I am fortunate that I have not been compromised, but I did want to let y’all know that support is being extra careful with email address changes now. My non-public email address has recently started receiving spam that includes virus attachments, so I am changing it all the places I use it, including GW2. I was a little frustrated with all the hoops I had to jump through to make that happen until I read this thread. The game serial number alone was not enough proof.

My sympathy to the folks that had their accounts compromised…

This is probably because they have nothing to do with the hacked accounts and are innocent!
Massages like:
Someone -hopefully you!- has requested to change the email address associated with your Guild Wars account.
is nothing. We are the ones to be blamed for buying the game and play it.
And of course support answers really fast if the company is to be blamed, but can’t support his players when they are needed. I hope that You did everything that You could and sleep well.

BTW Anet is not providing anything for people that had items stolen. Not even a pity gift. When I played EQ, if something like this happened they’d give people exp drinks or alternate advances- something to make up for it a little.

I am not saying Anet can restore what was taken- obviously not. But since they control certain things, like black lion trading and commendation etc- they could give every proven to be hacked account an I’m sorry token like- 1000 gems, or boosters kits, 500 commendations, and not just go find a heart person and buy cheap karma armor.

Anet is killing this game.

Absolutely I’m totally agreed, I don’t think Arena Net will be able to roll back every hacked account and if they still don’t annonce this very soon, players should be supported by eceiving some gems from Arena Net ….

They have already killed this game in my opinion. My account was hacked on November 23rd. Support have failed, their “coming soon restoration system” is coming as fast as they released the game. I still cant understand how is possible to fail with support, when this is the most important thing in a MMO… Too bad. I’ve played this game a lot, kinda liked it (it was not the best out there, but I always hoped that it’ll become the best), but that’s it. Playing a game where PvE is pure farm, PvP is kinda fail too, many annoying bugs (like the “invulnerable” mobs and obstructed) it is not worth my time. The game has great graphics, but the sad truth is that’s all it has.

I will remember this MMO with his puzzles and maybe characters personal storyline. Can’t think of anything else. Good luck to everyone no matter if you still play the game or not!

seems like your account is doing well and I hope that it’ll be safe, but you should think or read some posts before posting. First – the majority of hacked people are not some first time players using a 3rd party software/site and it is so obvious that I wonder why I have to type this. For example I have played computer games for years (since quake 2 and mortal kombat..) and in my most hardcore days I have played around 20 hours/day. Now I don’t have the time to do so, but I still had a good amount of hours played and I’m sure that the other wealthy players were dedicated to the game, etc. And second – You can believe in w/e reason you want we got hacked, but the sad truth is that people are being targeted. Otherwise the amount hacked will be much more (hackers are looking for wealthy players, they don’t need some 3rd class ppl with green stuff and 2 gold in their accounts). That said if most of the people are commanders/golden, etc (which is the main issue here) that is an indicator of people being targeted and not “infected with some fishy software”. Think about this a little and you’ll see whats going on even if you are not being hacked yourself.

This shouldn’t be an issue. I never logged in forums before and I still got hacked in-game so at least it wasn’t an issue for me. For people getting hacked multiple times – I suggest You to find yourself something else to do. I didn’t check my account since I logged in to see what is missing (didn’t even request a new password) and this is how I ended up in pandaland >.< check forums once or twice a day for an update and that’s it. You can’t do anything else… Most of the people out there got that it isn’t an issue on our side and the sad truth is that we can’t be compensated at the moment (maybe never) and they can’t prevent this from happening again… That’s why I quit playing (at least for now) and even if I get hacked again – they can’t take anything from me and I won’t need a compensation (which they can’t give me anyway).

P.S. The needed time for an issue like that is so letting down that I don’t have the words to describe it (or at least I can’t think of a censored way to do so ;P)

And those French GMs asked for serial code, RIGHT?

Gaile, all discussions about same email/password are useless since serial code isn’t stored nor typed in our PC or in some internet sites.

And no ‘the hacker went into all your rooms to check boxes and get your code’ please lol

Why not? Maybe he went into my room when I was asleep and did all this horrible things to my characters :X Maybe I should check if I am alright and if there isn’t anything else missing >.<

There was a saying once … “You get the game and play – It’s that easy” ^^ I want to add “You get our stuff back to keep us playing – It’s that easy”. Jokes aside, my ticket was transferred to a senior member of the guild wars support team and he said that there is no way to provide compensations or restorations, bla bla… In other words we are screwed, face it. I don’t know why the information here is “It may be possible or it may be not, I don’t know”, but in my opinion is just something to calm people down so they can face the facts easily. Of course I can’t be sure that this is the reason behind it so don’t trust what I’ve said.
We’ll see what happens with our issue, I won’t be playing the game till we got what we have lost and because we probably wont get anything seems like I’ll be forced to quit.

P.S. It is not a normal thing to not be able to assist people with more than 800 hours in-game. If You think about it, this is 8+ hours/day, which is like a normal work time. Such players make games better and challenging! If there are no dedicated players – games die really fast (lack of competition), but You already know that.

Good luck with the game! I hope that GW2 won’t end like “that game, created for years, just to have a good graphics” ^^ I hope that You’ll be able to make the game more challenging even if I am not playing it anymore.

First of all I want to say that we’re not hacked because of a “weak password”! If You want to believe this I wont argue, but in my experience this was never an issue. I have used a much weaker password and the same for years when I have played WoW (6 letters long, no capital letters, etc=really weak) and got hacked 0 times for years. In GW2 I use much stronger password and I am confident in that I am not the one to blame for being hacked. Well w/e the reason ALL MMOs that want to be on top and “the best out there” have system that will keep their players there and satisfied with the support. It is hilarious to not have a rollback system in a game, released in 2012. With that said even if You are too busy to have one (no comment) it is not true that You cannot do anything to help players with their issue. Most of the people have lost in-game items, which can be send via mail and that will make things almost the same as before (at least until there is a rollback system). I’m not talking about a compensation for the troubles and the time that we have lost, but they CAN restore some of the things, make issue not so big and keep up the players that have spent so much time in their game. Of course I can only make a suggestion such “send what we have lost” (which is possible and better than “Go look for a ‘Renown Heart’ NPCs to start again”).

I have played this game for 860+ hours, home world – Desolation, 6 characters and reason to be hacked seems to be my ‘Golden’ title. I haven’t lost things that can’t be restored (collectables, items and gold worth 400 or maybe close to 500 gold). I am still asking for a compensation of course and If there is not a normal response from their side I’ll quit for sure. This isn’t the only game out there and it will never be any better if this is what we get as ‘customers’.
