There should be an NPC there, a shaman, you talk to and then fight.

If they aren’t there the skill point is bugged.

Comma separators in the Trading Post

While I personally agree that the numbers would be easier to read, they can’t implement this in a simple manner.

The trading post is shared across all servers (as far as I know). The use of commas like that is strictly an American custom. In Europe, they use commas when we would use decimal points, and they use decimal points when we would use commas. We write the number ten thousand down as 10,000.00 and they would write it as 10.000,00. What’s sensible to you and me would look bizarre to the Europeans, and vice versa.

This is also likely why the game spells out exactly how much something costs with fields for gp, sp, and cp instead of presenting it in decimal form.

I’m sure they could put in a workaround that displayed numbers differently based on some criteria, but it’s not a simple matter of assuming anyone who speaks English will prefer the American way or that only the European servers will want to see numbers in the European style.

It really isn’t difficult to base the display of the numbers on your current regional settings in Windows. In fact it’s relatively easy.

Would be very nice to have those long numbers that appear in the Trading Post, such as # of listings, to be comma-delimited.

Much easier to read:
1,234,567

than:
1234567

I had this too. Switch to another character or create a new one. Log into the game with them. Then you can go back to your original.

Increase your in-game gamma setting to around 1.25, to compensate for differences between Windows and OS X.

Should be something the game does automatically, IMHO.

(the setting is in the graphics options section of the game settings).

It has to do with how your security settings are configured, not where you are installing it. You don’t want to protect yourself from malicious software, change the setting (administrator password required)

This has nothing to do with GateKeeper! GK stops programs from running at all with a normal launch if set to its strictest mode and the app is unsigned. None of the security settings apply in any way whatsoever to installing an app in a custom location. That is the domain of permissions. And you always have permission to write to your home directory.

Any installer which pops up admin verification in a .pkg installer also changes the group permissions so that the installed files are owned by admin users, which is quite annoying when the files go in your own directory.

Finally, someone who knows what he’s talking about.

Pinch to zoom works for me too.

It’s a bit wonky, sometimes i have to repeat the gesture slowly for it to register, but it does work.

An admin password should (and is) only required when you are installing something outside of your own user domain, such as into the system Applications folder.

The OP was stating he is installing into his own User folder and therefore any need of a password should not be an admin password.

It’s a matter of different gamma settings (color profile) between Windows and Mac.

The Cider wrapper switches to a Windows appropriate gamma when it has focus.

/clientport 80 is a fix ArenaNet introduced for people whose ISPs traffic shape their data therefore causing lag and stuttering issues during peak times.

Are you sure it’s what you are looking for if you can’t even log in?

What error message are you getting?

Right-click on the Guild Wars 2 icon in your Applications folder.

Select “Show Package Contents”

Navigate to Contents→Resources

Open “CiderSettings.plist” in your TextEdit

Find the following line:

<key>CiderGameOptions</key>

REPLACE the line underneath it with:

<string>— Gw2.exe /clientport 80</string>

Save and start the client. Hope this helps!

In order to install the GW2 Mac Beta client, administrator authentication is required. Why? What is being installed that requires superuser privileges?

The game is being installed into your system Applications folder.

No idea about eventually going native.

Probably depends on how much of a Mac fan their president is (seems he is…) and on how much resources his programming team tells him they need for this.

I doubt it’ll happen soon, since I am betting they are very focused on launch issues right now and don’t want to divert significant resources to other endeavors.

And if the port ends ups working well for most users, it’ll probably stay like this.

Issues I've noticed

A list of issues I’ve noticed after a few short gaming sessions:

1. Non-US keyboards aren’t supported. @ and the key to the left of 1 (its not a tilde on European keyboards) aren’t recognized.

2. Gamma differences between the Windows and Mac clients – to get the same brightness on the Mac I had to up my gamma to 1.3

3. Using the trackpad two-finger gestures to change direction isn’t respecting ‘tracking speed’ (as set in System Prefs) – turning using the two-finger swipe gesture is much too slow and requires multiple swipes. The three-finger swipe to change camera angle does respect tracking speed.

4. The client should force the function keys to work as function keys while it has focus. I know I can set the f keys to function-mode in System Prefs but I don’t want to lose their Mac functionality when I am out of the game. WoW does this nicely. In-game f keys are f keys, out of game my Mac setting is respected.

A drop you have noticed? And don’t forget its still a beta. Tweaks incoming.

In any case I’d gladly give up 5% performance to not have to reboot all the time.

From a “purist” POV – sure I’d like a native 64-bit client.

From a “practical” POV? If it works, it works.

Actually they’ve stated all along they had an internal team working on porting options for the game. And they even had quite a few “wink wink nudge nudge” moments when asked about official Mac support.

That said, no one is forcing you to stop using your new PC for GW2.

Joke indeed.

Personal Story Difficulty Unacceptable

That’s why they call it game balance.

It’s never fun to run in circles just to kill a mob.

Just because you play a 5sig warrior baby doesn’t mean a thief or mesmer faces a far more difficult battle for every engagement, no matter how well you know the class.

Don’t have a single signet on my warrior’s build.

Have you tried kiting? I too thought it was FPS bull, but it’s given me some epic battles in this game so far with true “oh crap, i can’t believe i just soloed all those mobs” moments.

Many, many, many people have succeeded in completing the personal story. Is it hard at places? Yes. Is it doable? Yes.

Keep trying, it’s a lot more fun to succeed at a challenge.

I hope GW2 stays like this.

Let’s see if I can decipher it, I believe he was trying to speak some known variant of English, though unsuccessfully:

1. He’s telling you that “panda pack” is a common pejorative for WoW’s new expansion. I think he understood your “hmm… panda pack?” as a genuine question and not a rhetorical one. And he was explaining that the original commenter to your original comment was sure you’d be aware of this term.

2. He is sarcastically remarking that the OP can love GW2 even if you seem to think it’s not a good game.

3. He is stating that maybe GW2 does have problems, but the positives far outweigh the negatives so people can still love the game despite being aware of its problems.

I think the main issue is that GW2 combat is very different from other MMO combat people are used to.

I had the same issue at first. Would take my warrior up face-to-face with the mobs, take my hand off the mouse and start pressing 1,2,3 on my keyboard. Died. A lot.

Then I started actually paying attention to the mobs and noticing when they start their high-powered attack and using my Dodge. Worked better but I was still dying quite a bit.

And then finally, I read some guide on reddit about mouse-turning, and kiting. At first I thought “that’s FPS bull, I hate that”, but decided to try.

It’s been an absolute blast. I absolutely love the exhilaration in being able to take down 3 veteran mobs by starting out melee and when kitten hits the fan switching to a ranged weapon and kiting them around.

Have even begun to employ more advanced “stop kiting, go back to melee for a few hard punches and back to kiting” tactics.

It’s super-fun. Just need to take the time to de-learn the usual “stand here press 1,4,5” routine other MMOs have conditioned you to play.

GW2 combat is freaking amazing.

Minor inconsistencies in forum UI

1. When you hover over the nav bar at the top of the forum page (GW2, Fourms, Support, Wiki) the corresponding link is underlined. When you do the same on the main web page’s nav bar (same options) the link gets a nice red textured background instead.

2. The grey bar at the bottom of the web page (the one showing the Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, etc. icons) doesn’t have the stylized Guild Wars 2 logo that appears in the exact same place on the main game web page.
