GW2 "endgame" model is fine. Execution doesn't make sense tho, problem and solution.

3 – Solutions?
3a) World drops normalized for 80s
Why do I have to farm Orr if I want level 80 blue green and yellow drops?
For a level 80 the Orr drop should be the whole world drop.
This would spread people arround, make the whole world relevant to everybody.
And I don’t mean “give a high chance to as-good-as-orr-drops in the world”. I mean the same, otherwise people will logically gather in Orr to maximize effectiviness still.
This would also spread the income to less farm-minded people, making the economy a bit more socialized.
Use your own beautiful world ArenaNet. Make us use it efficiently.
3b) Cosmetic Threadmill
GW2 HAS a gear threadmill, and it’s quite short. you take some time to go full exotic, (I’m not still, and not with the best exotics, still, quite power-relevant) and it’s quite nice, it’s not too long, yet not so irrelevant, you have to work for it.
I have no problem how it is.
But the tokens grind, and karma and legendary is just outright insane. Either you can obtain cosmetic items easily or they are a inhuman task.
Making people ignore the cosmetic run of the game or simply go all-in.
The idea would be to make some Cosmetic Threadmill,
How about something between Exotic and Legendary?
Hor about Legendary Tiers?
Make it all cosmetic and nobody will complain it makes the game unfair, it will only let some less time-privileged people join that aspect of the game. Making it more vivid.
Think about it, if the Tier 5 Legendary used a huge quantity of material also used for T1 Legendary it could make some fun market dynamic wouldn’t it?
I think ANet is already with this mindset tho, making dungeon tokens a bit more accessible. So, that’s a good sign. Dungeons Sets are becoming a mid-tier cosmetic goal. Good.
TL;DR
World Drop needs to mach Orr efficiency
Cosmetic Items are either easy or irrelevant. Need more steps in that threadmill.
Well, that’s it, I hope I was concise enough to grab some attention.
And I’m sorry but english is not my first language, so… sorry about any miss steak.
Cheers.

1- About me
First off, let me introduce myself, I’m on my late 20s, I have a full time (and more) job, I have a personal relationship and I don’t neglect sports or my family.
Why the hell am I saying this?
Because it limits my playing time. A lot.
I know this because I was once single, didn’t do outside activities, was unemployed/student and didn’t care for family much. And that simply leaves a lot more time to gaming. (I miss that a bit sometimes :)
Which well, can change by a large margin your gaming experience.
Less time = Can’t spend much time grinding or farming otherwise there’s no time for the “fun” stuff. You burn yourself out.
If the game requires grinding or farming, it becomes a dull choir to people with little time..
Yet, with all those “impairments” I dedicate a huge ammount of time to GW2, hours a day even. And I must say I quite love this game.
2 – Endgame
I’ve played WoW on my more-than-free-time life and I was never into Raiding, even having the time, I just find it boring. So I’m quite glad that this is not the endgame model of GW2.
I like the idea that the endgame of GW2 is just.. playing this beautiful world, doing events, dungeons, because, well, it’s all really fun.
But the execution is poor.
2a) Making farming more difficult is not getting rid of it
ArenaNet several times took action that clearly intended farming to make farming more difficult, this doesn’t solve the problem, it simply puts the bar higher. Meaning the collective inteligence of the community will not stop farming. It will simply make the threshold to keep economically relevant (because of the global TP) higher. People will spend X + Y time farming or getting arround farming impairments, instead of X. People who only have X -1 time to give to farming and/or playing will be sub-par and will be irrelevant economically having trouble to enjoy several parts of the game.
This logic can be applied to Dungeons Tokens, Rare Drops, Farm Diminishg Returns… anything.
It is a bit effective on stopping inflation because you ostricize a part of the playerbase from the economy. You deal with the sympthom not the disease.
2b) The Downlevel System is not being well-used.
You got people farming DE in Orr. Why? Because it is fast, it’s efficient.
And also, it’s quite dull after 20 minutes.
Orr is a tiny, tiny map, with only one flavour: Undeadness.
I can’t believe ArenaNet came to conclusion that the best game drops for 80s would be concentrated on such a little area while GW2 is a huge and beautiful world.
Day before yesterday: I got my level 80 and went to explore Metrica Province with my lowbie friends (I want 100% completition and I enjoy playing the game all over)
We played for about 4 hours together, it was a blast.
DEs, Hearts, Jumping Puzzle
We were on mumble, we had fun.
I netted: 10 silver.
Yesterday I played 40 minutes in Orr. Waypointed there, it costed me 3+s (well, 7s netted the night before if you think about this WP cost).
I did about 5 DE, gathered, killed mobs. In 40 minutes I was bored out of my mind and quit the game
I netted: 1,5g (thanks to a rare salvage that dropped 3 ectos, unusual, but still…)
I am not fully exotic yet and I wanna be, and the only way to do it efficiently would be farm in Orr for days/couple of weeks or in the rest of the world for months.
I have not the will in me to farm in Orr for more than 2 hours on 2 days, I’m sorry, it’s really, really dull.
Yet, lingering my progress because I’m being “punished” by playing the other (much-more-fun) parts of the game makes me cringe.
@eCheese
We (TC) started this thread, not EB.
You allied with us, then got shafted, enjoy third place.
Next time fight for yourselves. May this lesson be learned. Don’t blame EB, they are at least competitive.
TC here,
Quite funny the general chat everyone mocking Maguuma for taking EB as Cannon Fodder while we conquest everything.
Very foolish.
As this video shows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xtiY9ufDd8
The thief can skip several huge parts of jumping puzzle with the speargun.
It’s not about damage, it’s about tagging mobs.
Warden is static once he attacks, and he takes too long to start attacking.
By then the DE mobs have already died.
And sword AoE suffers from a shortter AoE range than other classe while needing you to be in range, ranged AoE is far superior because you can reach bloats of mobs spread up with ease. ex: AoE on group, far away, AoE another group with another skill far away, switch to sword and AoE mobs near you. That would be efficient…
BTW, just want to point out that GS#3 is a instant AoE, not a persistant one, which also is worse for mob tagging, against, lets say lava AoE from the elementalist.
Good to hear.
To be fair, I rarely use Torch#5 myself, it just don’t fit too much my playstyle and when I used it, I felt it was a bit pointless. And hearing people complain about it en masse I added to the list.
Good to hear you find it useful, one less concern!
Let me start this by saying this will NOT be a rant post,
Nor it will be a nerf this or buff that post, it’s just a compendium of the general feeling I’m getting, aswell things perceived by the community.
Also, I’ll be fairly direct to the point and try and avoid any personal preferences regardless of my playstyle/build, etc..
And I’m not speaking for the class alone, many other classes might share the same problems, this is not a purely “Mesmer is the worst at this” thread. Some issues are reccuring to most classes even, this doesn’t mean they cannot improve.
Bad Things:
Mob Tag
- Mesmers are on the down slope of the Dinamic Events (and WvW for that matter) of mob tagging, this means that the AoE possibilities are rather limited, with fairly larget cooldowns (Staff #5) Slow Animations and tiny AoE (GS #3). Which ends up limiting the choices for running dynamic events (and WvW) if you want to tag and receive XP and loot from mobs. Ex: I like the GS / Scepter+Other option, but I feel that the Staff is a MUST if you want to be efficient in dynamic events with mob swarms, that means the difference from looting 15 mobs to 5 mobs. Is it doable? Yes, But takes much more effort and it’s much less forgiving then other specific classes. I cannot stress how my thief can spam a bit of Short Bow poison and loot all the mobs in the event, while my Mesmer has to sweat really hard so it can receive a fraction of the bounty. Worst thing is, I end up “having” to use the staff so I can have more fun in PvE, which goes agains free will of weapons choice.
Animation
- GS #1, GS#3 and other have cancellable (is this a word?) animations that can improve the DPS if you cancel it. This is unfun and ends up with a neurotic gameplay a là Dota. I’m NOT asking for a shorter animation, specially in GS#1 I’m just asking for the possibility of canceling to be removed. This hurts the gameplay fun.
Weapon Skills
- GS#3 is a bit of out of place, it does nice damage, but the animation, rooting and AoE range makes it unusable in any serious situation. That be PvE or PvP, any serious mesmer player is just not using this skill or canceling the animation, both options are terrible.
-Torch#5 is not worth it also, put it on par with other phantasms/skills and it’s just too weak. We do not necessarily need more DPS, so maybe it could act more like a utility phantasm or a defensive one.
Teleporting
- Mesmers teleport left and right, be with Staff#2, Blink, etc… and they more often than should end up underground and stuck. This happened with me on a tourney once, and I was useless for the rest of the match, broke my team.
Good Things:
- Illusions management are really fine. That’s a playstyle thing, not a broken system.
Yes, Clones replace Phantasms (sometimes, thanks to the changes made of priority on clone/phantsm summoning ANet made). You just have to be smart about when to use what. Or pick a different class.
- DPS is fine, it’s not huge… if you don’t spec for it. If you do, you become a bit glassy. That’s the game.
- Survival/Support, same as above.
Limbo Things:
- Moa Elite: Some people hate it, I don’t use it on my Mesmer, but I can see how it is not an overpowered ability, and I also can see why people hate it. A 10 secs daze is a unique silence on the game but it IS on par with most of the elites in the game that can change the pace of the battle. It’s just off the dazing curve of the game. (I personally think that it is a silly thing to bring to battle, but I’d give time to let people realize that by themselves.)
But overall, I love the Mesmer and if I had to pick one thing to change it would be the mob tagging issue, which could be solved with some AoE option, maybe an overhaul of GS#3 so it could kill two birds with a single stone. Stressing this point: Played other classes, the Mesmer is really hard to tag and profit as well as other classes in dynamic events, and on the course of 80 levels, it brings a gap.
And again, I wouldn’t touch the Mesmer much right now, the skills, traits, gameplay and etc make it a really fun and viable class, even with its drawbacks, but half of the fun is overcoming the drawbacks.
Hope this was useful. Pink power.
