I think you should try swapping your shield for warhorn.
But the point of using a shield is keeping aggro, a tank without shield is indeed only a deadweight for the group because the mobs will not go for you at all times.
With a shield you hold aggro, tried it many times and it works.
That’s what makes tanky build viable, the DPS don’t need to kite and can go all out!
I run a tanky shout build with axe + shield and it works pretty well.
You can actually really be a tank, in fact I can stand there let the mobs hit me and stay at full HP unless i fail to dodge a heavy damage attack. It helps the overall DPS because the mobs/boss will stay at one point hitting me while ignoring the other DPS. (Thats what shield does for you it helps you to keep aggro)
I see this guide as more of a loophole for D/D Eles who switch to staff in certain situations supportish even.
It might work but there are far superior staff builds out there.
Nothing against imo. Although i only kick players that wears MF gear if i’ve previously impose that condition for grouping. ig: “LF1M to Fractals Lv12345… No MF Gear!”
There are however some gear status that are worse than magic find gear as far as i see. For some classes using the Power/Precision/MF can be better than the Power/Vitality/Toughness that we often see in some chars! It all the depends on how that player rolls his char imho…
I take Power/Vitality/Toughness over anything with MF anyday!
It’s not a bad thing to be able to take a beating, I take those over full berserker glas anyday because there’s nothing cannon about them.
I’m actually rocking with the Ascalon set which provides PVT with berserker juwelry, works like a charm for me.
Still do good damage while being able to take a beating when kitten hits the fan and I have to help people up.
I have a balanced build with my ele and she doesn’t die, in fact she is even tankier than my warrior as she has a WAY better kit for surviving than my shout warrior.
I can even rezz people when kitten hit the fan with my mistform without taking any damage. So what if 100b does ridiculous damage? In order to do that you have to get close which is not the best idea in some encounters, this game is not all about damage but surviving to do so.
I can not count how many times my ele saved the day because she could take some hits.

All I can say is thank god Elona is now being removed from the Tier 1 match up. Vizunah has taken to hiding behind walls but Elona is simply the most passive server I have seen. This is meant to be a 3 way server fight where each server can bounce off another’s movements in order to capture or undercut another part of their enemies defences… With Elona being so passive against Vizunah this has been the most stagnant and boring matchup I have ever taken place in…
Desolation – I look forward to fighting to and I look forward to fighting a server that doesnt simply give up or form “alliances” with other servers in order for said server to win. (Lets hope you are neither of these)
You have to consider that we’re just one time zone while you guys have many. You have people from the US while we have only Germans on our side.
Since the holidays are over we’ve been playing passively because we just didn’t have nearly the manpower you guys had, you guys outnumbered us hard.
I think we’ve proven what happens when we have about the same manpower many times, not happening outside of holidays though.
I Use PVT Gear and Weapon with berserker jewels. If you are going full PTV you are wasting your Elementalist. I find myself good with what i am using right now.
I second that.
With that build you can actually take some hits while still not losing much on the offensive stats.
It’s nice being able to take some hits too when kitten hits the fan and you have to get a downy up instead of lying next to him when you try.
I also run PTV gear with berserker jewels, I rarely die even in the most terrible groups I’m usually the last person standing.
