Go to the mesmer forum, they hold the belief that they have the most complicated class in gaming history.

sweet we will meet u there, as u must be the most skilled player in the game with that kind of attitude, u sure don’t mind rolling one then.

It’s a shame, I’m just not good enough for mesmers, otherwise I would indeed meet you there.

The reason of hate on thieves

I think it has to do with the impression stealth based classes leave on others in every game that has them.

There’s just something about being attacked when you don’t see your opponent that rubs people the wrong way. I love playing thief/assassin/rogue classes, and the complaints are always the same – and I’m beginning to think it’s really just psychological.

You even said it yourself OP, most stealth +backstab thieves won’t a match. At best they’ll annoy a few people, get a few kills, but for the most part be really ineffective as every contested area is usually blanketed with AoE almost the entire time.

And one reason I think people hate them even more is due to the nature of travel in WvWvW. So much running. If you get killed while running from one place to catch up to the group or defend a point, it really is aggravating to be killed from stealth and have to do it over. If you’re a stealth + BS thief, why would you go with the zerg? Of course you’re going to roam and it’ll just kitten people off, but you do it because there’s no use for you anywhere else.

Finally, my build, explained.

I have no horse in this race, and I really don’t post much, but I understand where Arganthium is coming from. We’ll have to liken this to real life to make sense:

Arganthium’s build is based on maths and while math can be strictly correct in its theory, it’s practical application can greatly vary when human variables are added.

See, Jumper is a high level GW2 pvper. So for examples sake, let’s take Michael Jordan. In terms of math, a standard jumpshot will be more accurate and effective than a fade-away jumpshot. Because to successfully sink a fade-away you have to calculate your mass vs the balls mass while you travel in opposite directions with an alternating trajectory . . . etc.

The error being made here on both ends; is that players see Jumper’s build and his success and think that the build is inherently good because Jumper is good so they believe that they can reproduce that playstyle themselves (and hey, some might).

Whereas Arganthium sees his build as mathematically good, but the game is not played on paper, and players discount the build because it doesn’t have a “pro” championing it despite that this build might actually be better for them as they don’t have jumper’s skills.

I personally have not tried either build, but I’m sure both are feasible with a person who knows what they’re doing behind them.

If games could be played by maths, then they wouldn’t need players/athletes. No offense Arganthium.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that Sylvari cultural armors are quite modestly sized and they bumped up the ratio when modeling them forgetting that sylvari might wear other styles.

Why's there legendaries on the TP?

Let me preface this by saying I don’t have a legendary weapon and don’t know yet if I’m going to try for one (esp as a thief – ANET really love their greatswords, but daggers are dinky in this game).

However, I personally don’t see an issue with them being available on the TP, if someone wants to spend $1000-$2000 to buy a skin, meh. Doesn’t affect my appreciation of how it would look if I had the weapon. I think the people upset about that are the ones who feel that it attaches a stigma to the item making it unknown if that person crafted it or bought it.

Now, as far as legendaries go, I always hate the idea that you craft them. You spend all this time in game striving to kill bad things, but you’re actually a legendary crafter? I don’t want to be a legendary crafter, I want to be a legendary insert class here. I would much rather earn upgrade tokens as I complete advanced parts of the game making the weapon I’m wielding known through deeds. It’s appearance changes as you upgrade it and when it’s done you have a legendary! I wouldn’t mind something like this taking 2-3 months to accomplish (possibly gated by dailies) but it makes a ton more sense than “go gather materials and through them into the forge! Yay legendary item has been created!”

Nothing is legendary until it’s accomplished something. This is nicely showcased in The Hobbit

“That day he [Elrond] looked at the swords they had brought from the trolls’ lair, and he said: “These are not troll-make. They are old swords, very old swords of the High Elves of the West, my kin. They were made in Gondolin for the Goblin-wars. They must have come from a dragon’s hoard or goblin plunder, for dragons and goblins destroyed that city many ages ago. This, Thorin, the runes name Orcrist, the Goblin-cleaver in the ancient tongue of Gondolin; it was a famous blade. This Gandalf, was Glamdring, Foehammer that the king of Gondolin once wore. Keep them well!”

Orcrist, The Goblin Cleaver was not forged as anything other than a sword, it got it’s name from cleaving a ton of goblins.

So a sword like Twilight could be earned by doing special quests that only occur during the Twilight hours in-game – your sword would slowly morph into Twilight the more you completed said quests (or questlines).

Anyway, that’s just me dreaming of how legendaries should be handled by some game at some point.

Thank you for Orr

I have to say, when I first went to Orr it was like hitting a wall in comparison to the rest of the game. But I really enjoy it now, the feeling that I do have to fight and claw for every inch just to get to the next area (even though I have all the WP’s now) was reminiscent of Demon’s/Dark Souls.

It really gives the zone a certain feeling of dread and hard won fights. Yes the mobs are trash, but just the idea that you don’t get anywhere in Orr unless you really want to push through – that immerses me in the content. How would my character feel traversing this hellscape? Much like I do right now. That connects me to the game and my character quite a bit.

Even if ANET change Orr, they should really think about adding a zone which is truly about slogging through. Make it so people say, “wtf? You’re really gonna quest there?” Maybe it shouldn’t have DE or Heart, just mobs and maybe “special” areas which allow you to craft nifty skins.
