Context: I’m a fairly new player that hasn’t even gotten a character to 80 yet, and I’ve only really done PVE / Questing / Exploring.

Quick note on pets:

  • Love ’em. LOVE them. I really dig that three of the four have combo fields on their F2. I love comboing with my pet as a Ranger.
  • The Electric Wyvern has a combo field on its F2, but that doesn’t show up in the tooltip; it should
  • The Fire Wyvern’s F2 animation was incredible, but it was WAAAAAY too slow. I counted 14 seconds between pressing the button and getting field active. It’s pretty rare that anything in this game stays in one place and alive for that long. I don’t mind a little wind-up, but it’d probably feel better if the combo field showed up as soon as the lava animation did.

Given the context, maybe Druid isn’t really for me; I don’t really see a need for a dedicated healer the way I play the game. That said:

  • I really liked the “3” skill. Dash + blast finisher is super fun if you can time it right (the timing is a little bit wonky because of the delay after the dash)
  • 1 & 2 felt uninteresting. I tend toward melee weapons because 1&2 with most range weapons powers tend to feel like “1: shoot; 2: shoot a little harder with a CD” and the staff was no exception.
  • I don’t … really … get the Celestial form thing. It seems like a nice “OH NOES” button for group play, but running around the world solo I can’t figure out when I would ever press it; I REALLY missed behing able to weapon swap while it was active.
  • Found myself wishing the staff was a one-handed weapon so that I could mix in other ranger weapons. Rangers could really use another Main Hand weapon, especially a ranged one (the Axe auto pulls everything like it or not)
  • In general I found the Druid skills to feel a bit stapled to Ranger; when I didn’t have the staff equipped I didn’t feel like a druid, and nothing in the druid specialization really synergizes with the other specializations. Maybe this is a bit of my naivette, but I felt a lot more like a dual-spec character in wow (like a Ret/Holy paladin) than I did a cohesive character.
