I’m also getting this issue, tried deleting the Guild Wars 2 application file to reinstall but no luck, I’ve been playing on my pc but this is really lame since I can’t use my lappy
I’ve been reading the forums while leveling an alt keeping track of the progress and have noticed a huge split in the community on what style of play they came to this class expecting.
There appears to be a large split between those that chose this class to play as what other games would call a Beastmaster and those that came wishing to play as an Archer (there are other smaller divides but those could be satisfied with build variety)
It appears that there is space for these two entirely separate classes. This would be a huge change and require a lot of work (especially when creating a Beastmaster with pets that are responsive) but may allow for more defined/polished mechanics like what I’ve been experiencing playing a Guardian.
Of course separating Ranger into two classes would require people that already play Ranger to be able to select which of the divides they wish to “Convert” their existing character to (maybe with a trial period for each to give them an educated guess)
What is everyone else’s opinion on this?
Rangers were underpowered overall, there was one build that put them on level playing field which took the hit of this puppy update. The weapon was reworked because someone that doesn’t even play the class doesn’t find it fits their sense of fun, which seems a bit odd to say the least. If it was thought that the weapon wasn’t fun the weapon should have been made fun, not worse.
The bigger problem is that the other ranger weapons are just not viable enough for general situations, they are littered with bugs which stop them being viable (the shortbow still has its fair share of the problems, like rarely actually causing retreat on skill 3) , which is why most players were cornered into the 1 weapon. I’d much rather use a Longbow but the skills are boring and the damage is laughable when compared with all other classes other than Elementalist, the game really needs to be balanced for PVP since nearly all you ever see running are Thieves and Warriors, I actually had one sPVP game where everyone except me was a Thief, really highlights the balance.
If you’re lacking inspiration for how to make the archery of the Ranger class fun, look at other games like the Lord of the Rings series. Playing Legolas with Longbow and two Swords was fun.
One this that is currently wrong with the Ranger is that the class is in a kind of half way house in terms of classing, Beast Master class and Archer. I have seen quite a lot of people that want nothing to do with the pets (me included), they are poorly executed and in PVP are completely ignored.
Q: What’s the best way of getting rid of bots
A: Get rid of your players.
Wikipedia says that there are rangers who use Arctic Warfares – and everyone who has played CounterStrike knows how this ends. ^^
I’ve played many an hour of the well balanced e-sport series Counter Strike, do you mean we’re getting AWPs to make up for the rest of our weapons :P
It’s not just the people replying that are effected, I couldn’t even comment until today since I couldn’t sign into the forums because of a bug. A thread with this many views is more than just the people that have commented.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/11afkj/know_thy_enemy_which_profession_is_most_difficult/ pretty much summarizes it. Ranger not mentioned once as a challenge, they’re just too easy for people to kill.
This whole class needs a re-think, It Excels at nothing now and doesn’t live up to what was promised “Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows.” I also never wanted some buggy pet that you could barely influence and essentially is used as a bad excuse for nerfs (when a pvp player is actually bothered by a pet that’s when they are more than just a fly on the wall that can’t hit because it never keeps up). I’m re-rolling Guardian and Thief to see which one I like more. (most pvp players are thief at the moment, I wonder why…)
The sceptical side of me thinks this is just to combat bots since they choose the class because it is easy to sit 20 of them in one spot and just press all the skills when the cool down expires. (Not because it is OP…)
I found that my problem (Opera user) was fixed by first opening the page in IE (/me spits in the nearest gutter) and accepting the term and conditions (signifying a problem at their end as part of the code path as part of that process). I was then able to login within Opera
