Yes I know it’s after Christmas, but I went to my letterbox this afternoon and lo, behold, a Christmas card from arena net. I live in Australia so obviously it took longer to arrive.
I giggled when I opened it and had to post a thank you. You made my day which was otherwise terrible so thank you Arenanet, I appreciate the thought.

I play alone, mostly because most guilds are filled with drama ( a few I have been in its been extreme, like most people dont have fun unless they are causing issues ) but mostly its because I dont have the time to do things that guilds entail, nor do I have the patience to be told what to do and when. Maybe one day I will join a guild again but not for the long forseeable future. Besides most things pugs are good for anyhow.
Exactly. I played three games and figured out the game and now place anywhere from first to third in 7+ player races. The mini game isn’t hard at all sadly no reason people can’t earn it. This isn’t World of Warcraft. Earn your stuff by trying instead of having it given.
It’s not easy for everyone. In some cases, not easy purely due to factors outside of their control like latency.
I don’t think it was meant to be easy for everyone, that’s why it’s not required for the meta event. That being said, I can certainly understand the frustration of not being able to get an achievement point. I personally am having trouble with some of the kite ones. But I will continue to try and work at it, and everyone should try and work at the things they struggle with so they can get better at it. What’s the point of playing the game if you just get everything handed to you?
You obviously dont get it Bluesoda so I am going to spell it out to you VERY plainly. Not everyone can “earn” that achievement because not everyone is sitting next to the server like you. Those of us who are oceanic find this mini-game impossible with all the rubber banding so hear me finally when I say, helping others is never bad, especially those who have terrible ping rates. Me being in Australia the closest I have ever come and this is in 35 games is 5th. My latency makes it Impossible. I know many many others who are very thank full to those willing to help and you can say all you like that I didn’t “earn” it but its too bad. You can whine and complain that other people are getting shiny things that you had to :“laugh”: work for, but in the end it is a true testament to those who do hold back at the finish line as they understand not all of us can actually do the run. We can not improve our ping rates, we cannot work to make it better.
Mesmer Portals should be disabled for JP’s or the Mesmer portal nerfed so it is harder/impossible to use in JP’s.
Why??
Because it makes jumping achievements pointless, ie…no achievement at all really, for the Mesmer who did the JP and all the players mesmers portal to the end.
Mesmers often demand payment as well…which causes trouble…
Also, Mesmer portal has been abused in loads of different ways and its one of those skills Anet have trouble designing content around because of exploits from Mesmer portal…
Everyone should do JP’s by you know jumping…they will get a better sense of achievement when they do…
I saw some of this “Demand for payment or begging for payment” today. I am a mesmer, not once have I ever hinted I wanted a tip nor would I have the choice take one. I was sickened by the people saying " Will port for gold" or " Portal to goggles 3 gold " or my favorite " I loooove tips if you want a portal" . Really really turned my stomach. So when I see this I just go up and port for free. I have no intention of charging someone for something that took me two seconds to do. I must of portaled about 70 people today in the space of 4 hours. All I ever expect is a ty! and most of the time I don’t get that..
At the end of it all, its called a “Personal Achievement” for a reason. What other people do to attain their personal achievement as long as they aren’t cheating or exploiting to get it ( which mesmer portals are neither ) then it should be no skin off your back. Seriously, stop being a busy body and mind your own business. Not being rude, but you will be much happier.
You ported people who were trying to do JP not rudely asking for it.
Actually there was this one bloke who had no idea where the jumping puzzle was, nor how to do the buffs, nor where to jump that basically demanded that I drop about 1100 feet to help him. I explained how to do it and what to do then yes, I did drop down and help the guy.. Then he fell off.. I had explained I needed to go but there he was " Can you port me " Ughh.. so I did then promptly logged after he fell off the second time. /facepalm. I had explained I needed to go before this but he didn’t seem to understand that. So no, not all the people were nice or not rude about it. I still will help for the most part though.

Alright normally I don’t respond to posts, just a lurker. I vehemently disagree with the OP.
First off, I spent two bloody hours on that JP. Either the lightning jump would glitch, overshoot ( and yes before you say anything I do know how to use the thing ) or drop out too early. I was near my wits end until a kind charr ported me. My latency being in Australia makes most if not all jumping puzzles near impossible for me so I was thankful to say the least.
So you know what I did… I started porting those I had been jumping with for the last hours, and kept porting people whether they needed it or not. I paid it forward and all this whining because others want things easy is bullkitten. I never would have finished that JP without that charr, and I dare say quite a few wouldn’t of finished it without me. I think it promotes community. It did for me. I do understand however about people crying for a mesmer but I also understand the frustration of that bloody JP / abilities that dont work properly. Sure there are people who just want to get something for nothing, but Im not one of them.
Well I wanted to say thank you to Guild wars as the last weeks my head has been stuffed each day I log on. I wondered if you all noticed the log in music has a striking resemblance to “In the Navy” By the Village People. It kills me every morning I now have it stuck in my head..
Wow, every post argueing in favor of portals in this thread is being posted by mesmers. Those mesmers are immediately and vociferously attacking anyone who posts in support of my OP. I think this is very telling. I think that you know that portals are breaking the game and trivializing content. I think you know that you are wrong. I think that is why you are so aggressive. I think you just want to have your liscence to steal at any cost.

What are you a warrior? one of those classes that runs like they are going through molasses. I am not being aggressive. You are. I simply stated why I do portal those others and why I take portals once in a while. How about looking at the actual parts of my post besides when I said I was a mesmer. My main is a Necro for heavens sake. I think its rare to find someone without a mesmer in their line up.. Well, that is besides you obviously. We p o r t a l people because they need help, I take portals cos my latency sucks. Simple as. No amount of whining on your part is going to change anything.
Okay, I get it, you play mesmers. That explains the vabid defense of the portals on your part. Do note that it is not my stated desire to have portals removed from the game, but rather altered to still be viable and desirable skills, without allowing others access to rewards they did not earn. I even made a suggestion to that effect in my OP.
Who cares if they are mesmers? First off I disagree with your OP. I don’t think there is anything wrong with mesmers using something they were GIVEN to their advantage. The JP in metrica province is so buggy that thankfully there was someone there to portal people.
Months and months golems lab has been reported over and over as almost unplayable and when I did it I nearly tore my hair out. I, before you assume, am a mesmer. Plus the fact that I’m from Australia and my latency counts me out of anything precision wise, then I’m thankful for my brothers and sisters in arms that shell me out a portal once in a while. I do try jumping them on my own each and every time but just some of them are so precision driven thakittens impossible for people in my area to do it.
I also have portalled people to the end many a time for nothing just because I think that those who have mobility issues ( jumping in game or otherwise ) should get a hand up. How is that bad. I’m sorry that this ruins it for YOU, but then YOU don’t have to take the portal do you. Its a choice.
Oh and it’s Licence btw.. Basic language skills.. ftw.
Title says it all. Every upgrade we had worked for and bought with in game gold, gone. We transferred from Crystal Desert to Dragonbrand and had the chance to look. No guild bank nothing. I don’t mind stuff being gone from that, it doesn’t matter but all those unlocks is driving me mad. There was not one warning in the transfer process that this would happen. Any and all help would be appreciated. Tx.
