I’m surprised there’s only two posts in this thread… I’ve found the battle and emote sounds unbearable since the last patch. I tried turning dialogue down but it has zero effect except for me to not be able to hear the cut scenes or NPC dialogue.

My female charr necro sounds like she has some sort of medical problem she’s grunting so much.

While I’m on that subject, please, please give the female charr more female ‘noises’. It’s obvious that some of her ‘exertion grunts’ are obviously shared audio assets with the males… it’s bad enough they don’t get their own armour styles, she doesn’t need to sound like a male as well as look like one..

Aha.. looks like you were right. I must have some cruft in the file. Hand-typing worked. Should’ve checked that before!

The CPU is not up to spec but it has buckets of RAM, so was hoping it might be ok. Seems not…

I’ve been copy/pasting from a .txt file, but that’s a good point, I’ll double check by typing it in to another one and as well as to the login screen. Thanks

I’ve been unable to use the Mac beta since installing it on my Macbook Pro.

I get the following message:

The account name or password you entered is invalid. Please check your information and try again.

I’m trying to use the exact same login as I use on my PC, but no dice. Do I need to have a separate account for the Mac beta? Seems unlikely…

Email changed by someone without having to authenticate address?

Pleased to say that my husband’s account was restored last night. The thief stripped all his items from the account but left his character intact, so he can at least pick up and start again without re-rolling.

We checked his trading post history, and everything he had in his bags and bank that wasn’t soul/account bound was put on the trading post. Sadly he picked up most of his winnings before we got back in…

Worth noting, that on receipt of the support response, my hubby did have to click on an email authentication link, and then was able to access his account with his new password. I’d really like to see this in as standard when emails or passwords are forgotten/changed. I’m aware some think it pointless, but it gives the user the ability to prevent the theft if the email is not a webmail account (as in our case). It’s a standard feature for battle.net, as I posted about elsewhere.

Thank you to support for the reasonably swift response.

Now about my 19 day old support ticket…

Louiscifer, I’m curious as to how this is happening. When I go to ‘my account’ , ‘edit profile’ there is no option to change the email address.

It was like this yesterday when my husband’s account was stolen in what seems like the same way as yours.

While I would agree that client-side security is paramount, and sadly it looks like my husbands login details were taken from somewhere else (probably the LinkedIn hack of a few weeks back) the fact is… how can the ‘hackers’ be changing email addresses on accounts when the option to do so seems to be disabled? This gives me concerns about the security of the system in place.

We’ve been trying to reset our emails for some time (due to previously mentioned reasons) but Guild Wars 1 never had the ability to change the root email for the game account, and now they are linked, the person who stole the Guild Wars 2 account now has access to the Guild Wars 1 account too.

I’d love to change my email address (over seven years old) but I can’t because the option isn’t there to do so.

Enabling Email Authentication

All they needed to do was something along the same lines as Blizzard. When all the high profile database hacks happened (LinkedIn/Blizzard/PSN) I changed every email/pw combo I had.

This was the response I got when I requested an email change for battle.net:

Blizzard Entertainment has recently received a request to change the email address used to log in to your Battle.net Account. The email address xxxxxxxxxxxxx was specified as the new username for your Battle.net Account. In order to finalize and authorize the email address change, please click the Confirmation Link below. The update will NOT be completed unless you click that link.

Confirmation Link: xxxxx

If you no longer wish to make the above change, or if you did not initiate this request, please disregard and/or delete this e-mail. Please note that this link will expire in 7 days.

If you’re experiencing difficulties finalizing this request, please call our Blizzard Billing & Account Services.

Not hard to do, surely? Even bog standard blog installations can do this, why not a company that have made a huge amount of cash with prepurchases? A great many I would think who, if they wanted to link their old Guild Wars 1 accounts of many years standing (almost 7 years in my case), had to use an email account that the NCSoft Master Account never allowed to be changed.

Sure the option to change was supposed to work back in April, but for some reason it didn’t stick and now we have both emails in the system and someone else now has my hubby’s account.

Posting this again, as it hasn’t been addressed yet, and in light of my husband losing his account because someone else changed his email address I really am getting pretty desperate to resolve this

Email changed by someone without having to authenticate address?

I certainly would love to be able to change an email address to my account, but at present that is not possible even through the “Edit Profile” function. I’ve tried, but have not been able to do it.

But judging from the information you have provided, there is a hole in the fabric of the programming.

Sorry… I’ve just realised the implications of this.
If email changes were disabled, how the hell did this happen?

Just to add to the info in my first post. It should be blatantly obvious to support which was the unauthorised login, as we are a self employed couple with a business line and a static IP. So ANY logins from an IP other than those shown in mine and my husband’s account are not from us.

I sent a support ticket 17 days ago to find out why we couldn’t change our emails to the ones we requested back in April. haven’t had a reply yet, and now it’s too late for my husband I guess.

I’ve posted in the ‘waiting 5 days or more for a response to support’ thread. Husband has opened a support account and sent his details in.

Now I just wait I suppose, and login now and then to harrass the account stealer while he makes free with hubby’s characters (as I did an hour ago)

Worth noting. There is currently no option to change my email address in the account settings on the website.

If there’s no problem at their end, why have they disabled this? It was obviously working a couple of hours ago when someone changed my husband’s email address

Unless it’s because I put a support ticket in 17 days ago

If someone has your account name and password, how do you suggest that we protect the account? We have one form of authentication and will soon have another. We’re putting in safeguards for players. But in the end, those being affected by this problem are not using appropriate security measures, most likely are using credentials that were used elsewhere, giving a would-be thief the info s/he needs to steal the GW2 account.

Simple email authentication would be a start, no? Rather than a patronising ‘oops we hope it was you!’ message?

“most likely are using credentials that were used elsewhere”

Like in Guild Wars 1? Mine and my hubbys accounts were linked on April 10th to our original game accounts. We even pressed the ‘please use a new email address, and here it is’ buttons to make sure we could use more current details.

But when the beta came, we found the details were still the same.
When the game launched the details we still the same.

I’ve tried to change my email address to a more current one, but when I do it comes up as ‘already in use’ because it’s in the system from April, when we requested our accounts be linked.

I’m sat here, looking at the forum ID and email above this box and the email there is not the email I login with. It’s the email I requested back in April. But when I log into the game, I have to use the email from Guild Wars 1.

I emailed support, 29 August. No reply, ticket closed Sept 10. The reason we didn’t get these email addresses changed was because of the lack of reply from support. And now he’s lost both his GW1 and GW2 account.

Regardless of how his email and PW were gathered… (I suspect LinkedIn or one of the other ‘hacks’ as he does not use Games websites or forums, and neither do I as a rule)

Some form of email reset request alert and authorisation should be in place.

It is very shabby. As others have said pretty much every online service I use would never reset a password/email without an authorisation request

BF's Hacked Account

Exactly the same thing happened to my husband this evening.

I whispered the account stealer with “oi, get off my husband’s account you dirtbag”

oddly enough they logged out. Can’t imagine why.

He received no ‘someone has requested a new password, visit this link if it was you’ email either.

It wasn’t webmail, it was ISP mail, so he couldn’t have logged on online and intercepted it. Plus, all the email is pulled down by his desktop client. It isn’t there.

Pretty annoyed, and I’m seeing other people with the same issue. Regardless of how and where they got his details (which were supposed to be changed before launch when he linked his GW1 and 2 accounts and requested a new email was used) email addresses or passwords should never be reset without confirmation via email from the original email address.

Email changed by someone without having to authenticate address?

I’m here posting this because my husband can’t log in to here to do it himself.

About 5 minutes after he logged out this evening he received an email saying ‘his email address has been changed’ .. and I quote “we hope it was you!”

Leaving side the immensely patronising tone in the email, I am concerned by the following:

He has received no email to ask him to confirm that he has requested an email change. This was not a web mail account, it’s our ISP, so regardless of whether it was accessed somehow it should have come down the pipe. It didn’t

Thanks to the ability of someone to gain access to his account and request an email change, without having to verify it through an authentication email he has now lost:

His Guild Wars 2 account
His Guild Wars 1 account of 6 1/2 years standing.

Why lose the GW1 account?

Because despite the fact that both of us requested that our account names be changed to newer, more current email addresses when we registered the games back in April.. it still launched using the old details.

I had opened a ticket with support to check that it was safe to now change those email addresses on 31st August, as because we used new emails back in April they are now in the system and any attempt to request them now fails as they are “already in use”.

My ticket was closed on 10th September with no reply. We still don’t know if it was safe to do so, and now it’s too late.

Very disappointing. I hope your support replies to him quicker than it did me. Oh… it never did.

edit: Support ticket was from 29th August, not the 31st.
