Double Axes PvP build suggestions

Lately axes have been pretty popular in support roaming shout builds. I’ve been trying one recently that works well and may be my favorite warrior build thus far. You don’t dish out crazy damage, but it’s better than other support builds and you’ll survive basically any encounter while providing good utility. It ain’t guardian, and it certainly ain’t mesmer either, but it’s probably the best we’ve got or will ever get.

HoD vs JQ vs SBI (Score Screen Shot)

in WvW

As far as the scores go – I’m thinking we had people jump ship or just not care anymore on SBI.
About a 10 minute que for EB on a Saturday roughly 2 hours ago (somewhat primetime) last week it would of been hours I believe.

It’s worse than that, actually. At 7:15 EST, mere minutes before the start of primetime, there was literally no queue in any WvW map for SBI. About a half an hour later there were short queues for homeland and EB. As of now there’s finally queues for every map, still very short. A week or two ago there would have been 2+ hour queues all day before primetime on a weekend.

SBI was always a more PvE oriented server, but it hasn’t been a problem until now. Hopefully most of the PvP population is just taking a break, though I know some people are fed up enough with not having the coverage that they don’t plan on returning.

Discipline bonus, a bit pathetic?

I agree. I take discipline for the traits, which are super good, but the burst damage bonus is just bad, especially considering that most burst abilities don’t even deal very good damage. Maybe change it to reduced cooldown for burst abilities instead? I’d say 3% for every ten points is good, with an extra percent for the last point making it an even 10%.

I don’t think anyone here is going to interpret your first post favorably when you say stuff like

“A wise frog once said ‘It’s not easy being green,’ but we’ve been proving him wrong since day 1.”

and

“It is also apparent that green is the most difficult area on EB to defend.”

Regardless, it seems you’re done here, so I am as well. Good luck tonight.

I should have been more precise in my first post. I’m referring to treb placement on the upper tier of Stonemist, as they can not be counter-trebed. You can easily treb Wildcreek, Klovan and Durios from these protected locations., but the other three towers require treb placement that can easily be counter-sieged.
In reply to your response, there are two locations within the Valley keep that can reach Bravost and Langor with a single treb, hence covering your outer towers. They’ve both been utilitized to great extent since the BWEs. I’m certain many players know where they are.
I am by no means saying anything “negative” about the green portion of EB. These maps are fairly well-balanced and the sections that do not seem balanced simply require some ingenuity to overcome. This keeps the matches interesting and separates the servers who follow cookie-cutter strats from those that who constantly adapt and develop their own.

First of all, you’re wrong about the treb placement. There’s safe treb spots in Stonemist to hit all of the outer towers (And when I say outer towers, I’m referring to the ones nearest Stonemist. Outer as in furthest away from your keep, not furthest away from Stonemist. AKA not Langor and Bravost) I’m not going to tell you what these treb spots are.

Secondly, why are you totally flip-flopping on your stance concerning EB balance? What you said in your first post really indicated that you felt Lowlands was a bad position. Now you’re apparently saying there’s nothing negative about Lowlands at all when that really isn’t the case. Lowlands has poor supply coverage. There’s no reason to deny it; anyone with a brain can see it. TA PR guy looking over your shoulder or something?

Small warrior vid, group roaming vs zerg

I hate to burst your bubble because it is a well made PvP video and all, but these people you’re up against are pretty bad. I went and checked, and it does turn out that Drakkar’s Hold and Whiteside Ridge are two of the lowest ranked WvW servers in the world. This isn’t indicative of individual skill, but it does indicate that these servers have less than ideal coordination. It really shows in these videos; half the time you run into a large group of people and only 3-4 of them even end up attacking you. I don’t see why you bother to build tanky; if I had the luxury of only being attacked by a fifth of the enemy while charging in I’d build full glass cannon and kill half of them before they even notice me.

What I’m trying to say is that your opinion of viable warrior builds doesn’t hold much relevance if these are the kind of people you go up against. When someone from a top-ranked server says they don’t feel warrior has any good WvW builds (I don’t agree with this personally, but people do make some good arguments), you should lend them some more credence instead of this sarcastic drivel you have in your video. Chances are they have a more profound WvW experience than you. You just seem to stomp baddies with a coordinated guild.

On a lighter note, I do think your build is good.

Blademaster: Sword in offhand

I went ahead and tested this myself, and found it does NOT give you the bonus if your sword is in offhand. It was a very simple test:

Went to the Heart of the mists, got 70% critical with Runes+Trait+Amulet, activated Signet of Rage+"For Great Justice!" to get a permanent Fury, bumping it to 90%. With a mainhand sword, it does appear to give the 10% bonus to critical, as I was unable to note a single time I did not critical over 5 minutes. Hilariously, when I offhanded the sword, even with 90% critical and Blademaster, the first hit of the mace did not critical (and many more after that, I kept going until I was able to reproduce 10 non-crits).

While testing this, I went ahead and tested a few other things that give bonuses but do not list them in the stat menu. Heightened Focus does in-fact work, giving me 100% accuracy from 81%+10%(Blademaster). Superior Sigil of Accuracy does work, but contrary to what the wiki states, it does NOT stack, meaning you cannot use one in each hand and get 10% bonus critical. It seems safe to assume no sigil stacks if used in both hands, despite what the wiki states.

I think the OP was asking whether or not sword off-hand abilities would get the crit bonus, not if the bonus would be applied to main-hand weapons while off-handing a sword. At least that’s how I interpreted it. I could be wrong, though.

Not like it really matters, though. Nobody cares about crits on off-hand sword abilities.

The colors seem to be random, from what I’ve seen. You have a 33% chance of being green again.

(For you sticklers, the remaining 1% chance of the colors will be your battlegroup being broken by some glitch and nobody being able to fight)

No, green is first place in that matchup, blue second, and red third. I am of the opinion that red is marginally better for EB, and blue/green are about the same. It’s fine the way it is, though I wouldn’t mind if it were random.

Suggestion: Allow coin donations towards upgrades

I think GW2 makes a point of rewarding organization. They want guilds to pick-up the slack.

If arenanet implemented your plan, kitten would get built almost all of the time regardless of organization.

So you’re effectively proposing that only large WvW guilds should be able to upgrade keeps.

/mind boggles

My experience indicates that this isn’t true at all. Maybe I’m just on a good server, but there are always people willing to pitch in for upgrades. Usually people just do it themselves. In the event of a particularly expensive upgrade, a commander might request some cash from people in map chat, which gets done quickly and without complaint.

I’m not sure that it’s meant to be a status symbol, but if a server does not move from it’s position, it is locked to that color. It seems as though the only way HoD can shift to a different color with the current system is to lose.
It is also apparent that green is the most difficult area on EB to defend. It’s the lowest ground, both towers can be trebed from SM and the Lowland’s Keep is the most vulnerable to attack from multiple sides.
A wise frog once said “It’s not easy being green,” but we’ve been proving him wrong since day 1.

Every outer tower in EB can be trebbed from Stonemist. And Valley is a much worse keep than Lowlands; it’s so tiny that you can’t even build trebs on it to cover your outer towers. If you wanted to say something negative about the green portion of the map in EB you picked two incorrect things. A better weakness would’ve been to say that Lowlands offers very little protection of the supply lines and it’s the easiest third of the map to harass caravans and take supply camps.
