Primer, you said this was an account bound issue?
I believe that to be false. Go ahead, test for yourself..
Rather, I bet you its either your computer, or your position in the network.
You can test which by placing a 3rd party computer in your computers spot, and see if the issue persists… from there, you can work towards a solution…
Only if it were reeaally account bound, should you do nothing but ask of ANet.
ps. my guess is that most ppl here probably have an issue with their internet, but they just don’t realize it. – happened to me too
There is no general fix, otherwise you’d have it by now.
This issue is client side, take a little initiative, won’t you?
There’s 3 different solutions on this page alone, try them…

My disconnect issue is solved, here’s the rundown..
~Cause~
- My sister’s bittorrent was eating all the bandwidth
~Symptoms~
- Noticeable frequent disconnects in GW2, AO & when streaming a movie
~Solution~
- I explained the situation to my sister. She must’ve fixed it, cause I’ve had no issues since.
One way to test whether the issue is specific to GW2 or not is to stream a movie.
Myself, I cannot stream a full movie without the stream stopping many times throughout.
ps. I’ve narrowed down my disconnect issue to my sister using too much bandwidth. Will keep you guys updated.
I asked a friend to help, here’s his reply:
I can certainly help you out as best I can.
We first have to isolate if the problem is in your house or outside of your house.
I’m going to assume your router is okay because you’ve been using that router for a while and its proven to work okay.
Here’s some initial questions I have.
Is there a difference between cable and wifi speeds?
Has this problem been happening for a while?
Is there an event that you noticed where this started occurring?
Inside your house issues:
- Try to figure out if either your or Kay’s computer is eating up the bandwidth behind the scenes. Keep both machines off, then try a third computer and speed test the network
- Try using only wifi or try only cable
- You might even be able to bypass the router by just plugging directly into your modem, so check your speed without a router between you and the internet.
Issues outside your house:
Basically all these issues go through your ISP to troubleshoot.
- Choose a couple consistent times for a week to check your speeds…like noon and midnight everyday for a week. Record the speeds for upload and download. I would use speedtest.net (checks speed) and pingtest.net (checks quality)
- After you’ve gathered that info, it would be a good time to call your ISP and let them know your issues with the speed. Since they own the cable to your house, it their responsibility to uphold the contract.
- They can often run tests from their side to also check the speeds.
This gives you a good starting point.
Let me know how it goes!
Today, someone came by and fixed the internet. I’ll keep you guys updated once I know more.
quick update: actually, he only fixed the phones

I think my situation might be similar actually. The phones don’t work properly, and I’ve noticed issues beyond GW2 and AO…
I think I’ll try the solution listed just above^
~~~Windows 7 Disconnect Issue~~~
~Caused by ALL of the following~
- Using Windows 7
- Having X game turned on . . . (after downloading a certain patch for said game?)
- Time? . . . (aka happens every now and then for no apparent reason)
~Possible Solutions~
- ClientPort 80 . . . – if someone finds a link, please post it
- New OS
- New Game . . . (BLASPHEMY :O)
- Ask game-side to fix the patch which caused the issue . . . (first be absolutely certain that the patch is causing the issue)
- Discover the unknown variable . . . (in place of Time)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
If anyone has anything to add, please feel free.
Please confirm, have you tried playing after turning off all other devices on your network (both cabled, and wireless) ?
The moment my sister gets home… I get disconnect hell… Every single ****ing time…
It ain’t no coincidence.
Edit: There is no doubt in my mind that this issue is connected to another person on the network. Unfortunately, I cannot test beyond my own computer.. If anyone can test further, that’d be great..
Assuming that this issue is not yet resolved, I will share my experiences to help those still struggling..
In GW2, I experienced occassional frequent disconnects
In AO, I experienced the exact same issue.
It didn’t happen every day, but when it did happen, I noticed my sister was home (which is somewhat rare).
I read on a forums that the issue was known as Win 7 issue.
Annoyed with the disconnects, I tried to find a solution.
Upon changing a few settings in properties for the game, I soon noticed that the disconnects had stopped.
I concluded that it was the Compatibility mode, since that made the most sense.
Today, the game(AO) was patched, and I started to get disconnected again.
I turned off compatibility mode, and it has been over an hour without a single disconnect. I assume its fixed…
ps. I use Windows 7, compatibility mode is set to XP (SP3), and I may have solved a huge issue for Microsoft completely for free… well thats life Dx , at least you guys are happy
TL;DR
If frequent disconnects, then try this: toggle Compatibility Mode once
.
Solution:Use compatibility mode
Use compatibility mode, problem solved.
If you are using Windows 7 and are currently sharing your internet speed, you may be at risk for frequent disconnects.
Please call a doctor and ask for Zodack. Over the counter medication. symptoms include pain, congestion, and possible death.
But seriously, Windows 7 + Unknown variable (related to another person on your network) = Frequent Disconnects
Correct me if I’m wrong, or tell me if I’m right.
This is not an issue on GW2’s end, I guarantee you that. Other games have same issue.
I just noticed this exact same disconnect issue in a completely different game.. (atlantica online)
win7… how i frown upon thee..
I have this disconnect issue too. For me, it only seems to happen when the server is busy, or during certain times of the day.
This past week, I’ve only had this issue once or twice. If this is your doing Anet, thank you.
For those that still have the issue, when you notice the disconnects starting, just take a break and come back later. The disconnects happen in spurts, and you definitely don’t wanna play through the spurt now do you?
