Its rotational blocks/invulns can be up about 80% of the time during a fight. The impressive part is they don’t have to give up much DPS to get that. The DH builds are already difficult to melee much less having to wait for a tiny window to open so a player can do damage. It is the strongest low skill floor build IMO. Guardians can be kited. That isn’t an option with most DH builds. Their Virtues are simply stupid good.
Don’t exaggerate – it is obvious you are qq’ing as a thief which most other players only have a tiny window of killing. The blocks/invulns you talk about have a long cast time that can be interrupted very easily and they all have a very long cd. Worst part is that except for shield of courage, which doesn’t block from the back, you can’t deal damage while using the blocks/invulns so not as effective as you are trying to make it out to be. It is like saying thief has 90% blocks/invulns because they are in stealth for that amount of time.
Classes that allow skill spamming are easily the most low skilled and the strongest low skill floor of them all is a thief running perma evade or spamming stunlock. Oh, I stuffed up, let’s spam another skill or stealth out – initiative uptime is not even remotely an issue. I’ve played this class enough to know how easy it is and DH are never an issue – I run power stunlock when using thief in case you were wondering.
You’re obviously good at maths.. but only with the basics. If you think you’re really capable at maths, solve the following:
Assuming:
WvW 1v1
Guardian Level 80
Full ascended amour/amulet/trinkets/rings/ + legendary greatsword
Any choice of jewels/runes/sigils/ + WvW infusions
No core or elite specialisations
State any additional assumptions you require.
Question:
If you do not use any skills including heal or signets/virtues and are not seeking to deal damage to your opponent, what is the optimal mix of vitality and toughness and what amour/weapon/etc stats would your need to equipment achieve those numbers?
And yes, there is a correct answer.
1) My team takes SM. A single PU mesmer runs around perma stealth until righteous indignation times out then ports in a zerg and retakes SM. I want to know what you think is a reasonable counter to that which doesn’t involve wasting 10+ mins of 5+ players time searching for a player we only periodically see for half a second.
If a mesmer uses all of its stealth spells to avoid you, it times out after 56 seconds, leaving the mesmer vulnerable for another 8-10 seconds because of cooldowns, some much longer than that (which is a long time if you’re being chased).
Are you serious because I can’t tell? You think 8-10 seconds is enough to cover searching SM? The funniest part is that you think you can locate a mesmer just when they come out of stealth to chase them when they have 56 secs of invisible time which is enough to hide in just about any corner of SM.
Most mesmers successfully flip objectives because people aren’t patient enough to count to 60.
What rubbish. The simple fact is that on an ongoing and consistent basis teams of 5-10 players are wasting 5-10+ mins purging 1 single PU mesmer in SM every time there is one hiding around.
I’ll happily answer any questions you may have,
So then, answer this for me.

2) Thief comes in for a 1v1 fight. Loses. Gets revenge by coming back and harassing me – stealth, hits me, arrow shadowstep, stealth and goes out of range. Repeats again and again until I can’t take it anymore and port back home. I roam fine for a while until he/she eventually finds me again and repeats the harassment. Show me how that can be countered – until then, stealth is broken, full stop.
I’ve found pvp success. Just drop em in a group in randomly well travelled paths, go to objective, return for someone who got 100-0d instantly. Profit?
Not frequent enough to make it worthwhile..
Stealth is fine, the problem is that some classes/builds do to much w/o sacrificing to much.
Which means that it is not fine.. Anything open to rampant abuse is a problem. Capture a castle with a PU mesmer inside an you end up wasting 10+ mins with team of 5+ just to rid the place of one pita.
While in stealth, condition damage and duration decrease by half — the most logical fix.
No, the most logical fix is that conditions should drop off completely if the mesmer enters stealth. Mesmer disappears = Conditions disappears.
Title of the thread reads ‘Longbow Confirmed’.. Is this really confirmed or still just speculation based on the short clip?
It’s a false positive.
I don’t think it is.
Yesterday AVG picked up the trojan and isolated gw2.exe in its vault. I initially thought it was a false positive and returned the gw2.exe file back to the game directory and played as normal.
Today I found a spam email in my mailbox coming from an email address “one_of_my_character’s_name @yahoo.com”. There is no way anyone (except ANET) would have linked the character named to my email unless some spammer somehow got hold of my details from gw2.
This is getting me worried and I hope ANET is looking into urgently as it is a real security issue.
