Thanks for the shout out Vgomes! Awesome designs!
Read the other page and saw this …
I see a lot of folks mentioning what they’d like to see on sylvari, but that’s a different question than what they’d personally like for their own character.
So instead of doing a spread sheet of styles I would likely never use but think are awesome I decided to pick out the ones I WOULD use for my 2 Sylvari and I would have to really think about for abit before deciding to pick one …
So here they are!

3. You don’t NEED any of these skins.
Can we please stop with this horrible argument in every rng skin thread?
We as living beings only NEED a few things. food. water. shelter. Since we’re talking about a game, we’re obviously past the point of necessities and are participating for personal enjoyment. This is the most asinine comment on these forums and so frequently spouted!
It isn’t “NEED” as in a necessity to live. It means that the skin has no impact on gameplay what-so-ever. If random boxes were the only way to get ascended level weapons for example, that would be bull.
For a cosmetic item random chance is “fine” (it’d still be nice to get one for some goal/dungeon/hard jp though). Saying you don’t need the skin is not an asinine comment. You mention personal enjoyment like you haven’t enjoyed the game up until this point. People that must have this skin to enjoy the game, what did they do for the previous 8 months? How does not having this skin not let you enjoy the game (other than getting angry that you did not receive said skin)?
It is asinine to tell people that they don’t NEED something when in fact, no one NEEDS to play a game either.
For a purpose of personal pleasure, it is up to ones self to determine whether they need something to justify that desire.
If someone decides that they would like something to increase their personal enjoyment in the game, and going without it would hinder that enjoyment, although shallow it is their personal opinion and are allowed it.
My problem is with this frequent argument that portrays anyone who would like something nice as some spoiled child who doesn’t understand simple game mechanics, whom are scolded for their desires and are told they don’t NEED it.
Congratulations, you completely missed the point of gaming.
This
Plus- End game for MANY people = “time to make your character look as cool as you can!”. That’s what skins are really for … right? I mean, I’m not gonna give my level 2 Guardian a jade skin or a gem-store stem punk armor skin and then go through the trouble of transmuting it upward. Skins are seen as a money maker because that’s what MANY people want after they have gotten to the level cap … that’s exactly why we have trans crystals for level 80 stuff.
And no, don’t give me this crap about not HAVING to spend money on this. For many people time = money and having to GRIND out a few 1000 coffers or GRIND out the cash to buy a few 1000 coffers is a major bother. What’s so bad about giving everyone a guaranteed route to getting a ticket? Why do we have to gamble with real world MONEY if we wanna support the company and get a jade skin at the same time?
And someone made a great point … NO ONE would kitten about rng with the Jade tickets if they dropped as often as those darn fireworks or food items! Why would we? It would be easy to get them and move on with your life.
People love this game and suggest such great alternatives because they want fans to be happy AND to keep the company happy. Yet these people scold them because they’re against a practice that’s anti-player.
One from a Grawl in the Norn starter area, one from a vet at the SB event location.
You told us your story OP … let me share mine.
I got the ’Sooo Life LIKE!" achievement and went well over it. Heck, the first day I had over 300 something coffers (ya know, before the stealth nerf to coffers dropping). The first day of the event I got 7 rich coffers from the GEm Store because the released info made it sound like you were guaranteed a ticket (ya know, before they edited that part hours AFTER the event to make it clear that it was a RARE RICH coffer drop).
What do I have to show for this after all this time?
Maybe 10 Minis, 2 holo-wings (as mob drops, NOT coffers … I’m pretty sure they simply don’t drop from coffers) and a ton of candy/ food.
Never again will I spend money on RNG in this game. That rich coffer deal was a scam if only because they decided to change the wording AFTER the damage was done.
RNG worked out for you … that’s good … for YOU … right NOW. For the people willing to spend Real World MONEY on this? To both support the company/ game AND get something for their investment? Is it good practice to screw over loyal customers? Maybe in the short run … but something tells me that the reason they keep trying to find the “right way” to do RNG is because they know they’re walking a thin line with a time limit.
And the best part is, we see SO MANY good suggestions on how to fix RNG from the players! From “make opening 1000 coffers a achievement that gives you one ticket” to “have a consolation ticket for people who buy 5+ rich coffers and don’t get anything” to “make the rich coffers actually greatly favor the player so that they should realistically have a good chance of getting one or more skins from the gem coffers” to just flat out “allow people to buy these skins on the gem store”.
No, it’s not done well…
People grind it out because it’s boring and they want the reward so that they can go back to doing fun things.
Have us fight 10 different Dragon Based champions that are spread out around the world? THAT would be fun and interesting to do with friends and it’s not a task or chore. But doing this silly thing … 50 TIMES? THAT"S annoying and I want to get it done ASAP so that I can get my wings and be done with this chores.
Potential problem I see is players buy the skin they want right away. No problem except then they would come to the forums and complain that they don’t have anything else to do. So the tickets gives people something to shoot for. And it breaks the monotony of regular play during times of no event.
I don’t think many people are enjoying the ever-so-fun activity of opening/ farming coffers, hoping to finally get that ticket they have been praying for … on a month long time limit.
To me coffers aren’t a thing to “do”. You CAN’T “shoot for” a jade ticket in the way you strive to grind out these task they call “achievements”. You can open coffers … and open more coffers ….. and repeat and repeat until the end and still have nothing to show for it other than a bank full of candy and Minis.
So, you basically want a special skin that everyone would have?
For all the people who complain about the rarity of the item there are people that would complain just as much if everyone was running around with their rare skins.
People are saying that they want those who PAID for something to support the game to have something from it.
And who CARES if everyone has something? It’s the FoTM Effect … just like how EVERYONE had SAB skins. Now, where are these people? Oh,right … they mostly moved on to other looks and weapons. These things are temp trends and collectibles.
I kinda love this strange mentally. Screw over your paying fan-base so that others can feel THAT MUCH better about being lucky enough to open the right coffer at the right time to get a Jade Ticket. “Because when I see others with things I LIKE and own it makes me upset because I’m not a lil snowflake anymore.”
It would just be really nice if they would say that if you spend x amount of gems on rich coffers without getting a ticket, then they would go ahead and mail you a ticket out of courtesy. Maybe it would come with a note that says sorry about your luck, thank you for playing with us and good luck during the next event? That would get me to buy!
This this THIS! This is what I have been saying!
You buy 5 coffers? Didn’t get anything? Well, here’s a skin ticket, sorry!
What’s so hard about that? People spend their MONEY on this chance to get something the like and the have nothing to show for it just because they’re unlucky? And if people think “Bu bu but then they would sell fewer!” … when you make something truly good and appealing often time people want more than ONE. So they would come back for the chance for more or to just get another one.
And WHY are the Rich Coffer’s drop rate so kitten low!?!? If you’re gonna ram RNG into everything then atleast give the RNG people pay off aswing in the payer’s favor. i’m sure many more would buy Rich Coffers if the chances of getting a skin where 50/50 or something along those lines.
After buying 7 and getting nothing I’m simply never gonna spend a gem on RNG again. Heck, I’m brand new to MMOs so when I found out that "HEY! It’s common practice to have something called a “wardrobe system” in your MMO! Ya know, something that allows you to keep the same look regardless of gear or to change you looks on the fly without having to worry about gear skins being gone forever!" I decided to never by another lev-80 trans stone. Until they fix a system like that … I simply wont give them anything to change my look.
I think part of the way to fix this as far as the player base is concerned has actually been indirectly derived from other suggestions way back when. Instead of having this “lotto” for every form of new skin they place out, they could make them available another way (for example, new armor / weapon sets tied to new dungeons, and turn all dungeon tokens into a form of currency [no stack size] and make a currency window that displays all forms of currency at any given time). Then they could take holidays (such as halloween or wintersday) that are easily turned into a short-period event into the lotto chests, with (preferably) an option to just flat out buy a ticket with gems for a higher cost then the chests (whereas the lucky folks could buy chests and have the chance of getting the ticket cheaper) – would work better with cheaper than normal chests.
I have been yelling this HARD.
MY solution is pretty much this.
Sell RNG boxs for those whose gambling addiction you wanna exploit. Make them cheaper than the ticket which IS ALSO SOLD on the Gemstore (sayyy, ticket cost about as much kitten rich coffers now where kitten rich coffers cost less than they do now). Make it WORTH IT but having the Gem-store-boxes RNG heavily favor the player. Say 1 in 5 chance at a skin for each coffer. There, now people can either test their luck and get 0-5 tickets or not test the RNG gods and just buy the tickets.
Here’s another grand idea! Actually make GOOD, WELL designed skins a common thing on the Gemstore.
Got my first pair from a level 16 Vet waiting for SB. Was happy as could be cause I hate this RNG system they set up for this event.
Just got my 2nd from the Norn starter area (the Grawl cave event. THAT was even more of a shocker lol! I had a theory that they only drop from vets because that’s how I got mine and everyone else I asked had theirs from some kinda vet. But other claimed they got them from regs and now I see that that’s the case to)
lol thanks for the feedback. I was just trying to play the game the old fashion way. IE farm turn in candy for items.
But I guess it is kind of pointless if the target is impossible to achieve. Where it is better to just sell the candy and buy from the few who are lucky.
AFAIK I have yet to hear of them dropping from coffers. I and everyone I have talked to about this on chat had them drop from mobs, not coffers.
So yeah, if you’re gonna try to do anything it should be Grind some Gold ASAP and buy them for the 19-20g they are on the TP.
No telling how high or low that price will get over time. i really think some people are over-estimating how many people find the wings too-appealing-to-pass-up/ way better than the Shatter ones. That’s why I think the price has more than halved in these few days.
I have noticed a massive drop with random mobs …. mainly because I got tired of the comp holo-killing.
I use to be able to go down a line of just killing random mobs and most all would drop a coffer. Then the patch and suddenly that all changed.
Noticed with the holos to, when I was finishing up that “Kill 300 holos” TASK It wasn’t uncommon to simply not get a coffer from any and only 1 candy from each.
OKAY. I have been averaging about 50 coffers an hour just from simply running around on one of my lvl 80’s doing map completion. Since this event will last a month and it is only day THREE and it is more than possible to accumulate thousands of them, how can you people possibly think you would be getting tickets as frequently as you seem to think you are entitled to get them? If the drop rate was the way you wanted it to be then every player would have multiple tickets by the time this event is over. Therefore, the skins would not be rare OR special AT ALL. They were even nice enough to let us buy the wings once we’ve earned enough candy. WHY would you be buying ANY coffers on the TP to begin with? You get them from like 30% of your kills. It is so incredibly easy. I think it is actually extremely fun the go out and work on map completion and events for an hour (ya know, actually playing and enjoying the game) and then i get these extra coffers to open and have the chance of getting a ticket for a super cool skin. I haven’t gotten any tickets yet and i am extremely excited to keep playing and earning more coffers to hopefully get one. You should all relax and just play the game and enjoy the event and keep earning as many coffers as you can. My point is that this is fun if you can drop your sense of entitlement and stop acting like 5 year olds.
Thank you A-NET. Please don’t listen to these complaints. This event is awesome. The coffers are awesome. And the rare drop rate for the tickets is awesome. I love the suspense!
Excuse me but WHAT?
First off, these are celebration skins that have NO stat boost or bonuses so why should you or anyone care how many people have them? Who care’s if they’re rare? They look unique but you can’t even sell them (no gold can be gained or loss with it’s “rarity” ) and they’re special because they’re Dragon Themed so seeing more people with them wont change that.
Second, it’s not like EVERYONE having theme will just make it so that you’re forever doomed to see them all over the place. SAB skins use to be EVERYWHERE … but time moved on, new contain came and new shinys were the hotness. Now it’s not really common and in most cases I only see them when people are going for a “look”.
Also, I have to lol at the “they’re nice enough to let you buy the Wings with candy” part. That unbelievable number of candy they want you to gather is just amazing. People have done the math and yeah, the only “nice” thing they did was allow them to be A. random Over-World drops (Been trying but I can’t seem to see any logical pattern to how they’re dropped. At first i thought it was just from Vets cause that’s how I and 3 others got ours but now I’m hearing other stuff) and B. Trade-able so that someone can just buy them and be done with it.
And sense of entitlement? Most people would like to just buy them and be done with it, move on to worrying about other things and enjoy the game. That’s what I wanna do at least … buy the skins I want and support the game with money without having to worry about the RNG and TIME LIMIT for this event.
So, I farmed the coffers for like 5-6 hours and bought about 15 G worth of coffers (from TP), opened them all and… NOTHING! God, this is frustrating me! Why don’t they add them in the Style tab for like 800 gems? I will not buy more gems for this, less buying gems with cash for stupid RNG crap.
I played a game that was only RNG-based stuff and it was kitten ing me off. If GW2 keeps creating skins with RNG crap, I will simply stop caring about stupid skins. I didn’t get any Fractal weapon, wintersday, flame and frost and still no dragon bash skins. God, why can’t I just spend my gems for a 100% chance to get a skin? Is that too much to ask for?
Or why not put the skins in the Zaitify merchant for Jorbreakers (like the wings)? I still don’t understand…
Apparently it’s too much to ask that a person be able to simply pay for what they want because it lessens the chances of someone feeling like a special snowflake for their hard work (AKA RNG luck).
Really, I don’t see how any player could object to there being a simple 100% way to get skins. You can keep your RNG and take your chances with get 0-to-5 skin tickets in your RNG gem chest … or just pay a flat fee for one. There, everyone wins. Gamblers can Gamble for the chance to get 5 tickets or nothing and people who wan the skin can just have it.
And no, I wouldn’t like a wings-like buying system with candy. If those wings are any example of how this system would work they would make a unbelievable cost for it.
People, lets put some perspective on things. We’re just on the 2nd day of the event here, yes some of us (me included) opened a ton of coffers and found nothing… YET… there is still what?, 28 days for the event to end? Plenty of chances to get a ticket!
.
You don’t seem to see where people are getting annoy …
1 day or 2 days or 20, RNG is RNG and you could very well NEVER get this skin. Skins MANY people are clearly willing to spend money on.
It’s not good practice for players, it feeds on gambling and luck/ rng that drives people to buying coffers. I have gotten 7 rich coffers and I learned my lesson … never paying a gem for anything that’s not guaranteed again.
As for the people who PREFER RNG because they don’t want others running around with their special snowflake skin by buying them directly from the gemstore then they should really step back and think … if what you want is to be a snowflake then the BEST answer is to have more options. Heck, that’s half the reason I want MUCH more culture armor for Sylvari, to me my Sylvari only looks right with culture themed armor … and there are only 4 leaf armors in the game. Instead of wanting RNG armor or armor to cost as high as T3 I would just prefer there be a rainbow of cool and appealing designs that people could pick from.
I got mine from a vet … and everyone else I have heard from on the chat window had theirs drop reg to and not from a coffer.
There’s a coffer drop-rate page somewhere showing zero people getting the wings from coffers. Sooo yeah … I think it’s reg drop only.
I was over at the zergerer last knight and i was lagging so bad i died (couldn’t see where i was at…) So i’m not really seeing problems.
Maybe it has something to do with servers?
Either way, I think real dragons should be involved in this event.
Hey, been wonder something for sometime now … will we ever get rewards or achievements for bashing the ACTUAL world event dragons?
Thought it would be in good practice to give players who still go out and do the dragon events something in this event celebrating the bashing of Dragons. Like maybe a special Wing skin can drop or maybe the Jade tickets can drop … or maybe they can give STACKS of candy so that people trying to farm them can actually feel like they have a chance at reaching the unbelievable high number.
Would also be nice to be able to change some of the cosmetics of the wings. I mean, these are WINGS .. and the first in this game I would assume. Would be great if Dragons would drop things that could, say, speed up or slow down the wing animation or change the design or something.
IDK, I just think that the items in this event are too good to go to waste. There should be more player friendly ways to get the weapons and more options for the wings. For a lot of players cosmetics and color matching mean a LOT and having no say in the wing’s color kinda really limits what you can do design wise (same for the flower. But luckly for me that was a color my sylvari could get with. For these wings? I’m gonna have to make my Mesmer blue themed to make that match …).
Plus, it would really encourage people to do the dragon events. Fighting Jormag with 10 other people was a DRAG and it was simply because everyone is farming for the cool items this event about bashing dragons give you …
Yeaaah, from what I see it looks cheap and ugly :/
Female norns need more body options in general IMO.
This is one of my top “How could this NOT be a thing!?!?” suggestions.
It’s so hard to keep up with armor themes and color names … why can’t we just save color themes and apply them to our armor as we like?
Sucks even more for leaf armor given that any slight color change makes it look completely different.
You need to plead with the people who keep on buying the rng stuff in the store, because unfortunately Anet/NCsoft/Nexon make more money from them, then they would if there was no RNG. This is Nexon’s whole business model and they are one of the top grossing MMO publisher/developers out there.
Long term or short term? I’d like GW2 to be still there in a few years from now. I don’t see those boxes as a sustainable business model on the long term.
Exactly.
Their wording made it seem like they had took proper notice and decided to massively buff up the likely hood of you getting something with Rich Coffers but of the 7 I ordered I didn’t get a thing outside of those candy food buffs you can buy with candy.
So no, I am not giving another penny to RNG products. This really feels anti-customer. I mean, they know EXACTLY why people are buying the coffers … at the very least I think that is you buy 5+ coffers you should be given consolation ticket to get a skin if you don’t get one from opening the coffers. People often time want MORE than just one skin so I see nothing wrong with a guaranteed ticket per-five rich coffers or something.
Anyway, I have learned my lesson. I didn’t touch SS because those skins look ugly and creepy to me but these jade weapons and WINGS blinded me. But now I’m crushed with the realization that nothing really changed so yeah … I’m not paying for a gamble again. I expect that there are others like me who have ether stopped playing the gem-store-gamble already or are going to decide to stop in the future … so well there may be those who want to blow their paycheck on a RNG gamble I can’t help but think that you all would catch more flies with honey than … RNG.
ok, so just to be clear about the non-shattered wings … are they also in the Rich Coffers? And does their drop rate go up to common or some in the Rich Coffers?
I think that it’s a result of the SS boxes and just natural assumption based on them wanting money.
Basically, they wont make any money on these if you can’t BUY them on the GS right?
And the SS boxes could drop in the game to as well as being on the GS.
Sooo if they wanna make money on this one would assume that you can buy the coffers on the GS.
But I haven’t read everything there is to read on the topic of this Dragon event so hopefully someone else can take it from here.
@Kaimick.5109 and Leo G.4501
I have been to the kodan areas and I do not see that much diversity. And I know they have a lot of lore to them. It is because of the lore that I don’t see them become playable. They are polar bears… that is their thing, as Leo puts it. Making them black bears, brown bears or worse panda bears would break with their lore. Never mind that males and females look exactly the same.
It is not that I don’t like kodan, I think they are really cool and pretty awesome. Thats why I don’t want them to be playable, because they’d have to change some of the things that makes them awesome to achieve it.
As for their lore being broken by making them any color but “white”, on this page, in the beliefs section http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Wisdom_and_Power_of_the_Kodan they just say “The Bear” … not “The Polar Bear”. IDK, I just read that as " what you SEE is a race that looks like it’s exclusively one breed or ethnicity may not be the case when they get more exposure".
And even if they are Polar Bears … whats to stop them from dyeing their fur different colors? I don’t see the problem in that. And besides that, IIRC I saw a Kodan with black facial markings. So whats stopping them from having their own “markings pattern” selection like the Norn? Would LOVE to see them contrast the Norns by having spiritual and techy markings instead of the more primitive/ tribal Norn tats/ markings.
That’s just going over the “color” argument. For other body customization … be it Tengu or Kodan I’m 100% SURE they will need some loving in this area. There’s no Non-Playable race that has all the elements it needs to get the seal of approval and become playable as they stand currently in the world. So yeah, I’m sure that if they make the Kodan Playable they will add gender differences, cool facial options and stuff that can make your Kodan look like it wants to have a cola with you or look like it’s a raging momma bear.
Plus, Charr have no problem looking different yet still staying “Cat/ beast thing” and in some art spread it shows the Tengu having many different kind of bird heads and colors … not sure how this is an argument. Seems like a non-problem that will be addressed when/ if the Kodan become a PC-race.
YES, they have a gold-mine of a concept here for this race but it’s soo … limited.
Hairstyles they could use!
Cotton Bloom head for Afro
Thick Vines for dreads/ mid sized ones for curly or long non-dread styled hair
Grass for buzz cuts/ short hair
Pig-tails that are actually just two large blooming flowers
Bulbs that can be buns.
Thorn bush branches for Mohawks/ dreads again
Aloe Leaf hair
You can also take fruit as an example. Berries Bush Branches.
Same for the face. There are soo few options for the faces … it’s annoying. I want more planty asystematical faces that actually look interesting and more pretty faces that look human. I think that’s why people think all plant-players looks alike.
Same for the Armor.
Hopefully this and other races are just limited until and update/ expansion pack comes along. And hopefully that allows current toons to be re-done.
