PVE Skin Locker

I would like to suggest some ideas for a PVP style locker available for the skins of items currently available in PVE.

The current implementation of the PVP locker for skins is a fantastic way of being able to store your items obtained from PVP chests, and gives people with a collector mentality a drive to collect every available piece of equipment.

From a PVE perspective skins for each item needs to be collected and then combined with items of the appropriate stat make up. In the process one of the items is effectively destroyed. This severely limits people’s desire to chop and change their appearance, as they need to regrind / purchase the item that was effectively destroyed in the combination process.

I understand that the current system is in place partly as a way for Anet to make money from the purchase of both the transmutation crystal, and bank space to store the armour / weapon pieces. I fully support their current model to make money, and find it a much better way than a monthly subscription.

What I propose is a PVE locker system, that you can use a transmutation crystal (or something similar) to save the items current skin, as well as stat combination into a bank. The price of the item required to enter the skin in the bank should be commensurate with the current cost of storing that item in your personal bank / use of transmutation crystal as it is now.

This will give a powerful drive to those PVE players who have a compulsion to acquire every skin available in the game. This will lead to a higher income for Anet, as I can guarantee that my use of the transmutation crystal would increase dramatically (I am sure I am not the only one!).

From the PVE skin locker, skins of items already saved can be combined with stat combinations in the bank to create armour items with a transmutation crystal (or something similar). This will make it less arduous in swapping specs that require different stat allocations.

Given Arena nets current implantation is that most gear becomes character bound, the PVE locker will probably be character bound, but I would like to see discussion about whether skins can be available account wide, but may be stats for each armour slot being character bound – so that you can make your alts look great, but still need to work to get exotic / ascended level of armour for them.

Recombined armour probably should be non-salvageable to prevent their conversion into ecto’s but given the cost of the transmutation crystal this wouldn’t be a viable gold making strategy

Suggested Pricing

I have run some numbers for the cost of each step of the process that will give an idea of how much we are currently paying to store items in the bank.

I would suggest that they make a new item, that will allow you to take an item and break it into:

Skin for that slot
Stats for that slot

and store those into your PVE locker. It would use an item that cost 100 Gems for an item with 5 uses (half what a transmutation crystal costs)

This equates to 20 gems per item stored – which is what we are currently paying for a single bank slot i.e. – 600 gems buys you 30 bank slots.

For use the skin – keep the transmutation crystal at the current cost of 200 gems / 5 uses.

I would love some official clarification from Arenanet as to whether this is they way the TP is supposed to work.

I play MMO’s partly for the economic aspect, and this repeated error message is enough to make me move on.

If it is truly just an error, that will be resolved on day – great I will persevere, but if this is how it is supposed to be….

If the system is working as intended – then it is extremely draconian.

Systems like this should either be so that normal users are unaware that it is present. Or when they become aware, then the system needs to be improved

Can we please get some clarification regarding whether the “Error Attempting to Sell” message which continually pops up when you attempt to sell multiple items in a short time frame is an intended feature, or whether it is a bug.

I understand that there needs to be some protective strategies in place to prevent overloading the server, but if it is working as intended, then it is an exceptionally intrusive method.

This error appears after selling as few as 7 stacks of an item.

Having to wait 20-30 seconds before you can start posting again is a major impediment to working the Trading post.

Would love to see and official response

Did they nerf ecto salvage rates?

Seriously – How many more of these “did they nerf drop rates” are we going to have with such a small sample size.

If you can say – the last 100 salvages resulted in only 80 ecto’s, where as the 100 before that gave 100, then that may be worthwhile to discuss.

But a run of 5 compare to a previous run of 5 is completely random.

Suggestion to reduce botting

I completely understand that Arenanet needs time to investigate the methods botters are using to exploit the game. I am suggesting a method to help curb the effects on the economy as well as people game play experience while we are waiting for the eventual ban hammer.

Suggestion:
After a potential botter receives a certain number of reports for botting from other players, a captcha appears on their screen (one of those annoying images that you need to read a distorted word).

If the botter fails to enter a correct response in an appropriate time (i.e. 60 seconds), they are logged out of the game.

If it was a real player, they can enter the correct code, and become immune to further requests for a nominated time (i.e. 30 minutes) to prevent players trolling each other by making people fill in captchas.

If the bot that has been kicked returns online, and fails again after getting rereported, they get kicked and slapped with a short term ban (i.e. 24 hours). This can escalate further with repeated failed attempts.

Disadvantages:
It won’t prevent botters running multiple accounts while they babysit them.
The captcha system isn’t infallible.
Minor irritation to real players (offset by the cool down after a successful completion of the captcha)

Advantages:
It gives real players a sense that the reporting for botting system will actually do something in the short term.
It adds another layer of inconvenience to the people botting.
Because it is player based – it gives no indication to the people writing the bots that arenanet have identified them, so a passive surveillance can continue, followed by a mass wave of bans.

Suggestion: To improve BLTC efficiency (for both player and server)

Despite having issues with up time I am quite enjoying the mini-game of making money on the BLTC. During my time using the current interface there are numerous things that I would like to make my life easier, but I want to outline a simple interface change that will dramatically improve both player performance, as well as hopefully lighten the load on the servers.

In the process of using the BLTC I am constantly swapping between the various tabs in the BLTC. Swapping between the “sell” and “buy” screen, as well as checking how much I paid for an item or how much I sold it etc.

What I suggest is to be able to drag out the tabs, so that you can have multiple tabs visible on the screen at once. This would work in a similar manner to how you can pull out tabs into a separate window in most modern Internet browsers.

This would allow me to have my – “stuff I have bought” tab open, while currently selling objects to make sure that I am not selling stuff at a loss. This would make my life much easier, but more importantly it would reduce the load on the servers. Currently I am having to swap between the tabs, and each time it is sending a request to the web server that hosts the BLTC. If I could separate the tabs, I would estimate that my requests to server would reduce by 50-60%.

Another smaller suggestion to reduce server load, would be to have a list of the currently prices that items are being sold for on the “sell” tab. Right now it only shows the – sell it now, sell at current lowest price or your current price of other sales. This means I have to swap between the “buy” tab – which lists all the current prices – to assess the market, and then go to the “sell” tab – this again makes my life more difficult, as well as increasing the load on the server.

I have posted this idea on the suggestion forum, but it got quickly buried and I am afraid that it may have been missed.

Kind regards

Suggestion to improve player / server efficiency of the BLTC.

I find myself switching between the difference windows in the BLTC frequently while I am trying to play the market. I am often alternating between the buy and sell window, as well as looking at my past sales / past bought prices. Each time I am reloading a window it is putting a fresh request to the servers handling the BLTC.

What I am suggesting is to make the different pages of the BLTC window able to be pulled out of the pane. In a similar way to how tabs can be pulled out to make a new window in most internet browsers. This would allow me to have multiple sources of data open at once, and stop me having to switch between the windows just to cross check how much I bought something when I go to sell it.

Obviously people with smaller screens wont get much functionality out of this, but a significant portion of the population would be able to use this, and will hopefully reduce the load on your servers.

Thanks
