pretty useless imo! low damage and crap utility. a proposed change:
allow the #5 skill to be channeled alongside other abilities – e.g., continue your sword #1 autoattack chain while channeling #5. (I actually doubt the tech exists to do this since there are no examples of it already, so in theory only…)
suggest using guanglai kangyi’s build: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/79899-the-ultimate-guardian-build/page__st__210
massive damage, spam VoJ between mobs for blinds.
I personally would consider dropping the points in valor for 10 in virtues and picking up Unscathed Contender; the amount of blinds you can spam with sword/focus and careful dodges should allow you to kill mobs without taking a hit (and without losing your aegis) making farming even faster.
If you go to Orr farming solo in full zerg gear, you are gonna have a bad time. Knights gear is more effective and you can solo a lot more mobs at once.
strongly disagree. post-nerf Orr doesnt pose much of a threat; use zerker gear and a DPS spec to make it faster and more fun (more risk!).

Mine is probably objectively the best sword/anything build out there. You’ll probably do okay with that other one as well, but your DPS won’t be as good.
guanglai I’m using your build and really enjoying it, but trying to bring a tiny bit of the defensive support from Red Falcon’s build (the other one linked) where I can. I’m using a shield as my off-hand and a staff as my weapon swap – what’s your preferred secondary weapon? also, have you changed your views on whether dropping anything to get 5 into Virtues is worth it? with my boon-duration stacking runes I’m wondering if 5 virtues would have more party benefit than the valor points, for instance.
Leveling: Greatsword / Staff. GS for the sustained damage and “ease of use”, staff for tagging in big dynamic events and constant swiftness.
traits to aim for:
15 radiance + 5 virtues: allows you to spam virtue of justice before pulling each mob, giving yourself might and blinding/burning the mob.
20 honor: for reduced cooldown on 2h weapon abilities, and shout cooldown reduction.
I’d suggest using shouts as your utilities, retreat/save yourselves/hold the line are a good combo for leveling.
hey all,
pve (dungeon, fractal, and solo) guardian here. been getting bored with the standard 0/0/30/30/10 EM/AH build recently and wanting to try some new stuff!
my new experiment is a 1-handed sword Monk’s Focus build. 0/30/30/5/5, main features being spammable VoJ for the blind and might stacks, right-handed strength, and healing meditation skills. I’m wearing a 70/30 split of berserkers/knights gear, with all ruby jewels.
my damage stats are great, but the problem this build has is a lack of HP… I’m slightly under 12k due to having zero vitality gear, and only 5 points in honor where you’d typically find 30. I only switched over to this build last night. I love the damage, versatility, and fast pace of all the meditations, but I’m wondering if that low HP is going to get me into trouble in fractals at higher levels etc. An Orr temple boss 1-shot me last night and got me thinking this could be a problem…
just curious to hear thoughts about HP totals and how little is too little.
