If Anet came up with a system to monetize WvW (gems or sub) while giving it more attention. Would you pay for it? Discuss.

Bg being stacked is true. But it also has one of the best wvw communities that make it fun. That’s probably the main reason people come and choose to stay.

As a roamer who helps with Zerg pushes now and then, I still regularly see people on bg a few years ago still active in wvw.

Dear Anet,

I know previously you have mentioned that WvW seasons causes burnout. I would like to suggest perhaps bringing back some form of WvW tournament would lure back the people who left. Maybe with some unique skins to go with it.

Personally I know a ton of guys and girls who were previously wvw fans that left for other games due to the staleness of the game mode, they would definitely come back and give it a try again if seasons was reinstated.

Season 2 was I’m sure some of the best Wvw action most of us players have ever experienced for a realm v realm game. Bring back the love!

Great vid Slynn! May I ask why sword over scepter?

Hi Adonisis!

This is strictly my own personal opinion (play what you have the most fun with is what i think people should do).

I have a sword/pistol, scepter/torch/shield build that’s better than this one for 1v1s.

However for WvW roaming when you can have adds jump in anytime, scepter is just too slow.

When you’re fighting against 2 or 3 people (of which 1 or 2 of them are roamers themselves, not zergers),

1) scepter 3 (confusing images) just leaves you wide open to get bursted down.
2) scepter block can proc on a pet or some random clone so its not very handy.
3) scepter auto attack is still too slow and leaves you wide open as well

Sword on the other hand,

1) blurred frenzy allows you temporary evasion (sorta, gotta dodge or stealth or blink after you finish though)
2) the best thing about sword is actually ileap. mobility on the battlefield when vs multiple targets help a lot. Catching and immobilizing targets is good too.
3) sword auto attack is pretty meh, but 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.

In 1v1s though scepter can be pretty good if there are no clones/pets. But theres no fair fight in WvW. If i had a silver everytime i got ganked in WvW i’d be able to buy Tyria by now

Unfortunately, i only do WvW. I think there should be people who are better suited to make sPvP videos though feel free to experiment with the build and try it out in sPvP!

Are there any stat can be a good alternative instead traiblazer ? that set is really painful to craft.

Hmm trailblazer is good but I think dire/rabid would work too if you wanted to just try it out!

I made the build to be responsive fighting multiple targets. not everyone in wvw has good condition removal, so I found increasing condition duration with expertise really great to ‘thin the group’ so to speak.

As for why precision in rabid, I like having high amounts of bleeds, torment and confusion concurrently after the burst. Helps with enemies that can only clear 1 or 2 conditions at a time. But that’s personal preference.

Yea its mainly a WvW build, not applicable atm to sPvP. But hands down fun. Gotta watch the timings for the interrupts. Funny enough it works better when you’re fighting more than 1 person.

One of the earlier reasons i took moa was to get rid of necros fast. Can’t have fights drag on when adds might jump in anytime.

I think inspiration is a great line, but there wasn’t any space if i wanted to be more offensive. I would love to have the condi cleanse and heal on shatter if i could!

And if you’re roaming remember to save your blink for escape! May the odds be ever in your favor.

I got the footage over 2-3 days, there were tons of fights that were good but stuff like a zerg suddenly running in really had my inner director yelling “cut! cut!”. Then of course there were times where i forgot to switch on the camera….

Fixed Video not showing in certain countries.

Dear Anet,

I’ve been playing since launch and currently am only doing WvW content. I feel (right or wrong you would know), that there are many others like me who feel the end game of Guild Wars 2 is in fact, WvW. It is also my strong belief that the WvW’ers tend to be more passionate about Guild Wars 2, more so than those who like the themepark PvE.

Now, first off i would like to say Anet you made a really good game (we wouldn’t still be playing or posting on the forums if we didn’t love it). There are plenty of issues that still need to be worked out and no game is perfect even after 1 year of launch, however in this post i would like to focus on WvW.

Me and many other WvW’ers i know have been playing this game for free a couple of months now. It is not because we are stingy old men, but because there has been a lack of attention to monetize us WvW’ers as a group.

Put short, in my opinion (echoed by the friends i know) you have a good sized, passionate player base who are dying for WvW improvements, and will gladly pay for it. It is saddening to see month after month of PvE updates, almost nothing for WvW.

Here are a couple of my suggestions,

- Dueling tokens (more a pvpish idea)

I know the default answer is “you can duel in spvp”. Well, like it or not, people much prefer to use their PvE / WvW gear + food to duel. Even optimizing spvp trinkets (which have terrible stat distributions imo) will do little to change this attitude.

Let us pay for dueling tokens to be only used once the other side has accepted the duel. Let the duels include 2v2s, and 3v3s. Tokens can be sold in batches of 5 or 10.

If coding geography is a problem, make the obsidium sanctum a place where you can duel people from your own server. I know my guild would have a ball of a time doing 3v3s or 4v4s against each other.

For those that hate duel invitations, give them a option to auto-reject duel requests.

- Give us more WvW related items instead of asking us to PvE

You know the banner potion that you can get with guild commendations? Well a couple of us would pay gems for those.

Guild commendations are extremely hard for any WvW guild to collect. Especially if your guild consists of working adults where coordination of a login time is tough.

Also, there’s no way currently to get ascended items if you don’t like crafting. Ascended weapons add almost a 5% increase in damage. And believe me, a lot of us hate the crafting system and PvE. Give us WvW’ers a way to receive these items to put us on par with the rest.

- Realise whats great about WvW

When you’re outnumbered 3v6 and win, its a rush.
When you have a prolonged fight 5v5 in a camp and your side prevails, its a rush.

The combat mechanics in this game perform very well for small skirmishes. You know your team won because of your individual effort.

When you’re with a 50 man zergball rolling into another 50 man zerg ball, its really not as fun as skirmishing. Thats what T1 looks like now.

There are many people who are looking for the next DAOC. Give them a reason to stay.

Do not give any incentives to form a 50 man zerg ball. Create an environment where there are more skirmishes. Let us spend gems on Arena entry, duel tokens, more guild-orientated cosmetic items, guild halls, etc.

WvW’ers love to be competitive, we love bragging rights. Create a ranking system for which guild takes the most towers / keeps, most kills in a week, etc. Make us competitive with each other.

How about a 8v8 death match tournament every week in a certain section of WvW. Schedule it near the end of a match-up. We would love to watch and place our own bets! The prize can be bragging rights (so it doesn’t disrupt the economy, something cosmetic).

Divert more resources to service and ask questions to your most passionate player base.

Encourage and build an environment for them to constantly experience WvW the way they love and i believe you will be surprised how much more gems you can milk from us

Thanks What you can do is grab celestial helm, coat and leggings first as they’ll give the most bump for stats. Alternatively i believe full rabid gear also works with this build. I just like to have a bit more vit/power to even things out a bit.

Yes i did (swapping out Chaotic Dampening X) for a few fights against 2-3 guys. Most of the time i had 5 might stacks throughout the entire engagement, 10 stacks was seldom, and 15 stacks was very rare (2-3 seconds).

Clone generation wasn’t an issue as the difference between staff 2 and 3 without chaotic dampening was negligible. Chaos storm cd from 28secs to 36 secs was quite noticable for me as when i swapped weapons chaos storm was always still on cooldown (sorta broke my rhythm).

I think bountiful interruptions would be great if it was an even fight, but for 1vX when 3 guys are trying to hit you, i’d still prefer chaotic dampening with 20% cd on all staff skills than 5-10 stacks of might… Very close call though.

With 25 condi stacks, guard leech and applied fort you can roughly get the numbers i use.

The only trait i can afford to switch with bountiful interrupt is Chaotic Dampening (X) given that PU and Debilitating Dissipation are vital to me.

I normally try to shorten my cds for all my skills whenever possible so clone generation is high. But bountiful interrupt sounds like something viable too, giving it a try now to weight the trade-off :p

This is a 10/30/30 hybridish phant build with celestial armour/weapons + rabid trinkets/back

Try to aim for 1500 power and 1500 condi damage, 50% crit chance and 60% crit damage. (with full buffs and food)

Pretty much modified this for 1vX and teamfights. Its a strong build, easy to play, and most importantly really fun.

My favourite build is still a shatter build though. Only problem is shatter is very sensitive to lag.

GS has nice damage. Great in group fights, strong phantasm, good auto attack.

Staff on the other hand is a must if you want to fight 1vX against semi competent enemies. If you have any melee class (most common being thief lol) on you and you just switched to the greatsword (thus a 9sec cd before you switch back), its GG. Its also very easy to tell which mesmer is real when you’re using the GS auto attack.

So i’d suggest staff for solo roaming, gs for when you’re in a group! Both are nice weapons.
