Well it’s been over 2 months since I uninstalled GW2 and last logged in to the forums and I see this thread has grown by 6 more pages since I last posted!
And guess what? Nothing has been done to solve this game-breaking (it is for me personally) issue. I am not even slightly surprised to be honest since they’ve already spent the money that’s been paid for the game on beer, tabs and hookers most likely! One positive thing you can say about games with a subscription model is that this issue would have been fixed super fast, bet your life on it.
Well since I can see that nothing’s changed and I have no reason to take up the GW2 gauntlet again I’ll toddle off.
I started gathering herbs in the middle of a fight because of this issue. It needs fixing because it’a fundamental issue with controlling your character AND it really should not be a difficult fix.
I’ll keep bumping until hopefully someone takes notice!
I’m developing a reputation as a wanton murderer in the critter world due to this feature, and as stated above, running at the head of a pursuing menagerie is becoming old very fast.
I experienced this issue in WOW a long time ago (before they added a cooldown period to your purchases) and had the correct item sent to me via in game mail after raising an in game ticket. This all happened within a matter of a couple of hours.
I had the same issue in the early days of SWTOR. It took a while to happen but the support team were able to provide me with the correct piece of kit via an in game ticket system. Unfortunately for me by the time it happened I’d outlevelled and replaced the piece of gear in question.
For GW2 support to say ‘too bad, that’ll teach you’ isn’t very comforting.
As has been stated, this could all be avoided with the inclusion of proper filtering on bind on acquire items such as karma and token purchased items. Prevention is always better and usually easier than cure.
Please, please, please fix this and remove right-click targeting (or at least make it a toggle option). It is a major issue and incredibly frustrating. I’m fed up of shooting things I didn’t want to when I’m running along panning the camera around and even worse losing my target during combat and targeting something else.
I meant my thread. I believe I was the first one in these forums who made a thread to complain about right click targeting and activation.
I was just trying to emphasise your point about nobody seeming to notice by saying how can anyone (who doesn’t use keyboard turning) NOT notice such a basic flaw in the game design.
It really is the single most infuriating ‘feature’ in the game right now for me at least. I love playing thief with dual pistols and literally running rings round my target with improved run speed (signet) and lots of dodging (enhanced through traits). I know it’s not the most effective style but I just love the play style. Losing my target or picking up a stray moa really, really annoys me.
I’m not sure that this is a ‘bug’ as such, more of an extremely unwelcome ‘feature’. I don’t think I’ve ever played another game where the mouse left click functionality was doubled up onto the right click also. It is counter intuitive based on all my (and apparently pretty much everyone else’s) previous gaming experience.
It’s seriously pissing me off and it is spoiling my overall enjoyment of this game.
I’ve had enough of this targeting fiasco for now. I’m going to take a break from GW2 until after Christmas methinks. Hopefully when I do log back in something may have been done to fix this. And maybe Scotland will qualify for the World Cup too….
I suppose it’s a good thing that I know I can take a break without that feeling that I’m paying a sub fee and getting nothing for it, nor am I worried that I might fall behind in the gear grind
Sod dueling and just make the basics of the game WORK PROPERLY F F S! And you could start with sorting out the stupid game breaking right mouse button funtionality as per the thread linked below:

Sorry, but I completely disagree with you. I think it’s far more important for ArenaNet to get the basics of the game working properly before they expend resource adding ‘bells and whistles’. This is, of course, my personal view on the matter but I know for a fact that it’s a view shared by a very large number of the player base in this game. As for relevance to adding dueling to the game, how about this:
You can’t have a meaningful duel while you are unable to consistently control your character properly. So why add dueling in at all?
I second the OP’s point. But we’ve got different related problems here, playing together:
Right-click targeting
Targeting on mouse down / up (both already discussed)
Non-sticky targeting: target drops on clicks onto non-targetable stuff
Afaik sticky/nonsticky targeting is the established term for this. Sticky targeting contrariwise means clicking somewhere into the botany does not drop your target. I feel this option would solve the better part of the issue.

The better part of this issue is getting into a battle, moving and picking up a neutral target or three, so you are now battling against several targets instead of the original one. Moving again and you find that now you’re harvesting a node whilst being battered by a horde of hostile targets. You then decide that discretion is the better part of valour and run for it and find that you have now pot-shotted a couple more targets you didn’t want to while running away just to add to your pain……
I don’t often find that I don’t have any target at all but I often find that I’m targetting/activating something I didn’t want to.
Looks like the game is going free-to-play soon, with some paid-for DLC to keep us happy.

Hasn’t it always been ‘free to play’ once you’ve bought the game?
As an aside, I’ve received warnings from the mods for bumping 10 other threads regarding this right mouse button issue. I suppose the upside is that we can at least rest assured that someone from ANet is reading these forums even if it’s no guarantee that the details get passed on to someone who can do something about it.
Our development team reviews play input on a regular basis. They are aware of this suggestion, but have not yet reached a decision on what changes, if any, they will make to targeting.
There is a lot going on right now with the upcoming event, but after that, the team will take a look at a lot of different game elements, and may make some changes in the future.
Sorry I don’t have more specific information, but you can be sure this is not being ignored or rejected without due consideration.

Gaile, if you are following this thread at all can you please give us some indication as to whether or not this issue is at least understood to be problematic by the game developers?
This is a serious problem for many, many players and not just those who are vocal about it on the forums. It’s been months now and we have not heard a single thing from the developer’s perspective despite over 200 posts on this thread alone (there are several other threads regarding this same issue).
As far as we know right now, this may not even be considered as an issue at all by the developers. Please can you give us something a bit more substantial than your initial 3 month old post?
Quest completion and daily reset should be treated as separate events. The daily reset should only affect a player if he has 100% completion. At the point of completion your daily is done and you cannot start on it again until the next daily reset. This way if you get to 90% completion and the daily reset time is reached, it ticks over and you only have 10% left to complete. Once you complete that final 10% your quest is done, you get the rewards but you can’t start on the next daily until after the next reset time.
Is the lack of meaningful response from the game developers in this thread and on this issue because they are genuinely not yet aware of it?

Is the lack of response down to a lack of respect towards paid/paying customers who have legitimate concerns about the product they paid for and are looking for some answers?
My theory is they outsourced the game engine. They have no one on staff that can fix the problem. Same reason the camera spazes out when you are near a wall, and there is no first person view.
If this was true it may not be an issue depending on the support contract that exists between ArenaNet and the 3rd party developer. Not having someone in the company that can maintain their product would be commercial suicide If it were also the case that no support contract existed!
This whole thing, free trial weekend and new event/content, has been a complete disaster. Far from encouraging new players to sign up via the trial you will have scared them off completely.
If the company I work for ever released such a shoddy, untested pile of crap to a customer then heads would roll. There would be serious implications with regards to future business due to the damage to our reputation this debacle would have resulted in.
