A better indication is to go the the mist lobby and click on the pvp browsing. Most of the time like 30% of the pvp servers are full, so the game is not dying. Not so long ago these servers were full. However this is pvp and in pve a lot more are playing( i think), but it gives some idea about numbers.
Money talks…………..
Ofcourse not, it is all about the cash shop. It is in their interest to make things hard, so people might buy gold or other stuff from the shop. The question really is: do you want to grind endless for gold or gear or are you willing to pay for the cash shop? For me personally i stopped playing. The picture they showed us we could freely explore all areas and do whatever we want is misleading. The reality is we need to invest a lot of time in grinding before we can actually enjoy this game and the beautifull world they created.
Same reason they won’t fix the stuff which is broken, the reason we only have 1 type of structured pvp, they invest in things which brings the money in.

High Ranked players & Commanders hacked [Merged]
in Account & Technical Support

Someone on reddit posted this, which sounds pretty logic:
If the hacker is singling out in game characters by name and calling out his next attack he is not using some big password db or hack.
When you move close enough to another character, the game sends a wealth of information about that character to your computer. What’s obvious is the characters features, armour type, name, title..etc, things you can see on the screen. Perhaps there is additional information transmitted (such as an identification code) that a hacker can exploit.
That seems to me to be a reason why its only on that server (unless the hacker changes servers) and can be so specific.
Not saying this is it, but it is worth looking into it. I have a feeling GW2 is one of those games which do a lot on the client-side because they want to unload the server as much as possible. The disadvantage is that a lot of data information is on the client side, which sometimes can be manipulated fooling the server with wrong information.

I would say no. I don’t think they intended to mislead from the start, but I feel mislead by the PR talk somehow. It is not that it is a bad game, it has high value for the money for sure! but their PR-talk was over the top. I feel like i bought a car i didn’t really wanted/needed, but the saleman did an awesome job making the product desirable and i felt for it
Maybe their ideas didn’t work out as they hoped they would be? I mean the idea/concept of dynamic events is great, I am still a fan of dyhnamic events, but in this game it feels like it is a failed experiment. Maybe they fix this in the future or it will be done better in another game. Same for downed state, great idea!, but in reality it is just a frustrating concept. It was just all to good to be true and not realistic what they said in the PR-talk.

I miss:
- gvg
- ha.
- ta/ra.
- Skill system, it wasn’t perfect, but a lot better then GW2’s skill system.
- No repair costs or other, so I am not foreced to pve for some gold or gear.
- Meaningfull titles.
- Guild halls
- Monks/healers! At first I was hopefull removing the holy Trinity, but now I realize it was a mistake. It simply doesn’t work for strategic play, I prefer the more slow and strategic play with healers instead of the zerky play or capture style used in GW2.
To be clear, no overpowered healers like WoW(where on top lvl you can only kill a healer with perfect cc), but healers with decent/usefull healing output and which need support from the team to survive.
- No down mode. I think this was a design mistake from arenanet, they didn’t realize it would be bad for competive play. I Think it only works well in single player games, but not in competive play.
- template equipment manager
- Temple of ages
- Better balanced cash shop.
- Spectator mode. I miss it, but it is probably better to leave it out. Once it was introduced people start copying builds from top guilds and creativity was left out.

I tried to go back to GW1, but the pvp(gvg) is dead. I am still playing WoW arena sometimes, but the grind to get to 90(MOP) is horrible. I was never a fan of WoW because of the forced grind and unbalanced play, but the game is pvp wise a lot better then GW2 at the moment. Maybe when GVG, arena or HA returns, I might retry it, the current sPvP(or www even) has nothing structured with it and is a waste of time.
Maybe I try Planet Side 2(fps), but i think i got tired of playing MMO’s and grinding all those years. I just want to get into action, play and win by skill and not have a disadvantage because my gear is slightly worse.
From an old GW1 pvp player(more then 6000 hours played), played (top) gvg, team arena and ha. I cannot express myself how dissapointed i am in GW2 pvp, the horrible game mechanics and no feeling of any archievement is shocking.
As a huge gw fan, it is a shame so many resources got wasted in creating this game. I really tried to get into sPVP and WWW, but I cannot force myself to play longer then 20 minutes, so many small things were done wrong(imo). I had high expectations with Izzy joining the arenanet team for balancing, but maybe he left or something else went wrong..
Sorry for the rant, but i wanted to say this once
You’re either with us or against us mentality just hurts the forums nowadays. Seems like no normal discussion is possible anymore, but maybe this is a problem
of this time.
I am on the same boat a bit, played in GW1 for like +3000 hours mostly in GVG and some HA and PVE. I don’t agree with all points the OP makes, but he has some valid points IMO.
Personally i agree on DE’s being executed very poorly, the idea is great, but somehow on the way things went wrong. I dislike the word ‘zerky’, but it is a fact most big events are more about button bashing then strategy, which is not the game style I prefer. In the long run i think DE’s can be an improvement, but at this time I am not really impressed.
From the start I was a bit sceptical about the skill/weapon system, I hoped we could choose our own skills and every skill would react different on another weapon. Now the system just feels very limited and forced, including the traits system, it is just not the same flexibility we got in GW1. I think ANet simplified the skill system so they could balanced it better, but the result is we are forced to play with the same skills over and over again. The option to choose your own utility skills, elite and healing skill isn’t enough.
Same for example with the skill combination and the downed state, on paper maybe a good idea, but in practice it doesn’t work very well.
I prefer PVP above PVE, but at this moment the hotjoin/capture point mode isn’t enough for me. I never liked CP’s mode, because it makes the gameplay so unpersonal and most people are too impatient to defend the points anyway. I almost never got into WWW, I refuse to wait for more then 30 min. I mean there is no excuse for waiting so long, I want to play WWW and I should be able to, they really should fix this! Maybe ANet underestimated the use of such a large WWW instance, again the idea is fantastic, 3 factions fighting for dominance, but in reality it doesn’t work very well because of the technical limitations.
I still haven’t lost hope on this game, I respect ANet as a developper and I know they really want to give us the best experience possible. I love the idea ANet tried to chance the MMO landscape/mechanics, but i am not sure about the results. I think ANet has some great creative people, but somewhere in the proces the great idea’s didn’t translate to the game so well.
Personally i am gonna wait until they fix/tweak the DE’s, implement new PVP modes like GVG and ARENA, fix the waiting time in WWW and other small problems, but thast is just my opinion
