Me and my friend have this problem occurring to us as well, when neither one of us have had this ever happen before.
All sound in the game just goes silent while this weird sound keeps playing for a while before the entire game freezes up.
Seems to happen to us mostly during Claw of Jormag events.
Hope ANET fixes this fast…
