I love WVW, but I truly hate having downed state in PVP.

There’s a reason why no other self-respecting PVP game has tried it, it’s a bad idea.

I hear this a lot, but don’t quite get it. What’s so wrong about the downed state? It makes ganking harder, but otherwise it seems to add another tactical layer to combat.

I’m sorry……. but you have no idea what you talking about. Please explain how it adds another layer of tactical combat since all you do is spam 1 or 2 buttons depending on your class. Not to mention some class’s downed abilities are way more stronger than others. Having the downed state in WvW also discourages small scale group pvp in WvW because having more people around you makes it harder for people to pick you off from a zerg since numerous people can just rez you in 2 seconds.

Well I for one hope for a RR system similar to DAoC, doesn’t have to include realm abilities that came with the RR system… just the system itself in place in GW2 for prestige purposes would be awesome! Not to mention how much it would help build community around the server as well so you’ll know who the WvW vets are.

And I agree with one of the poster above, the maps in WvW are so incredibly small compared to us who have played DAoC before. Taking keeps and towers in WvW is practially the norm in GW2 when compared to DAoC. In Daoc if you or the opponent takes a keep it was a big deal in epic standards, don’t get me started on Relic raids :p

JQ’s days numbered? I would not be too sure of that just yet. The even match this week should have given them a lease on life, since they will have gotten less bandwagoneers than they would have with a 400k-50k-50k result.

However, I am very happy with the position of SBI right now. We really have it golden: Tons of tier 1 matches, lately very competitive, too, but we never got hit by the bandwagon curse … neither the “joining” one, nor the “leaving” one. We might not have the omph to win against the high population server of the day, but the scores are getting closer (while our ques are staying low).

Oh and special props to IoJ: You really proved that you can fight in T1 during this week.

I 100% agree with this post. For a server that hasn’t caught the attention of all the bandwagoners, we’re doing pretty good. Even though we’re still 20k points behind atm we’re giving both JQ and IoJ a good fight on all 4 maps and it’s not because of superior numbers but because of how we communicate and work together as a cohesive group.

It is best for team build. I propose to fellow SBI thugs that you must /point and /laugh at all times to dead people. Jump on head too. Makes enemey hate you and your server. This is best for not allow to see them next to you when next big bandwagon server disolve.

Like JQ think they are really good. always 3rd place in tier 1 until HoD (dominate server) disolve and make JQ. Now JQ bandwagon.

HoD disolves and SBI still can’t take 1st! It’s precious to see the little ones try tho.

As far as dancing goes, I have yet to be danced upon. I’ve died many many times, but no one danced??? People are too classy these days…

That’s because all the bandwagoners who went to HoD transferred over to JQ after TA left. Haven’t you noticed any difference in you WvW pop? Because everyone else does.

Gonna have to chime in on this as well. I hate the down state Period I honestly don’t mind it in PvE that much, but in WvW and sPvP it is incredibly annoying (on either side.) If i’m dead, I should just stay dead and that’s that. In WvW there’s almost no point in picking out a target in a zerg because they’ll come back up in 2 seconds because they have 10 people around them to rez them back. At the very least modify the mechanics a little bit to make death more meaningful in WvW or just simply take it out of PvP and just leave it in the PvE world.

If you are going to “chime” in on a topic you should read the posts already in it….

Don’t know if anyone has reported this on these forums yet. But I have encountered dozens of mobs that do this annoying bug, especially in Orr. Basically what it does is when you get the mob to around 50%, the mob tries to flee to it’s original spawn point as if its a typical bugged mob, but then comes right back at you while it’s health is being regen’d at a fast pace then you have to kill it all over again.

I think a solution to the fix would be to make servers on their respective time zones. Oceanic, Asian, European, NA etc. And if you were from that time zone you can’t play on servers from another time zone. This was the same setup in DAoC, all the servers that you could play on here in the U.S. were all NA servers and during the evening hours the servers were barely half as busy as they were during the day time hours on any US time zone, so if you wanted to take a keep in RvR it would take alot more strategy and team work for you to succeed.

A good example of this would be one of my experiences from that game. I remember my guild waking up early (around 5-5:30 am in the morning.) to ninja a relic from one of the opposing factions. We succeeded because it was carefully planned out, but it still wasn’t that easy because the opposing faction managed to draw up enough forces to defend the keep.

FYI to the HoD who says that the population gap is completely ok:

At this very moment as I’m typing this sentence…….. about 40+ HoD is attacking DFB at the NE gate with only a little over a dozen of us SBI are defending it.

I don’t care what anyone says “The proof is in the pudding.” as far as the WvW numbers go. You don’t go from being 20k+ pts behind and having nearly no orbs through the entire weekend to having all 3 orbs and being ahead of SBI in points in a little over a day through just having “better communication”. Sorry HoD’ers, but not everyone is that dense.

Well I’m from SBI, logged in last night around 12 midnight and the SBI BL and EB queues were instant (don’t know about the other 2 maps.) While I was roaming around both maps, /map chat wasn’t as “chatty”. So yea, night capping definitely played a big part in HoD’s comeback.

I honestly think the leveling in WvW is quite alright actually. I leveled from 78-80 in a little over an hour a few days ago, all you really need is a well organized group that utilizes efficient startegies to attack and defend keeps. I mean, 41k xp for taking a keep is alot!!

Gonna have to drop in and say my thanks as well!! In terms of PvE I haven’t had this much fun since the launch of Vanilla WoW and of course I’m having such a ball in WvW!!!! I’ve been waiting for almost a decade for a game to come out with a system similar to DAoC’s RvR system and i’m so glad Anet chose to go this route! Awesome job guys and keep up the good work!

im rolling with an i7 OC’d to 4ghz, 12gb ram, and a radeon 7770 and i have no ‘invisible mobs’ – i can see them pretty far across most bridges. still getting 50 or so FPS on 1920×1080 in large battles.

could it be drivers?

Just DL’d a new nvidia driver less than 30 minutes ago, time to check and see

Orbs are seriously flawed and not thought out. They need to be removed.

No they don’t, their role in WvW is to add incentive to coordinate and conquer opposing forces and strongholds. Relics in DAoC are basically identical from the ground up in this regard and there were alot of times when an opposing realm would hold all the relics from the other 2 and yet they’d still lose it on occasion.

Which brings me to my main point, what I notice right now in WvW is that a majority of the time its just a mindless zergfest Take point A, leave it un-upgraded, un-defended then move on to point B. And if point A is under attack just leave it be and take point C instead. Is it safe to assume your server is the same way? If people would bother to put some thought into implementing some strategy and thought into WvW instead of running around like a bunch of AV zerglings, it really isn’t that difficult to win.

This is one of those things where the problem isn’t with the game, it’s with the players refusing to learn the mechanics of said game.

First off I just wanna say I’m having a ball in GW2, kudos to such a fun game! But I’m also wondering, is there any word on implementing a portion of the website for WvW stats? By this I mean something similar to what Dark age of Camelot did with the Camelot Herald (I’m pretty sure some of you know what that is, I understand some of the devs are old DAoC fans.) where either your own, or your guild’s or server’s WvW kills, keep captures etc are tallied on the website and compared to other players from other guilds and/or servers on a daily basis.

This happens to me as well, only thing is my FPS in WvW is fairly decent (around 20s-30s fps in large scale battles.) I’m guessing its a server side issue and has nothing to do with comp specs.
