The thing about people like you is that you simply do not understand what it feels like to be Asian/Australian/not American. You’re right, other MMO’s do this too, they deliberately set events to an American prime time only and simply do not care about Oceania. If you were in our position I highly doubt you would disagree.

I’ve missed many events in many MMO’s regardless of my region due to work, sleep, or familial obligation. That’s life. Literally. I’ve also played with many Oceanic Players who rolled on North American servers (when there were Oceanic Servers to choose from) because they wanted to, and they made it to plenty of events without gripe. I’ve seen players from Asia in this very game playing alongside North Americans during hours that could still be considered Prime.

Maybe they’re exceptions to the general populace or maybe.. just maybe.. different people play at different times regardless of Region? Anet has already said that they settled on this date and time because it’s when GW2 as the most concurrent players throughout all Regions.

Yeah some people like to stay up late, what I’m saying is if you were in our shoes you would have a very different opinion seeing as for us it will be 6am on a Monday morning.

Don’t twist things, you’re taking a small sample of the Oceanic population and saying “Oh hey look a few of you stay up til early hours of a Monday morning, because of this all of you must also do it”.

Not at all. I’m not saying you must do anything. People from all over the world have Work, Anniversaries, Birthdays, School, will have Emergencies (North Eastern seaboard of the US/Canada has a HUGE Hurricane coming this weekend for example), Dates, Sports Events, etc.. If you want to be there and you can, by all means show up. If you don’t want to do it or you can’t due to other obligations, that’s unfortunate.

What I’m saying is, that’s the nature of life. Every moment that you’re doing one thing, you’re missing out on doing other things. This can not be avoided.

In this particular case, for this particular event, Anet’s intent is for it to be Unique. That’s the design intent. Their vision for the event. Not everyone can be apart of it due to that fact. They have two choices on what to do to address that.

Either choose a time that makes it most available for the bulk of their playerbase.. or sacrifice their design intent by making it less (i.e. not) Unique. They’ve chosen the former. And whether I can and will be able to make it or not doesn’t change that they have every right to do it and have no responsibility to change it simply because I bought the game.

But what I am saying is your’ view would be different, you have avoided that by saying ‘whether or not i can’ etc. You are posting here telling us to stop complaining because it’s perfect for YOU.

Just don’t look at this thread if you don’t agree with everyone else here. I’m sick of people like you who get everything they want because they’re American, you then tell us to quit complaining? I’d like to see ANET host all these ‘one time only events’ of which this is but merely the first, and then I’d like to see your’ reaction when you can’t make it due to it being at 3am on a Monday morning.

Who cares man, it’s one event in the game, one achievement, maybe one or two items you wont be able to get. This game is huge and it’s not designed so everyone can have every single thing in the game. THE WORLD OF TYRIA GOES ON, more things will come, more events, more items, more achievements. Don’t be mad at the developers for making one thing a one time only.
I miss the times when people just made really hard games and there were no guides anywhere and you either got things or you didn’t and that was it, there was no crying in forums. Appreciate the game for what it is, for the beautiful and fun game they have made (at least in a lot of our opinions). If it’s that bad then don’t play it, if you’ve spent 60 dollars on the game and still don’t like, too bad… I’m pretty sure i haven’t liked every investment I’ve made in my life.

There’s a difference between “you have to be there to get it” and “you made the mistake of living in the timezone and actually having responsibilities to work/school/not disturbing sleeping family and/or housemates that prevent you from getting up at or before dawn on a Monday morning, so sad, too bad!” And that’s without considering people even in their prime locations that are doing weekend work, have family responsibilities, or otherwise can’t make the single, one-off time that they’ve been building up to. (And the last-minute date change means that people could have moved around their schedule to make time and are now, well, baby felined.)

A lot of big named MMO’s have had 1 time only events. Most of them don’t even announce when those events are going to happen, so Anet is ahead of the curve there.

The fact of the matter is no matter what time the event happens, SOMEONE will have other responsibilities that will make them miss it and making the event repeatable makes it no different than any other Dynamic Event or Traditional Quest. Having it as a 1 Time Only event gives it weight and makes it special. That feeling is what Anet is aiming for with this one particular Event for Phase 3.

At some point you have to understand that simply paying money by purchasing the game does not give you the power to demand that they change their design decisions. MMO Communities do this far too often as it is and while in some cases it’s justified (class imbalance or encounter difficulty) in cases such as this.. I really don’t see it.

I can think of a few justifications for having it only happen once, but the spoiler one they’re giving us just isn’t credible. After all, people who don’t want to get spoilered can, you know, just avoid the spoilers so they can enjoy it when they can get to it. In fact, for the people who can’t make the initial time, the same thing that stops them from being able to make the initial time is also likely to stop them from being able to go looking for spoilers if the event is repeated often enough.

It worked for Guild Wars 1, and being able to experience something yourself even with major spoilers is infinitely better than being locked out.

I think, it’s less of a “you’re going to be spoiled” and more of a “we want the community to experience this with no guides or cheat sheets.” The Mad King books are a perfect example of the experience of the task being expedited due to the availability of Guides relatively quickly after the content is released. It’s to the point where when people ask in Map/Team for hints or help, the answer is almost always to “just look up a guide.” Obviously that can’t be avoided always and Anet knows that.. but I can’t say that it’s wrong for them to want a few things here and there to remain unknown to give a specific feel to the playerbase taking part in it.

It’s unfortunate for those people who can’t make it, that they won’t be able to experience the event, but such is the nature of some content. It’s really not all that different from some players being unable to acquire Legendaries and some people never being able to do the Clock Tower Puzzle. In every case, there’s people who are upset about it but these things were designed that way for a specific purpose by Anet. You may not like or agree with that but they’re perfectly within their rights as Content Authors to desire for that to be the case.

The point is that they are favouring Americans over everyone else, now I’m starting to wonder if they’re intentionally killing GW2 so they can shut it down and just enjoy the money they made from us initially buying the game and gems.

Unless the same event is held the following season, then yes you would Kaelynn. And even then, if the event is held at the same time then you may miss it again. That is.. of course… if ANET survives a year, GW2 is beginning to remind me of SWTOR tbh.

Sorry guys, I must have missed the big warning ‘You will miss out on events because we favour American players and you are not American’ when I bought the game.

This is really disappointing, why would you sell a game to Asia/Australia/Europe if you will then only host an event ONCE at the US prime time only? Which by the way is 3-6am in Australia.

However, this disappointing decision from ANET has highlighted one major problem in their server structure- the lack of Oceanic servers. If you were to host it at a single time throughout the entire game, you could have then changed the time for the Oceanic servers to THEIR primetime, rather then blatantly ignoring the rest of the world in the favor of US players.

The ‘spoiler’ excuse is pointless, people would only watch youtube videos if a) they don’t have the game or b) they can’t complete the event properly.
