Would you like to see giant experiments-gone-wrong, causing mayhem in Rata Sum? Well, I certainly would. Simply put, 2-4 times a month there should be rare events within or around the walls of the major cities that drop items that are of the quality above the average event boss drop. This could range from anything like a giant magical/electrical experiment that escaped one of the labs to a massive centaur assault on Divinity’s Reach; replete with siege weapons and a warlord.

The only difficulty with making this happen would be the lvl of these rare events. Solutions could include an algorithm that calculated the average lvl of those present at the time of the event. It could also be the highest lvl, but whatever the event it should be avoidable by the lower lvls. In the case of the massive centaur attack, the army that advances could have a mix of lvls with the boss being lvl 80 and the cannon fodder being lvl 10 or so.

This all would require that the events be within peak time because if there aren’t enough people in the area the rare events might wreak too much havoc within the big cities; NPCs dead everywhere, walls destroyed etc. You could also program town criers to appear in the smaller villages and areas letting everyone know these events are happening.

Other rare event ideas could include but aren’t limited to the following:
— Ghost rage manifests into a giant creature and appears inside the Black Citadel
— Frost worm flavored plague gets into Hoelbrak and the players have to go kill a bunch of the local beast to get the ingredients necessary for the cure. This angers the spirit beast(s) and they come attack the city.
— Portals from the dream start to appear all over the Grove; nasty creatures begin to pour out. Eventually the cause of these portals arrives and must be battled to keep the portals from persisting.

In summation the only thing that I could see keeping this from being a reality-in-game is the difficulty with the lvl differences. But that would be the challenge for the developers.
