I don’t think adding a pet will solve the problem.
Let’s take #1 and #3 of your assumptions, and let’s assume that pets deal ~40% of our DPS. One of our pets dies during a dungeon, we’re down 20% DPS. Both of them die, we’re down 40% DPS, the same situation we are in at the moment with just one pet. You can switch, but the point is “pets would still die fairly easily,” and there would still be plenty of times where we would be down from our full DPS.
There’s also problems like pet damage balancing, trait balancing, and the fact that you have another pet to worry about and micro-manage. I don’t see it as a particularly easy thing to implement.
If you’re thinking, “Oh, maybe staying at 80% DPS sometimes might not be too bad, it’s a lot better than 60%,” they could just make the pet still attack while it’s down, but deal 1/2 of it’s original damage, with decreased abilites — an “easy” fix, IMO.
But that falls into the realm of actually improving pet features, not just adding more mediocrity. Quality over quantity.
I sometimes switch out Spring for Unguent, and Signet of the Wild for Sic’ em. Sigils of Strength sound really tempting and feels like it could be a noticable boost, I just don’t know many stacks of might I would get with ~50% crit rate.
Obviously your build is more offensive; I’d probably run Magi as well if I ever do start dungeoning, along with a shortbow.

Glad to see someone running similar traits as I am. I’ve only done WvW/minor PvE stuff as of yet, so I’ve been using GS & sword/horn with clerics, still getting ~45% crit rate with maintenance oils and fury. Considered using Magi’s but I figured I’d miss the power bonus.
Other differences being getting Martial Mastery for the -cooldown and Runes of the Water for boon duration and slight condition removal (since Evasive Purity is broken from what I hear?), forcing me to take Strength of Spirit for a minor bonus. I tried Runes of Altruism before that but the 6th effect seemed sort of useless since I already had almost 100% fury uptime.
The thing is, I feel like the BM traitline is almost useless for me now since the might stacks and Guard’s protection sort of makes up for the stat loss and the points are better spent elsewhere. Shout Mastery was the only trait really appealing to me, but with high +boon duration (45%) I figure you don’t really need it. That, and spamming Guard every 15 seconds instead of every 12 seems better DPS-wise (less, even, if you’re using sic’ em alongside it).
Just my view on things, I’ve only played for a month or so, take it with a grain of salt I suppose. First post.
