(outside of GW2) I had the most fun PvPing in Diablo2 and DAoC. Both of these titles were solid. Combat in both games was comprised of 2-4 buttons. The difference between the victor and the defeated came in the form of reaction speed, positioning and preparation.
What I’m saying is that we don’t need a huge amount of depth in the combat system. Actually if it’s less, then non-GW2 players may be able to understand it and have fun watching it. What separates the best in any game for the most part are the factors I mentioned above.
I like the enthusiasm of the GW2 staff and support them in their continuous effort to cater to their fans and community!
Aussie is throwing down the gauntlet with his sample. Who’s going to pick it up?!
Good initiative. Also, it’s worth registering your guild at mistleague.com as we’re working kitten implementing the LFG system there. Check back for updates!
When viewing PvP battles through spectator mode or even as a player, it is difficult to see how many and which buffs a player has. It would be helpful to increase or decrease a graphical glow based on the amount of buffs a player has, and list, but remove the animations to remove clutter.
I don’t see a negative effect to this change, as no matter what buffs/conditions a player has, there isn’t a skill in the game that targets specific ones, so all a player can do is either wait it out, or steal/cure them without discrimination.
This change would help players know when to use their buff stealing abilities, and when to avoid or attack a player better. It would also make it more enjoyable to watch, instead of trying to decipher each buff animation and what it means.
I hope this idea helps a bit.

I do agree we need a more exciting game mode.
As far as eSports goes – have patience – big things in the works this summer =)
lets not tell people that there are computers out there, so some still use pens and typewriters to do their work.
telling everyone there are computers will kill diversity in the written word.
I think more modes is important to have. perhaps a capture the flag or whatever will end up being the most popular mode.
WoW had AV first and WSG, but eventually AB came along and it was better, then arenas ended up being the thing to play.
you never know till u introduce it. forcing players to play a specific game type isn’t going to improve the community.
whenever you force/restrict someone to do something, you generally get the opposite. so restricting pvp to one type may end up losing most of the player base.
just my 2cp.
bushido, good points.
I’m now disappointed and depressed after reading your very good and informative post with some very good points.
I enjoy the game, but I can see how it isn’t a good candidate at this point in time.
it’s really up to us. I personally would like to see some competition going, so I’m thinking when opportunity presents, I can fork out a bit of cash and collaborate with someone to kick off a real money tournament.
it doesn’t matter what the player base is. it doesn’t matter what the viewership is. pro football was non-existent until someone put up some cash and organized a league.
if you build it they will come.
I know that pros chase money, and if we put some up, even if it’s a small amount – people will come out of retirement to play for a day and swoop it.
I’m thinking of doing this. I also encourage other people with businesses or something to promote to work with the casters of the gw2 community and make something happen.
cheers!
I was going to argue with you and defend downed state, but then I read your quiz, and I realized that you are right. The game would probably be better without it. Rezing is good, but too many cons. They should just invest in death animations =). I can’t imagine anyone prefers playing from their downed state than upstate.
i’d play, but less often. Climbing up a ladder helps track progress, and I enjoy moving up or down depending on my performance.
I played UT2004 for a very long time, and the only satisfaction there is killing blows =)
