Why does (or at least seem like) Anet not implement PK (Player Killing) in WvW and make Guild Wars 2 more like Sword Art Online (the light novel)?

If PK was implemented it would make the game a lot more intricate. To be more specific, I’m talking about allowing friendly fire to all players that are not in your 5 man party.
For example:

1. It would solve the mindless zerg vs zerg fights using only range skills. Warriors, Guardians and Thieves now have a reason to jump into an enemy zerg. The decision to form a massive group of people and then mindlessly steamroll through everything would no longer be the obvious choice. It would also enourage high coordination, player skill and small party adventures in WvW.

2. Players who have committed team killing will have their name icon turn red and the title “[server name] Traitor” for X amount of time. During this period if they are killed by someone who does not have the above title will be awarded 50 silver from the PKer. In the event that the PKer has no money on them all their equipment is broken (not damaged). Killing a PKer will not cause a normal player to become a [server name] traitor.

3. Killing someone from the same server should cause that server to lose points equal to somewhere between obtaining a supply camp or tower. While killing a PKer or enemy invader should equal to 1/10 of the previously mentioned score. Now whoever wins WvW gets more than just the title of “Largest Server Population,” instead they would have either “Strongest Server” or “Server with the most Server Loyalty.”

4. By implementing PK and friendly fire Anet would essentially have a self generating content. Guilds will naturally obtain the importance of protecting their members from PKers and now can challenge rival guilds to have their own flags on captured towers or castles.

5. Players that have a strong sense of morale, server loyalty and leadership will standout and create a police force (in the form of a guild probably) to protect the masses from PK. At the same time, players that enjoy playing the villain will choose to create chaos and create infamy for themselves (most likely making a guild as well). These players will have no problem walking through LA while getting heckled. Also dungeon parties won’t refuse them because their goal is to finish the dungeon quickly and efficiently, so someone with that much infamy will have the strength to satisfy that requirement. Through this method Anet would have created a situation where the players themselves are literally creating new content while doing literally nothing. This would give them more time when creating new content.

The reason why I bring this up is because i’ve been playing GW2 since beta and PvP balance aside, i feel like GW2 doesn’t have any concrete end-game material. The legendary weapons are more for looks, dungeons become too easy or don’t have adequate rewards for the difficulty.

The reason why I suggest PK as the end game material is because that is the nature of MMORPGs. Deep down people play MMORPGs so they can have the feeling of being superior to others. To have more gold, better looking gear, rarer equipment and so forth.

I really do hope you choose to answer my question, because with new popular MMORPG animes coming out (SAO 1&2 [however you begin to truly appreciate the author’s writing in the light novels rather than the anime] and Log Horizon) it’s hard to not feel the craving for GW2 to be like that.

@Elm – it is a legitimate strategy, although expensive, it is legitimate. Also other server could implement the same strategy

@Rash – new maps don’t mean a change in gameplay. For example look at GW2 PvP. Every new map that comes out is conquest based. They just for some reason refuse to have a 8v8 team vs team PvP

Lastly if we implement friendly fire, GW2 would actually have something to do with its name. Reason: when capturing a tower or castle, Blackgate players could attack other Blackgate players to increase the chances of having their own guild emblem displayed on the tower or castle

WvW has been, at least for my friends and myself (may not apply to all people), been very boring and stagnant.

However i’ve been thinking “Why doesn’t ANet allow friendly fire in WvW?”

They can make so that friendly fire affects everyone except the people in your 5 man party. This would discourage brainless zerg battles, these would be a fight between 2 group of 50 players that only spam ranged attacks non stop until 1 side disappears. With friendly fire it would encourage warriors and thieves to jump into the enemy zerg, because if the zerg is unorganized they would end up spamming AoEs on friendlies.

Also the rankings in WvW would not be determined by which server has the most players, but instead would tell people which server has the most loyal players. Having a server with a large population means nothing, having a server of players that can set aside the desire to randomly kill each other to make their server number 1 can be difficult.

There’s a lot more possibilities, but i’m going to stop here. Partly because i’m in lecture right now and also because it’s pointless to continue if the mass majority don’t like/support this idea.

I’d appreciate all input and my end goal is to make GW2 more fun and challenging

I completely agree that kicking someone out for the sole purpose of getting your guild mate in for an easy dungeon reward or “for fun” is wrong.

However i’ve kicked people out of my party before and usually i wait till the end of the dungeon before they get their reward. My reason why? Because they were rude, did not help the team/were incompetent, acted as if they alone knew the answers to everything and refused to apologize or make amends.
Starting a flame war isn’t going to solve anything, especially if they’re unreasonable and just repeat the same insult over and over again. They had all the time between starting the argument/being rude till the end of the dungeon to apologize or make amends.

They chose not to, so i see no reason why i should show them respect and allow them to get their rewards. They wasted my time by listening to their insults and lengthened the time it took to finish the dungeon. So i choose to waste their time by making them get 0 reward.

I don’t agree with needless party kicking, but there are many people out there that deserved to be kicked. I also let them know it was me that kicked them. I either tell them before hand if i kick them mid dungeon or i whisper them if it was right before chest.

This party booting system can be good or bad, it just depends on the people using it

lets put it this way. If you get a group of 4 zerker warriors and 1 mesmer (could be zerker if ur really picking, but i personally don’t care) you can finish a run in 6 minutes easily. That 1 run should give you around 90s – 1g 10s
So without a doubt running a zerker warrior and mes group will yield the highest return using the minimum amount of time

u still dont get it do you? “I had sent a email replying that this belonged in the threads in suggestive.” I swear it’s like you don’t even know what the word ignorant even means. I didn’t say “email ANet and have them move/remove the thread.” I said if u don’t want other players to criticise than email the problem to ANet instead of posting a thread.
Fool idk if ur actually dumb or pretending to be dumb, actually i lie, since i know u are dumb. Why? Because putting this in suggestive is fricken kitten Why you ask? Because suggestive is for the misc changes that don’t have to do with classes. Why the hell do u think there’s a category for each class? It’s so ppl can post stuff about how OP or UP that class is. Posting a thread about how thieves are OP in a Thieves category will attract people that give a crap about thieves. Both ppl that support a nerf and ppl the support leaving it as is (also people that think they should be buff’d but they kinda whack too).

By all means leave and take your broken english with you too because although most people don’t use proper spelling on the net at least they have adequate grammar. You child have neither the grammar to make yourself coherent or the level of intelligence to prove your point. So either GTFO, stay and complain in the 4yr old way that you’ve been doing or grow the hell up and argue like someone who has decent level of intelligence.

Reading through all these posts 1 thing keeps reoccuring and that is culling. Everyone that says a thief can perma stealth are people that have an issue with culling. All stealth skills lasts for 3s (4s if u trait for it). As for the video proof, if u havent noticed he went stealth so fast because he CnD and didnt attack anyone, then timed for his next CnD right when his stealth ends.
Also for the people that complain about about the initiative regen skills and traits, you forget that the traits that gives us initiative regen are the ones that don’t give us dmg. Grabbing a initiative regen skill means we lose 1 skill slot.

I know everyone is thinking it so i’mma just say it. Shrilly you sound like a douchbag and i dont care if you’re offended by it.

If you wanted to let ANet know without people criticising you, then send an email instead of making a thread fool. God kitten it ignorant child. This is a forum, it is a place where people ask questions, share ideas and comment on said ideas. The minute u created the thread you should’ve realized “you know what everyone is going to see this, not just ANet, so i should probably expect people that don’t share my views to argue with me.”
I’ve already addressed how the thief is going into stealth so many times, but since i do main a thief i immediately looked at his health. Why? Because i can get a decent read on his armor/weapon build as well as how he spec’d his traits. Since he has over 10k hp you can pretty much assume he isn’t running GC so his dmg won’t be at maximum dmg. Also did you notice how he refrained from fighting anyone head on? You know why? Because thieves can’t trade blow for blow, we’ll commit to a fight if we have the element of surprise on our side.
