I’d disagree that the story of GW2 says the humans were the bad guys. It’s merely that, like with every war, either side is considered bad by the opposite side. I mean it would make no sense for the Charr to kill humans because they thought that they were too good. Not to mention, killing the far removed descendants of the people who took your homeland is starting a new crime. They did not directly harm you, but you directly harmed them. No matter what, you won’t come out with a clean slate for either team.
Well this is how I interpreted it while playing. Especially in those quests at Ebonhawke.
Which by the way was one of those places where my character acted completely different then I wanted her to act.
I didn’t feel like an epic hero, I felt like a betrayer to the human race.
Lore is very important to me.
It is also the reason why I stopped playing GW 2 after my character reached max lvl.
IMO the other races destroyed the lore. They threw in some random midgets, giants & flower people…
Charr would have been a great addition, if they’d have created a faction system. Why for god’s sake did they think an alliance with our mortal enemies would be a good idea? In GW 1 they give us a tragic storyline where our home gets destroyed by the charr… And in GW 2 I’m being told: “Well actually, you were the bad guys & the charr are the victims so gtfo”.
The personal storyline was a total joke… But I have to congratulate Arenanet for it. They are the first game developer who managed to make me completely hate my own character. I could have slapped my character for all the idiotic stuff she said all the time…
Playing a character you hate, is a complete fun-killer…
Well I think all this Charr stuff is just a matter of opinion.
Some people like it and some don’t!
I for myself hate all the other races than humans except the norn
(Only because they look like humans to me), I liked the “only human” thing in the first 3 games.
- Charr are enemies to me
- Asuras are just house elves to me
- Sylvari are …. well… uhm… plants I guess?
AH now I get this Trahearne thing! Plants vs Zombies easteregg *I see what you did there Anet ;-) *
And because of that I don’t really care anymore about the lore and just enjoy the awsome gameplay.
At least there aren’t 13 different races including panda bears
Oh please not…
No more races… 5 are already too much in my opinion.
I really liked the “only human, different cultures”-Thing in GW1
I don’t want this game to end like WOW with 13 different races…
Just expand the existing ones in future updates…
Well be happy about it!
At least you guys enjoyed 1-50
My personal story started to be a disappointment as soon as I saw queen Jennah the first time. I don’t mind a linear storyline, as long as I am a unimportant bystander all along OR I can chose which characters my PC likes and which not.
So when I saw my character liking Queen Jennah’s boots (She is the character I hate the most in this game), I just stopped caring about the story at all and abused the “Skip Dialogue” button.
It may be the personal story of my character, but when you disagree with your character, the story is just annoying.
I’d rather be Joffrey from “Game of Thrones” than my Guild Wars 2 Character. lol
As for the “pure arrogance and narcissism”, I don’t really see it like that. I think that’s just the characters having fun. I know I say stuff like that all the time and I don’t mean it.
Well but thats the problem. Not all people (including me) like this continuous self-praising, even if it’s meant for fun. Some people prefer to remain modestly.
And THAT is the problem with the personal storyline.. For some people, the personality created by Anet is just fine (For you for example), but for some it’s just the complete opposite of the personality they’d like to have.
I guess RP would be a solution for this, but I don’t really like RP. All my friends wouldn’t play along and the possibilities with emotes and stuff are IN MY OPINION just too few.
Thats why I prefer to think for my character and develop a personality with my mind.
Well that works fine until my character says something like: “I’m so fabulous I could be the prince of Belair!” or starts to kiss Jennah’s boots, and begging her to marry me.
Hey Guys
I am a little disappointed with my personal storyline and my character herself.
My character is a human Mesmer and I like her appearance and the gameplay.
But what I really hate about her, is her personality.
Here is my point: Even though we have a lot of decisions during the storyline itself, every single one seems to lead to the same result for my character.
Most of all: My character seems to admire queen Jennah and Logan, two characters I can’t stand… Jennah is some kind of a social activist which you are forced to love… and logan is a with love blinded coward.
The lack of ability, to chose my characters reactions really depresses me in this game and every move my character makes is a total different, than I would have made.
In most MMOs your Character does’t say anything. He/She just accepts quests and finishes them. You don’t really know how he/she thinks, what gives you the ability to make your own personality.
But in Guild Wars 2 its like: This is how your character thinks! Deal with it!
Wors of all is are the things the character says when completing an achievement: Pure arrogance and narcissism (This is just one more confirmation, how great I am -.-)
I stopped caring about my personal storyline and started to jump dialogues… It is well made and exciting, but I just can’t stand my character.
So enough of my whining and over to you guys! xD
What do you think about your storyline/character?
