Dear Arenanet,
The Mai Trin encounter (one of fractals final bosses) is a real frustrating boss and absolutely no fun at all. Games are made to be fun, not frustrating.
To many people die during that encounter, not because they’re bad or because they don’t know the encounter, but simply because Mai Trin has an attack that hits you even while you dodge (and this attack practically one-shots berserkers.) A single targeted non-dodgeable attack that hits like a truck. (Seriously change the lightning bolt to a truck.)
Secondly, she has a projectile based area-of-effect attack which projectiles cannot be blocked or reflected by walls. If they’re not a projectile, then don’t make them look like one. If they are a projectile, make them blockable/reflectable. If you don’t want to do either then give the boss more visual (or maybe audio) cues as to when she uses which attack.
Thirdly, the only way to make this boss less frustrating is to bring a Guardian that keeps giving the Block buff. Now correct me if I’m wrong but, content in this game should be designed in such a way that it is doable by any composition of professions. That is why you designed the game without Tanks/Healers and gave everyone a dodge and healing/defensive abilities. If I want to do a dungeon with friends or guildmembers but non of them, or me, has a Guardian, then it shouldn’t be punished with frustration on some encounters.
