Staff Marks and Critical Hit Question

in Necromancer

Quick questions about how Marks and Critical hits work. I watched the build tutorials and was left with a few questions.

If I put a mark down, and say 3 enemies step in it:

1. If I get lucky can I get a critical hit on all 3? (Just the damage, I know the bleeding does not crit.)
2. If so, if I have a Superior Sigil of Fire (or equivalent) do I have a chance of it going off on any of them? I know it wouldn’t trigger 3 times, but is it only possible to be triggered on the closest enemy?
3. If I switch off of staff with my marks still down, and then an enemy steps on it does it use the sigils from my staff, or my alternate set?

Thanks in advance!

Let us pay a one-time fee to change trait points anywhere.

The quick summary:

Problem: While changing trait points is a simple process, it is very inconvenient and the current set-up discourages experimentation with different trait lines.

Suggestion: Let players pay for an account bound book that enables you to change trait points anywhere outside of combat. Make the book about 50 silver to a gold and have it available from trainers. Once used the book allows you to always change trait points outside of combat anywhere they want. The book would only have to be used once to unlock this perk. This would not overwrite the need to buy the apprentice, master and grandmaster books.

The longer summary:

As I was halfway through a difficult cave the other day I realized that my current trait line that was focused on precision wasn’t working. I already had the toughness line slotted, but I really needed the vitality or power line to get past where I was. The current system tells you too bad, you should have known that you would stumble on this hidden cave and decide to see where it leads. I felt if I could have changed my traits I would have had a better chance of finding out what was there.

The idea of Guild Wars has always been about skill and preparing yourself for the challenge right in front of you. Every other aspect of the game allows you to change your set-up to meet the challenges except for the trait point system. Weapon not working, change it. Skill not working, change it. Trait feat not working, change it. Trait line however…

Imagine you are a guardian in the middle of a dungeon. You know a tough boss is coming. It’s time to put away the two-hander and get your mace out. Too bad you have to leave the dungeon, find a trainer, get the right line that helps mace and shield, and then go all the way back. Yes, you could have just used mace and shield the whole time but that forces you into a role that you may not want/need to play for the entire session.

I know changing traits is a gold sink that is needed in the game to keep the economy strong. With the current system of changing traits for a couple of silver I may change 3 or 4 times over the course of a character’s life, spending perhaps 10 silver. I will not change unless I really need to since I would rather be in the world having fun, then constantly running to town to experiment. By paying a fee for the privilege, you still have a gold sink in the game, and allows me to have more fun. I would gladly pay for this perk.

This would also be relatively easy to implement, since you have a system where you can reset the trait points in the heart of the mists. By using the book you just make it so that you can do this anywhere.

By giving players the option of changing trait points on the fly you still have a gold sink in the game, it is not overpowering, will lead to more weapons being used based on the current situation, dungeons will become more fun, and if someone doesn’t want to pay for this privilege they can still use the old system of going back to town and changing for a cheap fee.

TL;DR: Let us pay for the option to change traits anywhere.

Thanks!
