Hey Butter,

Loads of good advice here, just wanted to add that your best bet is to try out a few different classes for a week each. Pick 2-4 classes, look up a good build for each and go stomp on people. As you don’t need to level up to join tourneys and everyone gets access to the same stats you can really really mess around until you find a class that you enjoy most.

Unless you plan on getting together a serious team and going for the mid to high level ranks of pvp then I would just play what you like to play. Warrior, I find, is a really fun class to play and, if played with a boon stripper to take away stability, can be very effective and keeping the enemy team from stomping your teammates.

I am still using double click direction key for dodging which I think is really bad… I need to find a comfortable key for that…

I have my roll on my mouse button 4, its down the side and very easy to reach. First thing I did after checking out the roll mechanic was look for the best place for it. Double tapping can be fatal as you waste you rolls when you dont want to or roll off points just when you are about to cap

The build I’ve come to settling into is essentially completed. I had to revamp one of the weapon sets to fit the playstyle the team needed (I would classify it as Support Cleave). I’ll make a write up of it over the weekend for people to try.

Regarding the class tourny, yes I am a warrior coach along with my internet life partner K-Pop.

Brilliant, I will keep an eye out this weekend then.

I put my name down for the class tourney when I was level 32 but getting close to 35 now I hope I can get in but either way it will be fun to watch! I’m on Baruch Bay in Spain.

Hey Defektive,

Shamon here again Just wanted to say how happy I am with your build. I have been trying to fit hammer in somewhere as I really enjoy the weapon but I felt very slow and I didnt see the point of having a sword as it applies bleeding which the hammer traits dont synergise with. However, after playing with your build I have been able to get out of so many lost situations (using savage leap and warhorn skills) long enough to grab some HP and then “Earthshake” back onto point before its completely capped. Its a great build all round and if played correctly you can hold a point for quite a while if your holder gets downed.

Are you going to be coaching the “Class Team tourney” later in the month? Looks like fun so I put my name down

Also, cant wait to see the “ele” build you hinted at in another post. No idea what it could be!

Not sure what build you are running but I have this one on my necro:

It is one the best I have found for thieves and most other opponents as you can CC them a lot and keep them in fear/knockdown with dots on them. Its still hard to get the timing to start the CC chain as they can remove conditions quite easily.

Have you tried putting the Hydromancy sigil on your weapon? This chills upon weapon swap and is really good for keeping your distance with melee.

Either way you are going to have a tough time as Anet created yet another OP thief build Still, Necros and Warriors are meant to be buffed at the end of this month as per the devs on SOTG:

I’m going to be kicking my streams into high gear soon. Focusing 75% of it on tournament builds, tournament play, the Warriors place in a tournament as well as fielding questions from the chat regarding Warriors.

I don’t think a class is solely good based on how many foes they can down in an allotted time, but rather what they bring to the team overall.

What we bring to the table is kind of our problem though isn’t it? Many of the roles in TPvP can often be better filled by another class. You could have your team build around having you but I’m not sure that’s the best option. Even when I do well in PvP I feel like I had the skill advantage, not that I was on equal ground.

I’ve been running a new build thats been relatively successful taking over the role of an Ele. Still testing but there is some wiggle room in warriors.

Granted we have an extremely up hill battle, but some things do work if you slam your head against the wall long enough to find a crack

I still have some testing to do, and I have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of warrior traits / skills etc. are about to change so I’m not putting a lot of effort into showing people the build just yet.

But when it’s ready I will :P

Ahh, even more intriguing! Would be nice to get some buffs but hope they dont overdo it like with other classes so we see a million FOTM identical classes

On a side note (and if you see this), I have been watching your hammer build videos and notice you use your heal quite a few times even though your life is full and your adrenaline bar is almost full. Is this just so you can engage with a 100% adrenaline bar or is there some other reason behind it that I haven’t seen in the traits?

Heya, any reason why this is outdated? I didn’t play for a few months and even though I checked patch notes I didn’t see anything there as to why I should’nt continue using the same build. Thanks in advance

1- Warrior sucks in PvP
2- No mobility in your build
3- You have 2x Quickness – Quickness is nerfed

1- Warrior sucks in PvP – mmm not really related to the build
2- No mobility in your build – 30 seconds swiftness every minute, not the best but enought to get from point to point.
3- You have 2x Quickness – Quickness is nerfed – Quickness is still good even after the nerf

I thought there was something big I was missing from November but obviously not Thanks for the feedback either way.

Hey guys, I have been having great fun with one of Oppa’s build since I started last August. Its lost some luster since the nerf to quickness but it is still really strong, high dps with triplechop and insane amount of stuns. Having reflect missiles on the shield and mace 2 is a lifesaver and I have won many a 1v1 by timing it correctly and reflecting damage back to the sender

I have tried all builds and so far this is the best all round. You are slower than a GS roamer but the defense of the build makes up for that and you are not a one trick pony.

Full stun rotation with max adrenaline can be either:

Shield4, MaceF1, Switch weapons, Frenzy, Triple Chop for a few seconds and then Mace5. If they get out of it use Bulls Rush to close gap and finish them off.

Or (I prefer this one since the Quickness nerf)

Mace 5, Frenzy, Triple chop for a few seconds, Switch weapons, shield 4, mace 3 and then maceF1. If they move away use bulls rush.

With both of these timing is critical and you need to pull it off really fast but once you do you will drop a lot of their life and put them on defensive if you havent killed them. Bunkers and holders need to be “played” with first to get rid of boons and cooldowns.

Here is the build, not mine, Oppa is the one who came up with it!

Hey Joe, the advice given here has been great. Things I do that I take for granted like using the mouse to turn etc. However, I really think it will be impossible to do this with a track pad. If you can get a cheap optical or even ball mouse it will make your life so much easier. Unless you were kidding

Since I hate WvW, and as a person I’m extremely competitive. I’m forced to play builds that function most optimally in a tPvP Scenerio.

Hey Defektive, any chance you can share the build you are playing around with? Would love to see something like this combining CC and burst DPS. I’m currently running axe/mace + mace/shield but find the burst somewhat lacking.

LAG after ACT III

Well, I logged in this morning and played for about 30 mins with no lag. You may find the latest patch fixed the bug or just overwrote some corrupted files fixing the issue that way. I will check the issue in more details when I get home.

Do you guys still have lag issues after the patch?

I’m having the same issue. Really bad lag since ACT III, I cannot pvp and can barely pve with it. Skills are taking 2-5 seconds to go off.

Hope someone has a solution for this

Hey Milo, thanks again for the great advice. Will hopefully be winning some more nodes from now on. Need to look at team composition as well as pretty sure we are seriously lacking boon strippers. I play roaming warrior build with Oppas axe/mace + mace/shield setup so nothing there for me

Thanks for the reply. The situation I am referring to seems to happen all the time at GY or Keep. The initial rush always seems to end up being 3v3/4v4 and the other team seem to focus fire us down one by one and we end up chasing after an unkillable objective. I’m glad to see you suggest going after dps/glass cannons first as this is what I was leaning towards.

Thanks for the additional information regarding whether we should be there or not. We often end up bashing our heads trying to regain a point that has substantial defense and end up losing the match as its impossible to take back. We will have to rethink our strategy and go cap the other less defended points and force some of the players out of the node.

What about healing elementalist or guardian/engineer bunker? I have encountering this 2 man setup more and more on nodes and am finding it very hard to grab a kill on either before the rest of the other team arrive as backup.

Let me guess:

Guardian Bunker Build and Mesmer Shutter/Illusion Build in multiple numbers, maybe a single Thief with probably high dmg build is enough. Or maybe a whole team with Guardians or Mesmers.

Now Iam curios what the Tpvp folks say to this setup out of 16 different options to choose from (not builds but offensive or defensive direction)

Hey guys,

Well the title says it all really, when attacking a node and finding you are fighting against 3-5 enemies who should you be trying to down first? I find trying to down the bunker/healer builds impossible so end up calling target on glass cannons only to have the bunker builds take the heat of them making me think we should have zerged the bunkers. Necro deathshroud builds and healer elementalists I try to leave until last but they also have a lot of CC so impede our chance of finishing downed enemies.

Please only offer helpful insight and not L2P, I am learning which is why I am asking

hotjoin is all about scoring since we got a thing there called autobalancing.

Autobalance kicks in when the teams are uneven in players , not points. Regardless, hotjoin or any format of Spvp should be about promoting teamplay not running around trying to get the killing blow.

Hey guys,

I have been playing quite a bit of Spvp since the game launched and have noticed a huge lack of cooperation from teammate. That is fairly normal in PUGs, happens in all games. However, I think if more points were awarded for certain team play aspects then it would make people try harder to defend a node, res a teammate from downed state or stop them getting stomped. Currently the incentive just isn’t there and you end up with 4 guys running after their kill while you can only frantically type that you are on the floor bleeding or getting stomped by the other team who are doing the same.

I propose:

-more points for defending (didn’t work much in wow but who knows)
-more points for ressing and a higher bonus for being top resser.
-points for healing even if you dont res the player (not sure if this is in already)
-some way to gain points for interrupting a stomp thus keeping your teamate alive

Small things like this would make people play more cooperatively and hopefully increase team awareness whilst improving the way people play.

Note that this proposal is only for Spvp, NOT TPVP.

Weapon Set Changing during tpvp - should it be allowed

I just typed the same post up in my outlook and then saw this one when coming to post it Great minds think alike hehe.

I agree with the general consensus here and am hoping that anet will eventually lock your build in once you start playing the matches. Much like your dual spec in wow you should not be able to change once you have seen what the other team have as far as build and weapons go.

Also its really annoying to feel I have to keep changing traits and weapons in order to get on the same playing field as the other team.

On the flip side sometimes you can tell someone is doing this (autorun into obstacles anyone?) and quickly dispatch of them before they do the swap. Or engage them in combat when they have their swiftness buff offhand out instead of their defensive off
