I’m also jumping between 1 and 4k ping in-game while having normal connection outside of it.

I also seem to have High CPU usage from the client. Don’t know if higher than usual.
Been happening since the latest patch.

actions:
Launch client => wait a few seconds => update starts =>
at this point the download seems active (though the speed slows down rapidly).
The app’s icon at on the taskbar turns red (windows 10 so it indicates it’s faulted).
there are 3 files left for download.
I can log in successfully and the “play” button is enabled, but when I press it nothing happens.
If I check Autoplay, the countdown starts but remains at 1 and the game doesn’t launch.

funny thing is, If I’m fast enough, I can log in and press play before the client becomes faulted so I can still launch the game, but that’s not a proper way to keep playing.

I have tried:
-repair argument for the client.
re-install the client.
flushdns + registerdns
set the LAN to google’s IP.
I dont have AVG installed.

any help would be appreciated.

Grenades Gaming Mice

RexxarTheHunter.3926

Hi everyone,
I was just wondering -
I for one can’t properly use the grenades/mortar kit without my Razer Naga’s mouse keys, in order to properly move, aim, use the skill and evade when necessary.
This is more prevalent with the grenade kit’s auto attack when you must do so consistently and rapidly.

So my question is – how many of you found yourself having to buy a gaming mouse with mouse-bound keys so you would be able to use grenades properly?

[SPOILER] Justiciar Adrienne's bloodstone shield

in Living World

RexxarTheHunter.3926

In case someone else gets stuck on it, here’s how your break her shield:

1) get hit by the bloodstone – this will form a stream between you and the bloodstone, empty your endurence bar and low you down.
2) use the new Mastery skill – this will keep the stream active and remove the endurence denial and slow effect so you can move freely.
3) walk outside of the circle she forms in with her ring-shaped path when she spins around.
4) Get her to walk through the stream – once you hit her with it, it will deplete her shield down quite quickly. It’s a good strategy to follow her path a bit to keep her in the stream.

that’s how you remove her shield!
I got stuck on it for a bit so I thought I should post the solution here

How to PUG raids

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: RexxarTheHunter.3926

RexxarTheHunter.3926

Raids are fun, and challenging content!
however, they require a group of 10 people to coordinate actions with one another to complete. So you can’t do it on your own!
If you’re in a raiding guild, you’ve got that part covered and this guide isn’t for you!
If you’re not, then here’s what you need to do to get into raids:

1) know your class!
Each class has it’s pros and cons, and can contribute in different ways to each encounter.
So before you even worry about getting a group, you better know what you’re doing!
I’m not saying you have to go to Metabattle and copy a build from there (despite the fact that it works… very well),
but you need to know how you can contribute:
do you deal direct or condition damage?
do you provide boons? and if so, which ones? and how consistant are you at that?
do you provide buffs like Spotter or Empower Aliies?
do you have good Crowd Control skills if any?
Once you’ve figured out how you’ll fit into a group, set up a build, and figure out how to tweek it for different situations.
Raids is where the game stops being face-roll easy and start getting serious, so you better not go in blind.

2) know the encounter!
Each encounter in the raid is different, and has it’s own special mechanics.
Sometimes it’s about position yourself, sometimes it’s about knowing when you need to burst damage/CC.
There are dozens of guides for each wing and each specific boss which detail each mechanic and attack, and how to handle it very well.
So read a guide or two, watch a video of a kill to get the feeling of what you’re supposed to do.
Like in many things, knowing is half the battle.
Now, you may skip this part if you choose, but then you MUST notify the group of this during [section 5]

3) get geared up!
Now, I’m not saying to get ascended armor and weapons (though this helps for various reasons),
but your gear has to be exotic at bear minimum.
however kind or nice people you meet might be, nobody will want to go into a raid with a guy wearing rare gear knowingly.
you should also get ascended accessories, since those are very easy to come by.
which stats should you bring? those that amplify on your build from section 1.
you’re going for direct damage? take berserker.
want to deal some condition damage? Sinister or Viper’s are for you.
Want to be a healer? go for Magi or Zealot.

Importent note: since some of the bosses usually focus on the player with the most toughness in the group,
you should avoid this stat unless youre’ the tank. so stats like Cleric or Rabid are not taken as to not mess up the fight.

4) eat hearty!
Foods and utillity consumables are very important in raids.
For condition dealers they could give up to 30% more condition duration which will be 30% overall damage boost.
for buffers they could give 20% more boon duration which would help alot for the group.
So like the gear, take the food which will amplify your role the most.

5) get a group together!
Here’s where most people fall short in their journey to raids.
They set up their own builds, and when they try to join other groups, they’re kicked for not playing the meta or having propper builds,
and then end up on the forums complaining or just quitting raids all-together.
So here’s what you can do:

a. try to find a group which will take you, and when you join them explain it’s your first time,
that you haven’t scored a kill yet but you’ve read about the encounter and got the theory down.
at this point they might kick you, AS IS THEIR RIGHT.
this is very important.
Nobody has to play with you, they might want a quick kill, or just don’t trust you.
You can’t force somebody to play with you or agree to have you in their composition.
This isn’t toxic environment, this is just free will. and you can’t mess with that.
so what you can do is…

Start your own group!
how do you do that?
go to the LFG and press the “Advertise your group button”.
Then in the description write something like this:
“VG lfm chrono/tank/healer/[enter other roles here] no-req run. just know what to do”
“Gorse LFM for exercise run. no exp needed!”
“VG LFM for starters run”
Any of these descriptions will be sure to get you people for your group,
since as you may not know, you’re not the only person who wants to get into raiding.

this might take a while, but when you PUG raids, no matter your exp level, getting a group together is the longest part.

6) Start failing!
yeah, this isn’t a miss-type.
you know how DnT and other guilds (I don’t remember other initials… sorry) got to be the top names of raiding?
They failed encounters.
Alot.
you try and fail, and each time you fail, go through the following process.
why did that happen?
did we lack something? (CC/damage/healing), were we not positioning ourselves properly?
were we late for something?
was it my fault? and if so, how can I improve?
was it someone else’s fault? how can I help them get better?
once you reach the conclusion, especially if you figured you did something wrong, tweek your build to adjust for the error
or be aware of the point of failure to not fall for it again (remember where to be/when to CC).
then go again, and fail again and again and again untill….

7) get the kill!
you’ve done it! you’ve got your first kill!
you’ve finally got your first Legendary insight!
no simply repeat stages 2 and 5 for any new encounter,
and repeat stages 3 and 4 whenever you got the funds to upgrade your gear or get better food (Toxic Crystals are expensive!)

This might seem like a joke post but it’s really not.
There are too many complaints about raids not being inclusive and having a “toxic environment”.
but after starting PUG-raiding with exotic gear about a month ago and now being with full Viper gear,
killing VG and gorse several times, having a Sabetha kill, and almost getting a Sloth kill with ONLY PUGS,
I can say that the whole “raids are hard/not inclusive/toxic” is just lazyness/a lie.

So in short: Know what to do, be honest about your experience, take the initiative and start groups for your levels,
and fail alot!

so good luck and get your kills! If I’ve done it, so can you!

Stop kicking low level Players from Fractals

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: RexxarTheHunter.3926

RexxarTheHunter.3926

Same as always….
If you want to get into a party of your choosing

START YOUR OWN GROUP.

People have a right to play however they want and nobody is obligated to play with you.
You may be lvl 80 full asc 500k AP and have soloed Sabetha and Matt and people might still kick you because they want to and don’t owe you anything!
If you wanna play as a low level/nomad gear/all whites in any content, you can do that, but you can’t force other people ot agree with you.
So stop complaining and start your own group with your own req.

MMOs are a free society and people are entitled to their own opinions.
No offense but grow up.

On group thresholds for raids and fractals

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: RexxarTheHunter.3926

RexxarTheHunter.3926

People keep complaining about raid/fractals group demanding things like specific
meta builds, full ascended sets and legendary insights.
The main claim against these demands in that they lead to new people not reaching
the threshold to start joining these groups, and make the given content some sort of
an exclusive club.

I’d like to try and explain the reasoning behind this approach:

There are several reasons for players to ask other players to pass a threshold (gear-related or otherwise):
1) They’re very experienced with the content, and have become bored with it, and thus
want to complete it quickly to get the rewards and move on. So they need a proper party.
2) They consider the content very difficult and truly believe the threshold is required. So they need a proper party.
3) They see everyone else are asking for it, so they consider it necessary. So they demand a proper party.

I find these reasons legitimate in every way – players want to make sure they succeed, and/or maintain their productivity.

There’s nothing truly wrong with them.

But why ask for these things? The main argument against them is that these demand don’t reflect the player’s skill, or actual experience in any way.
While that may be true, they provide a safeguard of sort – a player may not know how to properly play their class (which is inexcusable), but if they manage to out-damage other players with their own un-optimized rotation due to enhanced gear, consumables and other buffs, it doesn’t matter.

In a utopia you’d ask a player if they’ve done/beaten the encounter before, and they’ll respond truthfully.
But like House said – people lie. and therefore, a player’s experience is immeasurable until the actual encounter – when it’s too late.

So while you may consider those videos of 5-man VG kills as a sort of proof that raids don’t require fully ascended gear for all 10 players, do consider that those players have only managed to do those things after dozens of runs and knowing the encounter top to bottom. And therefore have optimized their damage/healing output to a level where ascended gear/other buffs are optional.

Since new players have only started doing this content, they should compensate for their lack of experience with the best gear they can get to meet the group’s requirements.

The same thing stands for things such as Legendary Insights, titles and AP.
while those may not be truly a proof of success (they’re bought frequently on LFG),
they do sometimes provide as a safeguard of a player’s prowess. And so ensure performance.

HOWEVER – there’s a simple better solution:

Instead of trying to join these groups with outrageous demands, start your own group! Experiment, be more accepting than the other groups.
I assure you, your group will fill itself very fast.
Play your own way! try your own special builds!

You can’t force ANet to force other players (or force other players yourselves at that matter), to accept other players to their group.
Luckily, starting a group/lfg/10-man squad isn’t locked behind a 300g comm tag.
so, just do your own thing!

Disclaimer – I’ve been playing since launch, but only killed the VG for the first time yesterday, and even that with exotic armor (ascended weps and trinkets but still) and pugs who accepted me.

Engineers aren't Legendary

Getting a legendary weapon for your engineer is too unrewarding…
We use kits most of the time and thus can’t even display our auras/effects/footprints!
That + the fact that my engineer is an Asura renders my Predetor nigh invisible!
I know it’s “a bug that will be fixed” but they’ve been saying that since launch!
It’s not fair that our class mechanic makes us not legendary!
Why can’t all grenades be visually changed like Grenade Barrage?
Why can’t we have our auras and footprints while using kits?
It’s not fair and needs to be fixed!

I’m almost done with crafting HOPE and I hate thinking that I’ll barely be able to show it off…

Problem Definition - wait for precursor

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: RexxarTheHunter.3926

RexxarTheHunter.3926

Problem definition – Time gating in Precursor/HoT legendaries crafting:

Complaint: Due to time gating, it can take over 2 months to craft the precursor/HoT legendary! It’s not challenging or difficult. Just plain annoying.

Usual answer: It took me 2 years to craft my legendary! Why are you complaining about 2 months? You’re acting like an entitled noob!

Actual problem: In theory, if you had a copious amount of gold, you could have bought all the mats for a classic legendary, do the necessary dungeon/PvP track to get the tokens for the gift, buy the precursor from the TP, and craft the legendary in roughly 2 weeks.

How’s the time spent here?
1) The dungeon/reward track – actual things you have to do. Time depends (sort of) on your skill and parties.
There’s a slight time-gate here, but it’s size depends on you. If you go for the reward track AND the dungeons, this could take you 2-3 days (180 tokens per day + tokens from pvp).
2) Acquiring mats/gold for the mats – if, like certain players, you play the TP, this could take something like a week (so I’ve heard, not sure, and isn’t relevant here). Another way would be to farm something like dungeons (pre-nerf), or SW until you have the proper amount.
If not, could take months or even years.
Acquiring the precursor – like the mats acquisition, could take a week to get gold from the TP, several weeks/some time to farm cash to buy it off the TP from various sources, or years until you get lucky from regular gameplay, or the mystic toilet.

These last 2 sections are the bulk of your time! They depend ONLY on you!
If you’re lucky and/or play the TP, this’ll be a very quick and would seem unimportant in your “quest” for you weapon.
If you’re farming something, you could get a big chunk of gold each day and feel the progress you’ve made due to YOUR hard investment.
If you’re just “playing the game”, then yes, this’ll take you months and years because that’s how YOU choose to play. The game isn’t forcing you to wait. The only obstacle is YOU.
This is a good implementation by ANet which gives the players complete freedom and places the responsibility and time management on the player. We’re free to skip a day of crafting and it won’t effect our overall progression, and we can sprint a chunk of crafting if we choose to in a single day to compensate for the lost time. The choice rests on us.

Now let’s take a look at the time-gated progress for precursor crafting and HoT legendaries (just came to realize the problem is in the HoT precursors but hell, just go with it):

Let’s ignore the HUGE and disproportionate amount of mats needed to craft the precursors (just my opinion).
Some of these precursors, Astralaria for example, have an 87 days-long time gate in one of it’s phases due to Deldrimor steel, charged crystals, and Zinn’s journal (which for some reason takes 12 days to complete… Why is that?).
Now, I understand the mechanic, time gates are used to increase the value of certain objects and items. But… It’s just an artificial method to inflate their values. They don’t increase difficulty, the goal doesn’t become more challenging, it just forces you to log in for several days, do a fake daily and basically, block your progress to the legendary for the next 24 hours.
The control over the progress is transferred from the player, to the game. Good skill and gameplay are not rewarded by this method, only constant log ins, and patience…

This is the core issue here. Nobody wants things “instantly”, nobody is acting entitled. All the players are willing to wait and invest time in their legendary, but the players who are willing to work HARDER expect their investment to be rewarded properly.
The players feel like they’ve lost certain control over the game since their gameplay won’t be rewarded the same way it was before.
Time gating forces the player to wait and restricts their gameplay

I hope this cleared the issue about this subject, and will help find a path towards a solution.

tl;dr – players feel that if they’re willing to work harder, they should be rewarded properly, and not be forced to wait.

BTW – I’ve been playing since launch and still have no legendary. It sucks, but hey, I never really worked for it, so I would expect no less.

I hate destroying items!!

Dear ANet,
I love getting/buying/looting items as much as the other guy,
But if I’m buying/getting an item for a collection, and then I can’t even sell
It to a merchant or salvage it, the only way to clear my inventory
Is to drag and destroy the item… AND THEN TYPE IT’S FULL NAME.
This sucks and is very annoying.
Stop making me destroy items!
Doing collections and leveling chars (which gives un-tradable and unsalvagable items)
has become quite a clean up chore!
Make those items consumable with no effect.
Make them sellable to merchants with a low profit price.
Doesn’t matter, I just don’t want to destroy items all the time!
Examples:
All the items for the collections of the order back pieces.
The warbler from the story.

It’s a small QoL fix which I’m sure will help many players

I'm tired of being optimistic [Spoilers]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

RexxarTheHunter.3926

Hey guys, I’ve been playing since launch and have been playing GW1 since before factions. I love the game and have supported it for years. Even pushed several of my friends to start playing it recently.

But, now that I’ve completed the HoT story… I’m just tired…

I’m tired of waiting for a good story.
I’ve been reading to posts in the forums these last few days and saw that many players, like myself, are not satisfied by the plot of the story.
And that’s good, it’s important to be critical, and not instantly accept what you’re given. What bothers me (even though it’s actually a good thing) are all the other posts that discuss the theory that “mordy is still alive!”, “The egg will wake up and turn on us!”.
ENOUGH! Why are we speculating on a plot that by all means SHOULD have been a complete and coherent story about an army VS a primeval force of nature?! I don’t want a twist that M is still alive, because he’s not some comic-book villain, he’s a dragon! And taking him down should have been epic, conclusive and certain! If ANet will res him it will be bad on so many levels…
Say what you will about the Zhaitan fight (press 1 to kill dragon) it was epic, and had a massive scale to it.
It felt like an invasion! A war that we’ve fought long and hard to win.
And in the end, he fell and no one doubted his demise.
What did we have for M? Mind fight vs a giant lizard + deus ex machina in the form of some unresolved “weakness”, trahearne’s “suicide” which killed M’s leftovers and that we can SOMEHOW trust caithe (oh I was just focused on my SECOND wyld hunt… WHAT???!!!)

I’m tired of waiting for long-term goals…

Legendary crafting was supposed to a magnificent scavenger hunt, and it partially is. But let’s be honest, it’s just a different paywall for the precursor!
I would not have minded if all the tiers were tripled in size, and included items that rarely dropped from certain bosses in dungeons/raids or some events. Because it would have felt like a huge epic journey which people would strive (for a long time!) to complete! It still would have taken a long time, and it would have been fulfilling to do!
But what do we have now?
Mat collections which you can acquire faster from the TP. So, if I want a precursor, I’d either buy it from the TP as-is (cheaper), or buy the mats because collecting it on my own is just crazy to do (3k mithril ore?!).
So I want a precursor =>I need money => best way to get money? => SW since dungeons are crap.
And nothing has changed…

It’s just tiring to keep saying that the game will get better on the next patch/expansion/LS update..
It should have been good in THIS expansion!!!!

Other things that are annoying:
No lore on elite specs. no lore on rytlock’s power. Revenents are just a thing suddenly. TD is a nightmare. ANet being childish and pretending that dungeons don’t exist instead of fixing them. Incredible amount of missing characters, items like the amulet that detects the heir to the krytab throne.

Just stop opening doors you’re not going to walk through ANet, we’re all tired of being disappointed.

P.s : I know about all the no budget/time/intended for casual/ instant replies which are destined to come in this post’s way. But let’s be honest, HoT is NOT as good as it really should have been.
