Sorry, disregard most of previous post, it appears something about the Dragonbrand takes pressure off the graphics card and switches it (I am guessing) to the processor, atleast on my setup. If anything I have actually gained 5-10 fps in processor intensive areas like LA. World fps remains fairly unchanged.

New patch out today and TADAH, lost another 10-20 fps, 3D is a no go now and my GTX 660 Ti is actively clocking down in many areas (running about blazeridge steppes atm with the card falling to 1150 Mhz (vs the normal speed underneath)).

Looks like a standard PCI-E 3.0x slot running in idle. Do as Cbuzz says and if it doesn’t say PCI-E 3.0x 16 @x16 3.0 then something is up there.

Just an update on what I had submitted before. Out in the world my fps has returned to the kind of levels I would be happy with (although still 20 fps lower than I was before the patch a week ago) at about 70-100 fps in the world non 3d and 40-60 fps in 3d. I did install the new Nvidia drivers however they claimed that there was no fix for GW2 in them. The cities and settlements with many entities still cause rather significant fps reduction, despite my core i7 first gen processor (which is only about 15% slower than an equivalent clocked sandybridge processor) so there does appear to be a cpu utilization problem hanging around there.

However two big problems still linger that really detract from comfortable gameplay. First, when you rotate the camera 60-90 degrees the frame rates drop sharply, which even with a minimum fps of over 30 can still make the game jitter due to the huge discontinuity in frame rate. I checked my ram usage to see if there was a problem in loading textures but neither my 4gb of ddr3 ram or my 2gb of graphics card ram had gotten near their maximum (vsync and framerate limiter are off btw).

The second problem is likely more an nvidia driver problem but I will briefly mention it. In nvidia 3D mode, the game can report 40-60 fps (with my fraps agreeing with that measurement), but the UI will be lagging horrifically, acting as if it was at 5 fps. The movement of creatures on the screen would be smooth, but camera and mouse movements would be very jittery again preventing comfortable gameplay.

I know my issues with the game might seem very shallow compared to those who cannot play it at all, and I am sympathetic towards those people, but I think my insights are still important as all our problems stem from the same core engine issue.

Cheers, Rosh

“I have a pretty basic machine. i5-3570k stock, radeon 7950 , 8gb RAM, Crucial m4 SSD.”

None of that is basic. Pretty powerful modern gaming machine.

I have been keeping an eye on this thread. Since launch till 3-4 days ago I had fairly disappointing frame rates, about 40-50 fps at 1080p (max settings except for native sampling), 25-30 with Nvidia 3D. Then one of the patches 3-4 days ago bumped my fps up to 80-100, 50-70 with 3D, which seemed about right for my build. Unfortunately today’s patch has again brought me back down to the previous fps. Hopefully I can be returned to the lovely fps of a couple of days ago, looked great on my 120Hz LED panel.

306.02 Nvidia drivers
Creative X-Fi Sound.

Edit: Should also point out the game also seems ‘jittery’ now. Nasty fps spikes when the camera is moved. Game is playing on an OCZ Agility 3 120Gb SDD.
