It ONLY happens to NCsoft stuff. That’s way more annoying than the randomness of it all.
At some point you apologists (yes i’m going there) need to understand something. It doesn’t happen for any other non NCsoft game. Ever.
I don’t need to contact my ISP to tell them to route me differently when every other game I try not connecting to NCsoft doesn’t have this problem.
This has been ongoing for months. People experience spikes, latency, disconnects. Everything else works fine. And then you lot come in with your “it’s on your end” crap.
Why are you responding instead of Anet anyway?
“This event sucks”.
There, rant out of the way. Now then…
-Tag and run off. This is a problem. And those that do it have a even “better” excuse than before because mobs don’t drop anything at all. If the intention was to prevent devaluation of current assets and materials, which I don’t believe by the way, then it’s only another sign that you misunderstand your players. They farm. You gave them avenues to farm. To restrict farming in this instance alone is an open contradiction.
-Bloom acquisition rate. I understand the bonus 20 daily, and the low bloom acquisition rate for subsequent participation, is meant to “pace” us. I’ll give you that benefit of the doubt. But three years in, you should know better than to expect your players to want to pace themselves according to your presets. Added onto this, the influx of free players are seeing for the first time, an invasion that doesn’t reward.
-Personal performance vs server performance. If I reach 10 stacks, in my mind I’ll just stop. Why bother? The reward ratio is whacked, and as stated above, unless you engage in tag and run (which is a bad, long-term systemic flaw), for my trouble I get a few more blooms, nothing more. The server will take care of the rest. This isn’t healthy. More so in a limited event time and space.
Overall, I personally feel that this event was simply not well-thought-out. It just wasn’t.
Phantom Hood for 200 gems. A good deal IMO. Oh wait, I have to buy twice that number because that’s the lowest denomination.
That’s a typical thought process going through a fair number of people’s minds.
“Save it for later”.
As I mentioned before, why can’t I hang on to my gold instead? Of course, you want people to spend money instead, over and above saving leftover gems for later.
I’m not however that unreasonable enough to not consider that Anet would like to bump profits through this. I’m not going to begrudge a company’s desire to make money.
-BUT-
For the love of God be transparent. Be forthright about it. Don’t for a second think you can pull a fast one over today’s gamer crowd, because warranted or not, there will be a response.
SUGGESTION:
In principle, any compromise would be bad (for us) as I’ve said earlier. But I’ll live with fixed, albeit, smaller increments. Something like 10s up to 100s.
BETTER SUGGESTION:
Show us, and justify to us, how you can balance making (I would say force but Gaile’d get all defensive and call us ranty again) people spend money (within reason) with people buying gems with their in-game gold. You don’t want gem trades to just occur from gold and would like more monetary injection? Let’s see the (dare I say it) graph.
Because the old system functioned pretty much the same way. People who didn’t like the scales opened their wallets anyway. And those with gold spent said gold in amounts they chose. So again, why was this changed?
BECAUSE
Simple greed. Only made worse by weak attempts to excuse it with “new players” and “complexity”.
I’ll settle for 100 gem increments at this point. It’s still a bad compromise, but if my suspicions are correct as to them wanting more real money spent, then I don’t think Anet’s going to budge.
Ideally, the old system was fine as it was. You didn’t need to study the graph. Just input gold/gem amount, it gives you a forecast amount. Was simple enough for me.
Of course.
Stupid change to a system that really didn’t need fixing comes along. We kitten and moan. Moderator calls us out can claims moral high ground because we, who didn’t see this coming, who didn’t ask for this, who didn’t expect this over the other bugs/fixes more urgently needed…
To the devs, (because I don’t really want to talk to a condescending mod right now) you need to revert back to previous system. If I already have x gems and needed just a snitch more to get something that tickled my fancy, why do I have to “waste” getting 400?
“Because you can save them for later”. How about I save my gold for later? Why can’t I do that? Just admit that you want players to spend more real money. This wasn’t to “simplify” the system.
“You don’t have X gold for the minimum 400 gems? You suck.”
Yes. I currently, after leveling 4 toons to 80 with full exotics, and all professions at 400+, am left with 60+ gold. Yes I don’t have the gold. Yes I suck. I do however, play at least 4 hours a day (I think), more than alot of folks can muster even for a mere weekend. I’d be interested to know how many have the (atm it’s 80+) gold to even consider buying 400 gems, of which they may not even use all of it.
“Anet needs people to spend money otherwise they can’t make money.”
If you’re sinking this low, I don’t even want to talk to you. The previous system didn’t stop people who wanted to SPEND WHAT THEY WANT you know, spend what they want did it? Judging by the stuff on sale in the TP I can only assume gems were being traded healthily enough. So no, not a good enough excuse.
Don’t know if it’s relevant here or it’s just me, but prior to the “first” build today I deposited collectibles in my bank, none of which showed up in bank after I restarted my client.
