When I first started playing mesmer one of my greates joys was messing with my opponents. The portal used to be a very good tool for confusing the enemy, and it also acted as a nice way to disengage if needed. The utility provided lots of in-combat mobility, and it was always satisfying to be able to portal-stomp downed enemies. With the internal cooldown added, there is little reason to slot portal any more. I rarely if ever see people using the utility, and this saddens me since it used to make for very creative combat situations and the skill suits the class-mechanics very well. I wish for the devs to give players a reason to slot portal for other scenarios than just group play. My suggestion would be to make the portal remove “x” conditions on use. This is a mechanic similar to “Shadowstep” – a strong utility used by thieves. I am aware this might be difficult to implement considering how strong it would be for group play, but it could be avoided by making the condiremoval only affect the caster, or by making the removal only proc on “first use”. It is also worth noting that “Null Field” is an already implemented aoe condiremoval, not considered OP, and it wouldnt hurt to give portal the same abilities. Another option would be to lower the CD, making the utility more frequently usable.
