Why is it that all the characters in GW2 (PCs and NPCs) are all programed and animated to be right-handed, yet most of the armor they wear are made/modeled for a left-handed person?
For some I suppose this isn’t an issue, but as a game enthusiast and a Role player, this minor graphical hiccup is really taking away from immersion.
*Please note that I am NOT criticizing the authenticity and the design of the armor, but I am merely pointing out the obvious “mess up” in the graphics.
I raise “Human cultural armor [Tier 1], Commander’s set” as one example:
On the in-game model, you can see that the Pauldron is on the Right side of the body. If you and your opponent are both wielding weapons in your right hand, the left side of your body is the part you need to be protecting. Even if you choose to wield a shield, there is always a risk of getting hit in the shoulder or neck. That is why you wear a Pauldron on your left side.
Secondly, if you look down towards the leggings, you can see that the belt buckle is facing the opposite direction with the end of the belt fasted to the right. Granted, you can put a belt on in whichever direction you choose to… but in most cases, don’t people usually fasten the end of the belt to the left, with the buckle facing right?
I don’t know if the developers “intentionally” finished the game this way, but I am somewhat convinced that most of the armor models in-game are backwards/mirrored.
In conclusion, I’d like to suggest a future update in hopes to fix this mirrored armor “mess up”.
Personal note:
I find it extremely funny watching LB and GS wielders go face to face with there opponents with their entire left side exposed… LOL
Most of the silliness comes from the Pauldron, Chest guard, and leggings protecting the wrong side, but as this is only a cosmetic issue, it has no real effect on gameplay.
If the GW team ever decides to fix this, it would only be for the sake of the artists and the players that want better immersion.
This should be in low priority.
