I went Guardian first. Because they had that healy-damage-utility kind of vibe. Also heavy armor is a bit of blessing while you learn this games combat.
But I found his utility so good that I kinda felt he was not living up to his potential when i played solo.
But what to pick next? I pretty much tried them all (altho I did want to try warrior, I didn’t want a different type of guardian).
Ele is very cool, and so was mesmer, but I had trouble not getting stomped in combat.
Ranger was ok. Combat was easy, damage was good, but it just wasn’t very furfilling. It didn’t feel like there was much to do as a ranger.
Engineer grabbed my attention for quite a while. They could do anything you wanted. Be as simple or as complex as you’d dare. However I think mine wore a little thin because with effort they were a little too good solo (or it was very hit and miss, nothing inbetween).
Thief never really took off for me. I could see the damage potential, but just couldn’t stick it out to realise it. And I don’t naturally lean towards builds that would make him effective.
So after facerolling my ranger to lvl 52 I made the switch back to Mesmer (mostly just to get the daily ach xp bonuses). But he quickly grew on me. Now hes level 51 and well on track to be my main.
Once you learn combat and damage with the Mesmer, you can do almost everything with them.
However I’d give my left one for my copies to not die along with my target, but when I left combat.
thanks for the clarifications.
when you say sell the rare do you mean tp or vendor?
Request to add a “WHY” to this guide.
Helps newbs like me choose which means suits the end I’m after.
I’m kinda in the same boat. I’m lvl 80, but for me the problem is not just what to do, but knowing that that thing even exists.
I mean a game without quests makes it really hard to know what to do next. Since levelling, for the most part, is done, now what?
I’ve heard of fractals and dungeons, but never seen anyone lfg (am I looking in the wrong place?).
I’ve read a few things that say I could grind for gear, but none of them say if its worth it or what I’d use this better gear for.
So yea. I end up just doing dailies and exploring.
I’m also sitting at 1g and not sure how to grind more (effectively). Is getting 20s out of the trading post really THAT big a deal (not that I’ve ever managed to do that)?
Sorry man. Anyone who can’t spell “queue” after being shown it in-game is disallowed from talking about queues.
Do you remember when the game is started and the areas had a lot of player? I want it back!

Some events don’t even start if there isn’t enough players around?
No wonder the shatterer never shows up. Theres only 10-15 people in the zone at any one time and we always have the spance since its so freaking easy to defend/retake.
I’m level 50 (starting from Black Friday) and I’ve never seen an event bigger than the giant that attacks that charr town (and just aoe stomps the wall until ranged weapons kill him ever so slowly).
Kinda disappointed. And I’m playing on Dragonbrand, one of the fullest servers there was to chose from
I’m also on Vodaphone and I don’t think you probably can ping some of those servers directly.
Logged on around 3AM PST (10PM NZ) and still have ability lag issues.
Just tried again a couple laters, so 5AM PST (12AM NZ) and I have no issues at all. Everything is back to normal. So I’m seeing mostly a problem in the 7 PM-Midnight window (Midnight – 5AM PST).I’d give the ISP a thought but other online games appear to be functioning properly which still makes me think there’s an issue with the GW servers.
I’m basically exactly the same at this user. Even the same ISP. Crazy irritating as I can’t play before or after the period of lag…..
I only just got the game in the weekend special a few days ago, and I get bad lag (2-4 seconds) on weekday evenings.
I’m in New Zealand playing on Dragonbrand (US) server (the earliest possible US time I get on is 10pm, so most of the US will actually be later than that).
All weekend, mornings, and midday are all fine.
Speedtests for both local and to the US are near 100% at all times of day.
Is this the norm? Is GW2 effectively unplayable except for a few hours on the weekend for me (the only time I really have outside of work & family)?
