Showing Posts For Rubik.2048:
GW2: run around casually picking flowers, killing some mobs along the way, doing some hearts, viewing some vistas. Come across an event, do it, a couple of people show up, do it with you. Go back to your frolicking after event is over.
HoT: run past every mob because some of them can 3 shot you even in full heavy ptv gear, only do events with 10+ people because the mobs are so obnoxious the only way they are worth the hassle is if you can upscale some of them to champs to get bags and spawn extra to tag them for more exp for masteries. Once event is over, hope you have someone who pins and moves the zerg to the next event. Otherwise, afk at an uncontested wp until an event starts.
it’s not a “get good” issue, the entire pacing of the game was changed.
This brought a smile to my face, very well put!
For the posters favoring the “learn to play” solution to the new content I can only say that is just far too simple and shortsighted.
GW2 has always been popular because it really is (was) “play how you like” – HoT has changed that considerably and I know I am not the only one frustrated by the problems already mentioned by others in this thread, the fun has gone.
Every game needs players regardless of its business concept and by basically changing the core game Anet presumably is hoping to attract a healthy player base of hard core players in large guilds capable of doing group content with their guild leaving those who prefer small guilds or soloing their way through the world rather out in the cold.
GW2’s strength was its ability to cater for most styles of play and I think they are taking a great risk of alienating many players who prefer the core concept of “play how you like” while failing to attract enough hard core gamers who prefer the new concept.
Time will tell, but of the multiple accounts in our family I am the only one who has upgraded to HoT and after seeing the content during the weekend I will remain the only one. No-one else has the slightest motivation for upgrading as we are all basically solo players who very rarely even can group up for dungeons because of our different work/family schedules.
Solo I’ve had some issues getting from Point A to B in some maps. Enemy density can be quite high in some areas of the maps. So its easy to get overrun if you are not very very careful. Especially if you are like me and want to look at the map and plan a path or get a bit confused on a path. Those couple of seconds the respawns can start popping.
Events is where I’m a bit bothered by. Even events not labeled as group events will either lead up to group events you can’t complete or is just overwhelming in enemy numbers that a solo person can struggle with it. And the amount of people I’ve seen oddly just run by an event I’m doing and not assist is more than I expected despite the need for exp.
Haven’t had too many issues getting people to complete HP when I get to them. But its a bit annoying to work you way to a spot and realize you need more people for sure. But I definitely see peoples fears for this system and trying to get HP completed on another character. I know I’m not looking forward to it.
Story is easy solo though. Haven’t had any issues at all there. But all the NPC assistance in a lot of the bigger fights is helpful as usual.
Would definitely agree with this.
From the weekend I spent playing in the new areas I am growing more and more disappointed with the realisation that this is just not meant for solo players.
When I did manage to find enough players doing an event I had one “reward” I think as normal and others with “x percentage participation” – even though I was present from the start to the end and can only conclude the one for say 60 pcnt participation was because I spent time running around ressing downed players? If that is so then that really would seem to defeat the idea of being a helpful group together.
Although I accept challenging content will lead to more deaths, I am bothered by the fact that there are so few WPs, getting killed time and time again trying to finally reach a new WP is just way beyond frustrating.
I absolutely would not be tempted to try any of my other characters in HoT, the fun just isn’t there for me.
im very frustrated because
the maps are stunning
the story is fine
the enemies, weapons, armors – all good to greatbut – the pathfinding, complicated maps, hero points and mastery grinding – its incredibly frustrating to me right now….especially cause i feel im running around for 2 hours only to achieve something worth 15 minutes…
and this is really a shame – cause it has so much great and beautiful stuff – but after hours of not finding stuff im ready to throw my keyboard into the screen
Exactly describes my own feelings…
ah, that explains it – thank you for reply
I created (and played) a Beta character for the Beta weekends but noticed after this weeks update that it is missing from my character list, I now just have 4 empty Beta create spots instead of 3 empty and 1 created. With another Beta weekend to go I can only assume this is a bug, or is it the intention for everyone taking part in the Beta weekends to create another character for the coming weekend?
Could we please have a confirmation box before being whisked away to another (uncontested waypoint) so we are given the chance to cancel ?
