Hey folks,

Now that the HOT is out of the bag, we’re able to update this thread with more details. With the introduction of the new account based mastery system for end-game progression and growth in PvE, we’ll also be re-evaluating our other systems of character progression to ensure they match our over-all pillars and goals for Gw2.

In doing so: we’re going to be removing the current trait unlocking system currently on live and replacing it with a more simplified system that supports where skills-traits-specializations are going in the future. We’ll go into more details between now and the release of HOT on how skills, traits, and specializations will work in the new Gw2 world.

Thank you for all your passionate feedback on this topic – it not only helped our dev team lead to this decision, but has played a large role in helping us define how to build our exciting new account based mastery system for end-game progression in PvE as well.

It remains to be seen, what the current system will be replaced with. I am not celebrating yet.

The current system was hailed as being this new, awesome, and improved thing. I feel quite the opposite, personally. So, I have become a skeptic and reserve judgment . We have been told the current system will be removed but what will we end up with?

Very welcome news that the current system is going away but as I do not know what this truly means I am still not excited. It would be very easy to get excited about this, but I have disliked everything that has been done since the trait change except the free and immediate respec. Experience has made me quite wary.

My thoughts exactly. So the current system is going away, +1 for that. However, what exactly is replacing it? And not in generic dev speak/PR, but in actual, precise details. I hope they provide meaningful details soon enough. Also, what is the ETA for the change?

This current trait system and the current dailies system are the two main reasons that I am not exited in the least about the expansion. Until they provide specifics about their systems in the expansion, as well as for the changes they will do to the current trait system, then I will continue staying away from GW2. And that’s a bloody shame because I otherwise enjoy this game a lot (or used to anyway)

PvE-only players: i hate this system
all around players: there is nothing to hate

you see the problem here?

I do both PvE and sPvP and I hate this change because it completely changes the philosophy behind dailies. So try again?

Having seen the way they “updated” the dailies system, I have completely lost hope that any change they might do to the trait system would be any less kittened. It really does seem they completely misunderstood what some people have asked in relation to specific GW1 systems and they are kittenting all over systems that exist in GW2 that are actually working fine for the most part.

I really am lost for words at this point.

It takes about 10-15 minutes to get the three achievements needed for the daily, and it gives a free 10 AP, instead of grinding 10 achievements to get the 10 daily AP. Are we seriously kittening about simplified dailies that take less time?

They don’t take less time. That’s the point. Every minute of doing them is a minute playing content i wouldn’t have been doing otherwise, while the previous dailies (excluding WvW/PvP specific) all could have been done doing things that I wanted. And i still got more AP on monthly basis than i will get now.

So you’re saying it takes more time to do 3 achievements compared to 5? You’re also saying it takes more time to do achievement that now require you to do less than they used to such as gathered?

The time that it takes out of your personal time is a matter of personal preference and does not dispute that doing the daily now takes less time and even less time to get 10 AP than before.

It’s 20-30 minutes dedicated to doing stuff i don’t care about, as compared to doing 0 minutes doing stuff i don’t care about. See the difference?

Pretty much this. The new system sucks purely because of this change.

So apparently it is only 5 people posting here, so I thought I will also add my voice (3rd time in 7 months) that this change sucks and it is the main reason I mostly lost interest in this game since I like to and I always do have plenty of alts in MMOs.

Also, +1 to the dev challenge, but I am not holding much hope about it either.

How are half of these games considered MMOs? Isn’t one of the pilars of MMOs an always online consistent world? How do card games and MOBAs have that? Or is any multiplayer game an MMO nowadays?

On GW2 in specific, they will have more income once they restore some of the goodwill they lost from some of their customers.

For people wondering about it, I am pretty sure that the reason the new gempage was changed so quickly has nothing to do with forum feedback (or external reviews), but simply with finances. ANet released their seasonal event with new items and they were probably expecting some increase in revenue. However, with the new gempage I can speculate that there was significantly lower exchange of gems, leading to lower prices in gold, while on the other hand numerous people have also refrained from buying gems with cash exactly because of the change. In other words, there was probably a significant drop of income and the only thing to correlate it to was this new gem trading system.

Based on that, even if it gets to 10000 pages this thread won’t do anything unless ANet can see a significant reduction in their income that can be directly and unquestionably linked to the new trait system. Otherwise, good luck to all of us talking to a wall.

Am I reading this right or does this mean that they won’t change/fix the system with the September patch?

Is there a reason for having all 6 sigils being of the same kind? Wasn’t it advertised that this patch was going to bring more diversity in the builds? How does that fit into it?

I want back the bigger selection from before the 15th April where I could get the dailies done by doing the activities I liked doing. Some days I was doing only PvE, others only sPvP and others a bit of both- in most occasions the dailies were completed without even bothering to hunt them down, I was simply enjoying the game. Now, not so more and I do not like it.

As a new player with only under-30 characters that liked pre-15th April all aspects of the game (PvE, sPvP and WvW) I find the new system ridiculous for all the reasons already mentioned. If you want to put rewards on special actions (map completion, events etc) that improve character customisation, then do it for secondary systems like gear and keep the primary ones as they were before.
