Thank you! – had just switched to Daphoenix’ d/d build and was planning on running it w staff, but will look at some serious staff builds and go back to evil-monster d/d later on…
thanks for the tips on tailoring and exotics. I’ll head out and get a Black Lion Salvage Kit asap.
and then back to the BL
many thanks

Is there no PVP way to grind gear as in WoW? (I realise the game is entirely different, but I’d rather assumed the ‘PVP only’ route was possible?)
thanks, though…

Can I ask an idiot question here, since it’s a newb thread and I might not be assassinated for being an idiot? (I’m a refugee from wow and it’s taking a while to get used to different game mechanics)
So: This is about getting PVP gear. I dinged 80 last night, leveled the last 12 levels by going 0-400 in tailoring and artifice on the basis that I could craft my own gear armour/staff/focus and only have to buy the daggeres (ele: d/d seems mandatory atm if not running staff support).
Most of the rest of the time, I was running with the zerg as a staff ele, following the instructions above – use boons/healing, res everyone, try not to die too often, keep a focus in the kit and use it when possible, give speed buffs, yadda, yadda, yadda.
I’ve come out with a handful of Badges of Honour but that’s it as far as gear goes. I haven’t finished my ‘story’ line yet – and, crucially, have never been near a dungeon. I grew to loathe dungeons in wow and avoided them like the plague and have every intention of doing the same here.
BUT – if I stay in the Wv3, how the kitten am I supposed to gear up? I have the yellow rare gear that I crafted, but it’s not going to impress anyone for long and I haven’t worked out yet how to get the jewels/runes/everything else for PVP.
Can someone enlighten me? Or point me to the info-posts?
thanks

Whereas for levelling (and I will be shot down in flames for this, doubtless), I read a bunch of posts that said sceptre/ dagger was the kitten and… it is. More defenses (earth 2 is an earth shield, saving you a cantrip and/or 10 points in earth that you really want in arcane line or air line) and if you get the fire 4-2-3 spam right, and don’t move out of the way of the veeeeery slow falling tonne of fire, you can kill things pretty fast.
And in WvW, you’ll want to carry a focus for the anti-trebuchet button.
It’s fun. Go for it.
And then, of course, there’s the d/d self-combo. Drop a ring of fire, swap to earth, earthquake (might!), magnetic grasp (fire field!), churning earth (more might!). And yeah, you could probably fit an arcane blast in the middle. Finish yourself four times.
I haven’t tried this because I thought it wasn’t true. According to the combo wiki (listed above),
“The finisher will trigger on the most recent initiator; a blast finisher will give Might instead of Healing if a fire field overlaps an existing water field. "
So I thought only one finisher triggered the combo? I just wasn’t sure if it was first (seems more likely) or last?

I’m still levelling and find sceptre/dagger to be awesome for PVE and then shift to staff for WvW. I’ve got 10 points in earth for the earth shield, the rest in water and arcane, starting with 10 in water, 10 in arcane then 20 in water, 20 in arcane etc. I go for power, vitality and toughness as the key traits that keep me alive and let me kite nicely. I use both elementals (fire for the lesser and fire or water for the main one) and switch between the other traits. I like the signet of earth – a3s stun can be a life saver, but the arcane wave and blast are useful too. I"m far from a pro player and doubtless this will be ripped to shreds, but it works for me…

I’m a refugee from WoW – had 5 × 85, mostly PVP rated BGs…come to GW2 because I can’t bear 5 levels x 5 chars in the idiot Panda zone…
But can’t migrate to Blacktide because it’s ‘full’ is there a way around this?
Thanks
