Idea: Dungeon Vanquishes

I’m happy to see that there is support for something like this! I figured I couldn’t have been the first person to mention this idea, especially since it was present in GW1. Also, I like Kain’s idea of having a “vanquishing mode” where clearing the map is literally your only goal – with proper balancing and a way to lose (ie wipe so many times and you start over), that could lead to some intense gameplay.

I’m not sure if anyone has posted anything about this, but a thought came to me while I was running dungeons through the LFG tool. We were skipping past most of the mobs (which is totally fine), and I got to thinking about what could be an interesting incentive to kill them all instead. Then it hit me: what about adding a “Vanquish” reward to dungeons, ala Guild Wars 1’s hard mode vanquishes?

If you kill every mob in an explorable dungeon path, you get an extra bonus chest that includes gold/tokens/loot/something worth the effort. There could even be a new set of dungeon achievements that you earn as you vanquish each explorable path.

This could create an optional way for players to clear dungeon runs with a little extra reward besides the typical loot. What are your thoughts on this idea?

I think this sounds like a great idea! With the way things are now, so many areas are completely devoid of players, and this would be a wonderful incentive to get people back out into the world. Even if the final outcome is only similar to this idea, I believe the devs should definitely consider this! Good job!

Defeat Xolotl - NPC voice range reduction?

I don’t know if this bothers anyone else, but while playing in Caledon Forest there is a Group Event, “Defeat Xolotl,” that is active almost every time I’m in the zone. The event itself is fine; however, the issue I have is with the range at which players can hear Xolotl’s taunt – you can be in a completely different part of the map and hear this over and over and over…

“Prove the sun shines through you! Face me as another form!”

Now, I understand that this is probably intended as a way to draw players’ attention towards the event (which arguably works, since hearing her say this 30 times in a row REALLY makes me want to kill her!!). However, I believe that the event’s information panel on the right of the screen more than suffices as a way to let players know that something is going on. Honestly, when I’m working on map completion or other events in the area on multiple characters, hearing that quote a million times over is absolutely annoying and detracts from the experience.

Does anyone else agree that the range at which players hear this quote should be significantly reduced to include only those players who are engaged in the event? What about similar events in other zones?
