Thanks a lot! That’s what I was hoping to hear. I’ve already got a ton of stones from earlier completions and chests so I’ve got plenty to spare.

I’ve got a quick question and just want to make sure I understand the Skin system before I make a purchase.

I have a low level Sylvari Engineer. If I purchase the Magitech (Medium) armor skin pack, how does it work exactly? Does it work like this? The first time I apply the Skin to Armor I simply use the Skin to do the change. 5 levels later I get an upgraded piece of Armor. Now I need to use a Transmute Stone to take the old Magitech armor skin and place it over the new, upgraded, piece of armor. Is this correct? If so, I’m fine with that system where the first transmute is “free” but additional ones cost me stones. I just want to make sure that’s how it works before I spend the Gems.

Thanks much!

True, and depending on the group a lot of times I’ll forego bombing everything in the race. But while learning the race, I had enough #1 racers use the tactic against me that I started using it against them. Since I got the achievement, I don’t use the bombs nearly as often but if you’re still trying for the win 1st place achievement, I highly recommend doing so until you get the win.

Yeah, the race is won or lost by the first waterfall.

My tactic is to hit every power up (Grounded or Aspect Master) at the beginning of the race. Even if it costs me a few places at the start. If I can get 3 Aspect Master buffs before the first waterfall, I’ve won. End of story.

After that first waterfall, if you’re in the lead, it’s nearly impossible to lose the lead unless you miss a jump or fall off of something. Every attack item you get will be a bomb. You simply keep putting them on every choke point you come across. The opening leading to the first set of cliffs. Right in front of the swinging doorway. In the middle of the platform with the narrow rails. The 3rd and last lightning platform. And so on. You get SO many bombs that the people behind you can’t dodge or ground them all. Without using the shortcut at the end, I can waltz across the finish line with no competition.

So to summarize:
Get 3 Aspect Masters before the first waterfall
Bomb every choke point you come to
You win

Is it bad to keep coming first?

I have no problem finishing first. With some groups I can get it every time without even struggling. With other groups I have to fight for a top 3 spot. My last group had me finishing first every time and the second person coming in a full 2 minutes after me.

I guess that my biggest complaint is how much of an advantage the first player has over the rest of the racers. Races tend to be decided by the first waterfall. If I can hit that first waterfall with nobody near me, I will win every time. I will go out of my way to grab every bomb and use them at strategic choke points. Even with Grounding, you won’t miss all of them and with everyone else firing off debuffs, the people behind me just keep getting farther and farther back.

The race is fun as heck but it’s not very balanced.
