I should have clarified, I am speaking strictly in terms of increasing party DPS. After further thought I’m thinking you’re correct. I just wasn’t certain if easy fury application (which is notoriously lacking in many pugs) and AP made rev as good or better than warrior in unorganized groups.
For pugging fractals and dungeons, which would you say provides more valuable team buffs? I’m ,of course, assuming that there will be little to no other party buffs as you can never really expect them out of pug groups.
Seems like rev has replaced thief as Anet’s “nerf-only” class. And since at this point some bug fixes would almost constitute a buff…
Or at least fixed some of the bugs… but alas, we get all nerfs and no compensation.
Started playing full zerk rev with strength runes for pug dungeons/fractals. Just curious if there isn’t anyone else who can (or will) provide might and fury for the party if it is better to camp Glint for group buffs as much as possible or if it is still better overall to swap between Glint and Shiro as I’ve been doing.
I run both banners and fury signet with both lines. If I take berserker I would be replacing signet of rage with headbutt and at least the vast majority of my bursts would be arc divider instead of arcing slice (which gives fury unlike its primal counterpart). Dropping either banner for FGJ would unnecessarily kitten party dps unless there’s a second warrior. I guess the real question is do the modifiers in berserker make up for the loss of signet precision and easy fury access?
Which trait line is better in pug fractals where party fury isn’t a guarantee?
I’m sure ele is fine for solo pve, but it really shines in group play. Necro, however, with or without minions is pretty beast for solo pve while also being solid in group play thanks to the addition of reaper. For instance, when I was getting the hero points for reaper in the HoT zones I used a zerk D/wh with minions and facerolled just about every champ mob.
Just curious if HoT is a flat $50 or if that’s just the subtotal.
Judging by the poor use of Hundred Blades described in the OP, you were fighting inexperienced players. Personally, I’ve been using Gs/Hammer in unranked (I don’t queue for ranked unless I have at least a partial group) and have been tearing people up with it.
Granted, that is a WvW roaming build, but if you play it decently it works just fine for spvp (though it’s clearly not as effective in that particular mode as shoutbow).
@Ravezaar: I still have just under a 15k life force pool without points in SR. Granted, I can’t use deathshroud to facetank very much if the need arises, but this about as “full offense” as a terror build can be without using sinister or rampager stats. And I don’t typically hurt for LF during a fight; hit with corrupt boon if applicable, spite signet, go into DS, tainted shackles, doom, life blast, out of DS, scepter 3 to gain a good chunk of lifeforce.
And that’s not to mention that once someone leaves themself open for that combo they are all but guaranteed to go down (unless they are packing a ton of condi removal). Then I gain even more LF for stomping them =D
The food is pretty bad, but it’s less than 1G for a 250 stack of both which is why I’m using them (I’m really cheap). As far as the sigils, do you mean swap the placement of corruption and doom or to change them out for something different entirely?
I must admit, I was a bit apprehensive about dropping the gold for perplexity without being able to test them in Pvp first. However, seeing 2k+ confusion hits once I have full guard/corruption stacks is pretty nice (not to mention the extra condi coverage). The double stunbreaks is something I may have to give a try though.
Ty for the ranger advice btw. I haven’t had so much trouble fighting them with any other class. The lack of blocks/reflects is pretty painful against them.
Below is the build I’ve been using for WvW roaming. Seems to melt most opponents (except for rangers, both condi and power, which wreck me half the time and I can’t quite figure out how). Just wondering if there are any tweaks you guys would recommend to make it any better.

Totally agree that solo q needs to return. I’m completely sick of going solo and smashing against premade after premade. Find me the person that thinks long strings of blowout losing streaks are fun and you’ve got a solid argument to the contrary.
In my experience, though you can 1v1 with hambow, it’s more of a teamfight kind of build. Rabid S/S LB and celestial Axe/Sword LB (which is what I play most of the time) are really our good 1v1 builds. Zerk Axe/Shield LB also isn’t bad if you wanted to give that a try.
^Pretty much this.
Engineers have arguably the most difficult dps rotation to pull off in battle (assuming you’re running the meta build) and as such have quite a bit of room for error and dps loss. However, if played to perfection, engi actually has the 3rd highest personal dps (or so I’ve read), behind thief and elementalist.
It also really doesn’t help public opinion that many a would-be engineer has tried to make a pve build revolving around the flamethrower (which while cool, it’s awful for damage).
The answers you got from the people in map chat, I can almost guarantee they never tried playing an engie before making assumptions. And the only real “pitfall” is the difficulty of the dps rotation while still trying to dodge etc… (and perhaps carpal tunnel later in life due to all the keystrokes).
Probably should have mentioned detonating the flame blast (just kind of took it for granted).
So I am aware that the engineer meta build uses grenades, elixir gun and flamethrower. I was wondering, though, if it wouldn’t be too much of an overall dps loss (party and personal) to take thumper turret in place of e-gun. The blowback cancelling of acid bomb has always felt wonky as hell to me and half the time I fly back further than intended.
For a possible opener for bosses I was thinking of something like: napalm>flame blast>place thumper>overcharge thumper>blast thumper>rumble>grenade barrage>flame blast.
Let me know what you guys think about 15 stacks of party might with the turret vs 6 party might (I believe) from the meta rotation with the damage from acid bomb.
I might have to take you up on that Ivan.
No Pulse hit me up tonight for a P2 duo and I have to say he is an excellent teacher! An incredible amount of patience while I missed dodges on Lupicus/ failed on trash runs until I got it right. It took a little while to get through, but with only the dps of two people it demands that you learn all the tells and such until you do it well.
As luck would have it, tonight I got a member of [DD] in a pug group for CoE who asked me to come do an Arah run afterward. After admitting that I’m an Arah noob, they brought me along to teach me. So I got a second set of weapons for undead slaying and did a path. Apart from the very quick kick/slap(?) animations on Lupicus the run wasn’t too bad.
I like the duo idea after getting the hang of full group runs. Definitely a skill builder.
I’ll certainly be getting in touch with [Noob] at some point here soon.
Also, I’d like to thank Brazil for making his in-depth Lupicus guide video. It certainly helped to watch that before I even knew I’d be doing Arah tonight. Granted, Lupicus still destroyed me, but I was able to stay on my feet until I got bubbled in phase 3.
I probably should have mentioned that I’m NA and main a warrior. Thank you all for the responses, I’ll have to see about getting in contact with one of them.
So I’ve been looking into the requirements for various high-end dungeon guilds and invariably being able to perform well in Arah seems to be among them. Problem is, I quit trying to do Arah after a few 1.5+ hour long (single path) pug experiences.
I work late so I’m uncertain whether or not the people of the dungeon mentoring guild would even be awake to help when I’d be on. So I’d like to know whether you guys think it would be better to grit my teeth through some more pug groups or spend some time trying to solo the paths instead.
If it will help you decide at all, my biggest stumbling-blocks (in my opinion) are Alphard, trying to melee Lupicus and a decent portion of the trash runs.
Thank you in advance for any input.
Never had terribly good luck, but it doesn’t hurt to try. Kind of unbelievable that anyone would give such an expensive item away.
I too would be interested in joining if not for the 100% rep requirement. I’d certainly rep while in pvp of course. I’ll check this post again at a later date to see if you change your mind about it.
Hi, I’m a rank 45 S/S +Lb condi warrior (though I can play hambow/ axebow if needed). I’m not even sure if there is such a thing as a PvP guild, but I figure I may as well post and find out. I’m not necessarily looking to be part of the most pro team ever devised, just for a group of people who all know how to play (i.e. not double capping etc…) since the die-roll that is solo queue is starting to lose its fun.
Also, I can use TS (though not terribly adept with it) and my microphone is built into my laptop, activated upon pressing the 0 key. So while I can hear, I can’t speak and play at the same time which may or may not be an issue.
The 2 things you absolutely need to be wary of are longbow #5 (pin-down) and sword f1. The windup on pin-down is quite obvious now, so that’s not much of an issue. As for flurry, if you see the warrior leap at you (sword #2) dodge roll/run away/evade (I have no idea what tools rangers have to work with), because that leap is 9/10 just a setup for landing flurry (which is where the huge bleed spikes come from).
+1 for warriors getting pets. I want an army of hammers by my side. Let the QQ commence!
OP, I once had a run similar to yours. I’d posted something like “P1, experienced zerkers only” and got a group of people with 6k+ AP. So I was thinking it would be a nice smooth run for a pug. Long story short, the mes didn’t use portal and suicided into the boulders followed by the other 3 like lemmings. This went on for about 15 minutes and I gave up hope. I feel your pain.
I need to try some of these, especially the math check and “no fun allowed”. Absolute genius.

This is what I’ve been using recently. I’ve tried other trait setups for this build, but ended up preferring this to the ones that go 30 points in arms.
I feel I get quite a bit more mileage out of burst mastery than furious for adrenaline generation outside of the first few seconds of a fight. The 25 point trait in the defense tree is too good to pass up since you’d be going in 20 points for cleansing ire anyway and I went ahead and put another 5 there since I had no better options (and who doesn’t like reflecting another warrior’s pin-down or ranger’s knockback shot).
As for the 20 point trait in tactics (sweet revenge), most people would probably prefer something more practical like signet mastery. However, I personally was coming across so many instances where a guaranteed vengeance rally would come in a lot of handy that I went for that instead.
Also, for as defensive as the build looks (and is) it has some pretty hefty condi-damage spikes imo.
It may not be the best way to go about the build, but it works well for me and is something to try out at least.
Ah, I didn’t even think about elixir R. I would imagine that’s what it had to be since they could only do it once (given its cooldown).
I fought a couple of Engineers today in WvW, and I would down them and they would just get back up as if they had rallied. Problem is, there was nothing around to rally off of.
I’ve played Engi and have no clue what they were doing or how I could stop it.
Hi there! I just made a thief a few weeks ago and liked it so much in spvp that I started leveling him up to go to WvW with it.
This is what I’ve come up with for a prospective roaming set up. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fYAQNAoaVlUmiP3ey5E95Ey2jKUnIKuHOlR1UdFiKA-j0yAYLBRyCAhBiKAm8KiGbfoIasKJMVpStyMQejlV7OCkUAvMBA-w
I know the food is cheap, but I’m not trying to spend too terribly much on food. Any advice on what I can refine (mainly as far as gear goes) would be much appreciated.
One thing to note: I’ve read the guide by Mist, but runes of divinity and traveler runes are too expensive for me to want to buy.
I’m a relatively new player (just over a month I think), looking for a large guild that does not require voice comms and does dungeon runs/ fractals/ world bosses perhaps. Not that PvE necessarily has to be the main focus of the guild of course.
A bit about my main and myself:
I main an engineer (full exotic and all but 2 items including trinkets are zerker) traited 30/0/0/30/10 (not an HgH build, but it does stack a ton of might). I have some dungeon experience: all AC paths, CoF p1, Arah p1, a bit of fractal experience and am looking to broaden my horizons with players more experienced with this game than myself.
This is far from being the first MMO I’ve played, but ever since I started I can’t seem to play anything else. I’m typically on 4 nights a week between 11ish pm to 5-7am CDT (since I work nights), with the exception of Fridays, during which I’m usually on most of the day.
If you have any questions I may not have answered about my main, current level of playing skill, or myself as an individual feel free to ask here or whisper in game if I’m online.
