Suggestion: Writ of Tyria Mastery Vendor

I was thinking about how many tomes of knowledge my character gets when I pvp and while I am using them to level my revenant it seems like they would be a good currency to use for Writs of Tyria Mastery. You would have to trade several tomes of knowledge in for one writ but in the end I think it would help bring people back to playing the game as well as provide a service for the current players.

The vendor would sell multiple types of writs, each providing more mastery experience but costing more tomes to purchase. I think there should be a gold fee or spirit shard fee as well so that a player can’t just trade in a large stack of tomes and progress through an entire mastery tree with just tomes of knowledge.

This. But only for Central Tyria :P

That’s the idea I was going for there is already plenty of 80 content for Maguma Mastery where I feel if they introduce it for just Central Tyria then it would be a lot better implemented. It also sets up a way for them to integrate the maguma later when a new set of mastery levels come out with a later expansion.

The Sons of Merlin is an old guild in the beginning stages of rebuilding. We have a guild bank and are working on finding the right guild hall. We are looking for players of all types to join. Our focus is on mainly PvE, however I would like like to also get PvP teams started for those who have an interest.
If you are interested in joining please pm/mail me (Promithes.1368) in game or signup on our guild site http://thesonsofmerlin.enjin.com/
We also use Discord as our VoIP for raids and events. It is not required but it is very helpful.

We are also looking for people who want to take up a leadership role

Well on the other hand I did manage to max Armorsmithing and get to a rough 50% world completion before I dinged 80. Shame of the personal quest though. Good side is that now I can do ’em all without being forced to do a few tasks in between personal story quests.

Can’t wait to start doing a different chain on my alts. At least I know what to avoid, now.

That’s the spirit, I love GW too much to be mad at it, even over something “serious” like this. I put serious in quotes because it’s serious to the game, but not SERIOUS serious.

As a new customer to Arena Net I had heard that it was unlike any other company when it comes to MMOs. I can say that is true but not in a good way. As someone earlier in the thread mention when the patch does come out we have to make a choice. Do the event that lasts 3 days or do the story we have been missing for month. I realize that hindsight is 20/20 but I really don’t think they thought this through in the beginning. The issue isn’t the bug itself as an avid mmo player and general gamer I get that there will be bugs but when the fix is pushed back to a major patch because of an audio update that effects all story quests that is what I find unacceptable.

Quest "A light in the darkness" Still bugs

One failsafe you might want to consider is a time-out type check on quest steps. For example, when a quest initializes or progresses to a new step start/reset a timer (set to 10 minutes maybe?) If everything goes smoothly the timer will get reset each time the quest is advanced by the player.

If the timer expires, run a check to ensure that the current step is not yet completed and confirm that any mob that has to be killed is actually present in the instance AND that there is a path from the player to the mob. This will (should) catch situations such as “mob failed to spawn”, “mob spawned (or was knocked) under the floor, through a wall, in a tree, or whatever and isn’t targetable by the player”, “mob is dead but somehow the death didn’t trigger the this_mob_is_dead counter”, etc. If the player simply went to answer the phone and make a pot of coffee, the quest can sit there waiting for him/her to return. But if there’s something missing or if there’s a target the player has to kill that isn’t reachable or there, you can either despawn/respawn it or artificially mark it as “completed” (and auto-file a bug report to yourselves that it happened and bears looking at).

I can assure you that mobs can get into very problematic locations since I encountered this issue earlier this week when doing the mid-70’s quest in the Straits of Devastation where you accompany the Largos into the under water lost temple of the forgotten god (can’t remember the exact quest title). In the first “room” you enter ther is a group of mobs you must kill and in my case one of them spawned or somehow got knocked under the floor. I killed the rest but the quest wouldn’t progress. As I swam around I happened to notice the tip of a fin protruding from the floor but I couldn’t target the mob. The only thing I was able to do was swim close to it, switch to my spear, and use vortex. It never attacked me back, and I was never able to target it, but miraculously it also didn’t become invulnerable so I was eventually (with a lot of patient waiting on vortex’s cooldown) able to kill it even though it didn’t get pulled out of the floor and into view. As to how it got there in the first place, your guess is as good as mine but I never use Illusion of Drowning to sink a mob (because exactly this sort of thing can happen and even if it doesn’t 99% of the time the mob will become invulnerable anyway, even in open water) so it wasn’t me. Maybe the Largos has that skill and used it? Maybe the mob spawned there initially? Maybe a previous use of vortex moved it there while I was fighting other mobs?

Whatever the case, a pathing check on that mob would have picked up the problem, whereas if I hadn’t happened to notice that little sliver of fin in the floor, I would have been completely stuck on that quest with no way to advance it other than to restart it. (I’ve done that same quest without any hitch on 3 other characters so it’s not a consistent bug)

Problem Number 1 with this solution: not feasible, in an mmo you would have to put that tool in every instanced story quest with each different quest needing different specifications. So in short its not that simple and would be a kitten to download

It’s not a matter of priorities, it’s just bad timing, really. A general audio fix went in about 2 hours before the bug was reported here and I fixed it, and unfortunately, the audio fix left the story step incompatible with Live. In the upcoming update they’ll be adding the audio fix, so the fixed story step will also go in.

sorry for my earlier rant jeff, it was not aimed at you nor can I blame you for this turn of events, and I do appreciate you being upfront about it. I am glad you went to fix it and hope that my story missions in the future will not be bugged, but if they are we know who will fix em asap for us…. Jeffrey Vaughn, King of Coding

As someone who played WoW for half a decade, played SWTOR and EVE, I have to say I am a little disappointed that such a crucial quest is bugged. In SWTOR when a story mission was bugged that became the dev’s first priority because not only was the quality of play affected but the player’s companions were unable to be unlocked, so it meant that players could not progress. I understand that a fix will affect the whole game but when the developers say they have it in testing and are going to roll out next patch, that to me shows a lack of customer appreciation. My suggestion to ArenaNet is if you want players to be generally happy with your game, make them feel like you care about them. Closing threads after a rep gives an answer we won’t like is not the way to ensure client loyalty. I would rather have the game go down for a few hours every week and have the rest of the time run smoothly than hit bugs every 2-3 levels because ArenaNet doesn’t want to do scheduled maintenance each week, even small patches every two weeks for bug fixes is fine, i just dont understaand why you wouldnt fix bugs asap and wait for a large patch to implement them
