I have only just started a ranger which is sitting at lvl 7. I wanted peoples opinion on this build I made with the editor, if anyone has tried it or is willing to try it and give feedback on how it performed for them. would be much appreciated.
Weapons:
Shortbow
Sword + Torch
Utility:
Flame Trap
Spike Trap
Zypher
Elite:
Rampage as One
Traits:
Marksmanship (20) .. 10 [Predators instinct] .. 20 [Piercing Arrow]
Skirmishing (20) .. 10 [Sharpened Edges] .. 20 [Trappers Expertise]
Wilderness Survival (20) .. 10 [Shared Anguish] .. 20 [Oakeart Salve]
nature magic (10) .. 10 [Nature’s Bounty]
Pets:
Black widow – f2 – 2 sec stun.. other note immobilize + poison field
Boar/pig/hog – f2 [random] .. other charge knockdown
How i planned on using it:
1) with [Trappers expertise] i can aoe target place traps ahead of me
2) place fire ring with torch swap to have projectiles i shoot also stack burn duration
4)swap to shotbow
5) pop quickness
6) cripple+bleed shot [if fire up add increased burn duration for fire projectile]
7) tell widow to stun as they approach traps [another fire field more burn]
8) meanwhile just unload and replace traps..
..9)if the get close swap pets and board does his knockdown and i swap weapons and replace fire
..10) do the whole sword dance jump out in make fire shield from torch fire etc.
some are done at the same time any longer fights i do any combination of things to stay away and in control.. traps, stuns, snares, pop backs, combos [with self and or pet]. though as all things easier said then done. mostly if its works, was it fun? how is the survivability vs dmg? etc.

Ohh if only pets could rally on kills as well… I think allowing that would be a step in the right direction for the most part. Seeing as anyone wanting to go pet specs really need their pets to get any benefits. Also yea the A.I. being suicidal unless you can control your pet very well and not against overwhelming odds is helpful to a very short extent considering how important dodging and making more evasive decisions is required to play gw2 effectively. If your pets can help you rally why not share that bond?
Anyone else feel Pets are fun for exploring but in dungeons/PvP/Big Events they are just about useless? I could stop attacking or evading and start reviving my pet but then it would just go and die in a second or so and no one is gonna really spend time to revive it either. It wouldn’t be much if you just add the ability for pets to rally on kills, make it a trait if need be. Anyone else think so?
