Witch hunter like profession?

in Players Helping Players

I played a Witchhunter in Skyrim also.

Ice Bow Elementalist isn’t a bad idea, but the Ice Bow has limited uses before it has to recharge, so you won’t get much use out of it. Ranger is you’re generic pet class. It also has the ability to use magic to summon even more allies. (Oddly enough, this build, referred to as “Spirit Ranger” is very popular, and effective.)

Ranger sounds like it would be more your cup of tea. Also, its a user of Medium Armour, so it will be easier getting the witchhunter look.

Commander Compendium : WvW Combat and Tactics

Hey Everyone, I’ve been working on a project lately and I believe it’s finally time to share it.

When I started playing WvW, there were many enthusiastic, helpful and skilled players who made it their business to make sure that everyone around them knew what was going on in WvW, and why. However, players come and go, and often they do not pass along the knowledge that they’ve earned to others.

I’ve spent the last few months researching, collecting footage, asking questions of this forum, in order to create a guide that would be an updated, and more combat oriented version of Theongreyjoy’s incredibly comprehensive WvW guide, which you can find here: guildwars2.ro/Ghid-WvW.pdf

So! To the point, I’ve assembled this Commander’s Compendium, which contains all of the information that I was taught, and all of the information that I’ve collected in order to teach myself and others to zergbust, GvG and play effectively in the WvW environment. This is intended to be an educational resource for everyone, the entire forum community contributed to it’s creation, whether you knew it or not.

http://www.tinyurl.com/WvW-Combat-and-Tactics-doc
(Commander’sCompendium.pdf 14,563KB)

What it contains:
Introduction to WvW,
25 player Composition & Party Structure
Combos, Map Objectives, WvW Skills and Concepts
Leadership Skills, Trait Synergies, Siege Outline
Small and Large scale combat basics
Class Roles (GWEN+M+T+Eng)
Advanced Combat Tactics

There are many videos that are referenced inside, which serve as visual examples of many of the tactics and roles that are described in the document.

As with all things, this guide can be improved! Some of the things that I think can improve this guide are:
Video: Thief PoV, Gank Squad in 15v15 or 20v20
Video: Mesmer PoV, Gank Squad in 15v15 or 20v20
More proofing for clarity, grammatical, or spelling errors.

If you find an error, Please PM me with it’s location and description and I will fix them and I will update the document.
If you find material that you posted to this forum and find in the PDF, and you want to be credited, send me a PM and I’ll add you below

Special Thanks:[RG][NS][Agg][HOPE][TA][RE][PYRO][Ark], WvW Forum community, Theongreyjoy …

and I’ll leave this here, because this is where it all started for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYrQMoOBqaI

Sword and Shield for Guardian?

Seal, you are telling the same as I do, only you go in detail whereas I point the OP to those sites.. So exactly on what do you disagree ? XD
Meta’s are there for a reason..to inform players from an baseline experience. But my second paragraph (and also my opinion in this) is to choose your own path.
Reality however is that in group events, you are always requested a certain gear and skill set to have the most group efficiency; which is utterly BS, cuz player experience and skills are even if not more important…whats the use of Sword/Focus and Staff if you do not know how to use it hahaha

Sharpen your justice. Dust off resolve. Brace your courage. The Guardian dragonhunter approaches.

[Sugg] LS S2 Bosses fun, but replay tedious

Just some general feedback about the bosses in this last season.

The Good:

Moving away from the DPS-and-dodge design that has dominated the PvE scene is a nice change of pace. Not that the old design was that bad when done well (see: Lupi), but having more active, mobile encounters is fun too. In this last episode, I found these elements of the encounter to be particularly nice additions:

- A wide variety of AoE attacks kept mobility important (sorry necros). The various attacks from the dragon, the bomb-blossoms, and the earthquakes meant you had to pay attention to everything around you.
- Having to tank a hit or two while channeling to light the walls encouraged non-zerk builds.
- DPS wasn’t really necessary for the actual fighting, which synergized well with the above point.
- Alternating between modes to advance the fight was wonderful: Collect light, channel flame, protect flame, fight boss.

I’ve noticed a lot of these elements in fights through the season, and think it’s a definitely a step in the right direction. I’d like to see a nice mix of these more active encounters combined with Lupis in future dungeons — that would make my day.

The Bad:

Too easy: no reset on wipe, OP rezzing by NPCs, actual fight went waaay too fast. Ofc, this is LS so the bar is necessarily lower than it would be in a dungeon, but I’d love to see a more challenging version of these fights in future instances.

The Ugly:

This is my biggest complaint, and the reason I’ll never enjoy these encounters as much as I’d like to: Accessibility.

Yes, the encounters are replayable. We can absolutely play them as many times as we’d like, and even party up to do it. But doing so requires spending an hour or more hopping around the map and clicking through dialogs to advance the story to get at the “interesting” bits. This has prevented me from playing any of these LS encounters more than once or twice.

I work; my playtime is limited. I don’t want to spend an hour speed clicking through dialogs, hopping around the map, and repeating puzzles just to do a 10 minute encounter. It’s not worth it, and poses a significant barrier to replaying (and thus fully enjoying) the content.

So my suggestions:

- Add subchapters to the story journal. Let us jump right into an encounter we want to play. This will make the replayability of these lovely encounters so much more enjoyable.
- Add a hard mode. I understand the current design is to add challenge through the story achievements. But a lot of those are just tedious OCD goals, and once you’ve done them, the challenge is gone. My suggestions for increasing the difficulty without much work on your end: (a) Reset the fight on wipe, (b) don’t provide resbot NPCs, and (.c) increase the damage and health of the boss a bit so it would take 3 or so rounds to finish. This last point would be especially interesting for parties in the last episode, as some players would need to be tanky for lighting walls, while others would need DPS for burning down the boss. Sounds fun to me
- A daily gold reward (something like 35s seems appropriate for a single encounter) would encourage people to add a few of these instances to a daily rotation.

In short, keep up the good work — the PvE encounters are improving, but need more challenge, reward, and accessibility.

Thanks for reading :-)

Need Really Really noob advice

Please prepare yourself for some really noob questions, sorry.
I wanted to ask how do you access your profession skills? I played till level 8 and I have no idea how to use them. I’m a Charr Engineer, so I’m expecting to be able to pull out a turret and stuff, but how do I do it? I understand that there’s weapons skills, but are they different than the profession skill?

Turrets are Utility skills, so they are skills what you need to buy with skill points. You will open your first utility skill in level 13, second utility skill will open when you are level 17, third utility skill will open when you are level 19, and last elite skill you will open at level 31. So you should level more at least 5 levels to get first utility skill slot open.

All these utility skills and elite skills you need to buy with skill points, what you will earn in Skill challenges and some point of leveling.

You can find leveling rewards from this site:

I really hate classes like sorcerer in Aion, so elementalist profession is out for me.

I think you should scrap your opinion on GW2 Elementalists by comparing them to “wizard” type classes in other games and try them out.

From what you described, you want a high DPS, risk taking class. Not much in the game can out damage a staff elementalist, but if staves and sitting in safe range isn’t what you’re looking for (it isn’t always that easy either), just take up any combination of daggers, scepter, or focus.
Think of it this way: a thief that uses elements.

You will be highly mobile, and since you’re sitting in close to mid range, your survivability will depend on your your positioning, dodging, and defensive skills. And when you can get downed in one hit, its very important to pay attention!
Having to master 20 spells in a weapon set instead of just 5 takes some time to learn too, but its very rewarding once you do!
(I actually leveled 2 elementalists before I learned the jist of them)

Breathing fire, making earthquakes or riding the lightning not exciting enough?
Grab a lightning hammer and bash everything into oblivion, it is that good.

In the end, I’m trying to sell you pancakes here, so here’s a TL:DR;
Elementalist are:
-high damage, high risk, very mobile
-bring a lot to the table for the group, from elemental weapons for more damage to heals
-having 20 skills per weapon set, you’ll constantly be switching between attunements and hitting keys. No sitting still!
-can summon elemental buddies when you get lonely
-want more weapons? A bow? Check. An axe? Check. Shield? Check. A kitten greatsword? Check!
-coolest class in the world? Yes.

So I’d say, its definitely worth giving them a chance! Just play around a bit and see if you like it, it only costs you a little bit of time.
If you’d like to know anything else, or need any help, you can poke me in game!

Compiled from another gw2 forum before these came online, but some real gems in here

1. Purchase your gathering items asap. That’s a pick, an axe and a sickle that only cost a few copper and allow you to loot resource nodes.
2. There’s an option “melee targeting assistance” or similar that prohibits you from walking through enemies. It might be better to turn it off, depending on your preference.
3. Type in “/wiki” to open the GW2 wiki.
4. When playing on a foreign client you can instantly translate any game-text into English by pressing the right Ctrl button.
5. You can edit your own music into the game and have it play during different times as explained here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/c..._music_in_gw2/
6. Press the Cogwheel top right corner of your inventory
Press Deposit all collectibles to put all crafting materials into the bank. (which later can be accessed from the crafting UI from a workstation)
7. Press hide/show bags to make the inventory window into one big bag insted of seperate bags
8. Also, finish a zone 100% to get nice masterwork (green) loot and a black lion key. (all hearts, points of interrest, vistas and waypoints
9. Don’t delete your first character without first sending your backpack, goggles to your new char
10. After you finish a ? quest, go to the ? guy and check for gear upgrades, they usually sell great stuff
11. Be sure to save 10 silver for when you hit level 11, as you have to buy access to your traits
12. Don’t buy violet weapons from vendor in the Mists, it has no dps (its probably for WvWvW). Buy exotic orange weapons.
13. Trebuchet on Battle of Kyhlo is op, it deals 9-11k aoe dmg and you can rush it from start and shoot before enemies take first base (windmill/mansion).
14. Cannon on beach map can be used, you just need to carry cannonballs from nearby ship. It deals 5k aoe dmg and you can shoot both beach and docks with it )
15. Never run away once you’ve completed a Dynamic Event. Try to talk to the NPC’s around you are try to follow any of the conversations NPC’s may have. There may just be one or more events coming up within a minute or 2
16. The mails u receive when u complete a heart are not just mails….take the money inside
17. If you see a resource node don’t rush to it only you can mine it.
18. - you can join the Heart of the Mist by going in Hero – PvP – click Heart of the Mist icon in the top left
19. You can travel to every Capitals by going to Lion’s Arch (take the Asura Portal in any Capital)
20. You have the option “sell junk” in your bags (in the bottom right), it will automatically sell all useless non-salvageable crap.
21. Keybind your weapon swap (as a matter of fact, I suggest to keybind everything
22. I suggest to turn ON auto loot in the options (you just spam “F” when you zerg instead of looting every corpse)
23. You can adjust your mouse turning speed with the slider in the options.
24. EXPLORE EVERYTHING. I found an awesome jumping puzzle yesterday in Lion’s Arch. A dead pirate was messing with me all the time.
25. #1 ability is your auto-attack, so you don’t need to keep spamming it like I did…
26. Adjust your Camera rotation speed to very high to remove that sluggish feeling when you mouse turn
27. You don’t need the bank to access your bank items. Any crafting stations come with bank slots.
28. There are no mail boxes. You can send items away with a right-click, and collect them through upper menu bar.
29. There is a range indicator on your abilities. There’s a red bar below the skill if you’re out of range.
30. You can do every single crafting profession in the game. You can have two active at a time. It costs some coin to switch them out and the fee depends on how many recipes you have. You don’t lose the recipes you have when you switch.
31. DON’T pass up on a harvesting spot. It literally takes 2 seconds, it’s free XP, and you never know if you’ll want to take up a profession that uses it later… you can also sell the raw mats when the TP is up.
32. If you’re getting into areas with mobs that are too difficult, but you’ve done all the other events in that zone (happened to me around level 20), check out the other races’ areas! You get scaled down to match the levels in those zones and can do all of their quests and events while still earning XP and Gear to match your own level!
33. you don’t need to be there when an event ends in order to get credit for it..
34. stick around after a dynamic event, some npc’s turn into karma vendors, (just like haert vendors often do)
35. if you’re being chased by a ranged monster, you can use another monster(a neutral one like a boar would work well) to block the bullets, thereby angering the neutral monster and causing a fight between the two, letting you escape more easily
36. You can redye your armor on your hero page absolutely free.
37. You can /kneel in front of statues and idols to receive some short-term boons.
