Ferocious Winds now does grant Ferocity = 0.07 x precision but this gain excludes the 180 precision gain from Signet of Fire which is about 12.6 points worth of ferocity (0.84 crit damage). I wonder if this is intentional or a bug.

Not sure why he needed to attack when my misunderstanding was based on pure English, but there you are.

Again, now that I know what the OP is saying I don’t disagree with him.

I don’t attack you personally. I attack your post which clearly demonstrate your inability to read and comprehend the sentence and yet putting up the “you don’t do the event you don’t deserve the reward” attitude. So don’t run around and scream they attack me and be defensive about it when you’re the one that started it.

I really do think they need to rework this system. Penalizing afkers is a good, but if you are actively participating in an event, it should not mark you as inactive.

Nope wouldn’t deduce that. You need to be more clear. And yes that’s a professional opinion.

Then now you learn something. And no calling it a professional opinion doesn’t mean anything. Just learn to play before putting forth an opinion.

Back to topic. The system definitely needs some tweaking. Maybe gives a 3 mins grace period if you’re not in the radius of the event and 5 mins grace period if you’re in the radius of the event before marking you inactive instead of a flat 30 seconds.

Otherwise the best way to get credit is NOT doing the event and pick up the object, wait until it’s about to finish and turn it in. That way it is guaranteed that you will get credit. In fact I’ve already done so several times since this bad taste in this inactivity crap now. And will recommend many people in map chat to do so.

It’s a professional opinion because I’m an editor for a living. This is what you wrote:

“Doing the “put out the wyvern fight event”. Spending every single moment of it trying to find buckets and throw down the fire.”

Anyone with a basic understanding of the English language would look at this line and say you spent every single moment looking to find buckets. One might easily assume from this that you didn’t find buckets, because you spent every single moment looking for them. This isn’t unreasonable at all. I don’t disagree with the premise that some adjustment needs to be made to credit for an event if you’re still there at the end, but the way you wrote this leaves much to be desired.

Can you see anywhere in your OP where you said you actually put out a fire, because I’d be very interested in reading that draft.

“Doing the “put out the wyvern fight event”. Spending every single moment of it trying to find buckets and throw down the fire.”

The word buckets has an s after it. As an editor you should know that it’s in plural form. Plural form implies I was trying to find more than just one bucket. Which in turn implies that a bucket has been found since you can only pick up one bucket at a time. Having to look for a second bucket meaning I already found the first bucket, after which I would have used up the first bucket i.e., use skill 1 on a fire with the first bucket before looking for a second one. You don’t look for several buckets at the same time at anytime. Given any moment of time, you only look for one bucket. The plurality of the word buckets in my OP clearly indicated that I have used up at least one, the first one.

I also indicated in the quote that you quoted

and throw down the fire

Anyone with basic reading comprehension would know to read the entire sentence instead of just the first half of it let alone not understanding the plural vs singular form of a noun. Anyone can do writing for a living, it doesn’t make it professional. Your reading ability here clearly indicates otherwise.

I put down 20 fires just not in the last 30 seconds of the event because every time in those 30 seconds the bucket got exploded whenever I try to get it to another fire spot.

Or maybe ArenaNet wants to encourage the following behavior:

Pick up a bucket, stand on a safe spot. Wait for for everyone to get it to 9/10 and put yours in. Maybe that’s the behavior that is intended to be played in this type of event. Because those people get gold credit, while I get nothing.

Cavalier stat is Toughness/Power/Ferocity.

If you couple that with Berserker and Assassin, you can produce the desired result into a 4 stat combo. The combination is too complicated to fit this margin and it’s 6:40 am so I’ll leave you with that. There is a solution.

By the way I’m excited for this new stat combo power/precision/ferocity and vitality. I’ve been waiting for it for while. I’m glad Anet added it

How would you rate the HoT Fun Factor?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Skywing.4836

Well, all of us know the real numbers.

$-1000<-122.34<-\pi^e<-\gamma<-0.00000001<-0.0000000000000000001 \in \mathbb{R}$

But if we continue this way, looks like the largest negative number will be

$-0.0000\dots1$, but this number, as defined by Cantor, is $0$.

So can we say the largest negative number is $0$

HoT funfactor is less than the above.

I’m not sure if I’m the only one reading this thread understanding your LaTex codes but here goes you’ve earned it. For this I’ll rescale the OP to 0=horrid, 1 = ecstatically fun

Let $h$ be HoT fun factor and let $\epsilon > 0$ be given. I claim there exists a $0 \le \delta \le 1$ such that $\epsilon < h < \delta$. Now let $\delta(t) = f(t)$ where $t \in [0,\infty]$ and $f$ is the function whose image represent your satisfaction with your achievement in HoT and $t$, obviously represent time since your acquisition of HoT to an indefinite arbitrary future. Since the codomain is finite as the game is a finite state automaton, $f$ is continuous since the domain consists of singleton units of time. Extreme Value Theorem guarantees a maximal $\Delta$ in a singleton subset of any element in $[0,13140000]$ where $t$ here is measure in seconds for the span of 10 years. Remember $\Delta \le 1$. Set $h = \Delta/24000$ where 24000 is approximately the amount of seconds one takes to get 1 point in the current expansion.

Here’s a real life story: we had a discussion in a math class (graduate level) and one of the student stood up and told the professor: “I dare you to fail me, fairly”, the teacher couldn’t do it. Why? Because he would have to fail everyone in the class. There’s been a lot of math on the gains of ascended gear vs the gains of class/play.

If they actually tune it so tightly that that 1.98% extra you get from ascended armor (as vs weapons and trinkets) is necessary for top players, it’s going to be utterly inaccessible to everyone else, and then the mode will fail.

I don’t want it to fail, I don’t think they want it to fail, They can’t tune the cnounter that tightly — if it’s possible to do so at all, given the ‘active combat’ element in GW2

Of course not. The entire thing has been blown out of proportion. There’s vid of someone SOLO all 3 guardians:

What one should take out of this is a truth, a painful truth: the devs are NOT good at the game. They are not good enough to even be compared to the top elite players like Sesshi, Goku, Abe and a handful more of the top in elite speed clear dungeons like SC, rT, qT, DnT, NA, LOD, to name a few.

Their skill level is probably above average. And to an average players, Ascended weapons+Trinkets are efficient enough. And no ascended armor being required is absolute crap.

If it was just about that 1.x%, i wouldn t complain this much..and so other decractors (although it would still be unfair competion, “grind not skill”).
but 10%dps or more can heavily affect a fight.
let’s assume that raid is, as devs said, designed around BiS gear, to be challenging for the best gear available: without that 10% dps, it’s quite possible that closing the raid may become much more difficult, or even impossible.
And if we talk about masteries locking raid wings (and it definitely can be a huge timesink)…or, once again, that kitten AR.

We’re talking about the common issue of any other mmo available.
Well done, the nogrind game, the enjoy-game-from-first-login game, the no-treadmill game.

They have to choose one path: a skill based game (that does nt mean casual: it just means that you can access any part of the game even at the first login…but complete it only if you’re skilled enogh, without differences in gear stats and any other unfair help) or the typical timegated/bestgear/unlockendgamebygrind game.
there is no half way between.

It’s not 10% DPS increase. If you actually look at my spreadsheet. It’s more of a 1.45% dps increase for the ascended armor. If you only use exotic weapon, then the difference is ~9%. So get an ascended weapon. It’s about 80g ish. Ascended trinkets are a must and easily obtainable. Play for 1 month, join a guild, do daily fractals and weekly mission, voila.

Not using food, it’s worse. On top of that there are other issues and ascended armor is the least one should be worried about. For example:

That enchanted combat booster from the gemstore? It’s 5% increase in DPS, Defense and Speed. Talking about pay to win.

I want to come in and give some input concerning the difference between exotic and ascended. As Colin has come out and corrected that Ascended rarity is recommended, but not required.

Now, a lot of misinformation have been floating around concerning the increase in stats of ascended equipment in comparison to exotic. 5%, 10% ? I would like give an approximate difference here.

First of all, I don’t deny that looking at the pieces of armor or weapons or accessories pieces alone, the stat increase of the piece itself is yes around 5-10% difference and for weapon strength ~5% increase, and defense from armor is also about ~5% increase.

What cause the misconception is, that a 10% increase in the piece stat does not equate in 10% increase of overall stats and even more, does not equate to 10% increase in DPS. It is similarly misunderstood for effective health. So here is a spreadsheet I made a while ago showing the comparison in EP (which often scale to direct DPS since it’s a multiplier … condi damage aside, I haven’t calculated it). I don’t claim it to be 100% accurate because traits and stuffs are not taken into account. It’s just a general comparison

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eNgeDoVO9aIqqqYHYTC_IjV0H3eOm7ZL1WNour02cE0/edit#gid=340962016

If you read it, you can see several points that I’ll note here:

1. The infusion difference compare no a non infused character is about 1.98% (Those 3000+ powerful blood yo)

2. The difference between ascended+trinket+weapon to full ascended non infused is about 1.43%. So yes the 400g+ armor set gives you 1.45% increase in dps compare to one without.

3. If you have full ascended and DON’T use food, you’re 2.91% behind one using food. This is where it’s interesting. Compare this to the nonascended armor and use food, you’re actually worse off.

4. The ascended weapon contribute to 5% difference so it’s noted on the 5th column of a 8.71% dps loss if you don’t have an ascended weapon.

5. Other columns are other stats, soldier, valk, celes, etc.

I hope you enjoy the info.

So, what’s the conclusion? I don’t think the 1.43% dps loss is something to fret about. If you really worry, then you should just concentrate on getting ascended trinket (which actually are cheaper than exotic) and the ascended weapons.

Ferocity vs Power ...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Skywing.4836

Skywing.4836

Let P := power, R := precision, F := ferocity, M := major (primary stat), m := minor (secondary stats), u := infusion stat. Set T = M+2m+u.

The stat constraint for equipment is as followed:

  • 0 <= P,R,F <= M+u
  • P+R+F <= T
  • m <= P+R, R+F, P+F <= M+m+u

Where currently as of this build, M = 1382 or (1381), m = 960 (or 961), u = 70. Hope this help.

Exact Precision for 100% crit chance?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Skywing.4836

Skywing.4836

Poor OP, the OP asked for one thing and the three responses keep avoid the question and adds random comments.

Here’s the answer to OP’s question:

The formula for Critical Chance is

Crit Chance = (Precision – 842) / 2100 (according to wiki) and
Crit Chance = (Precision – 822) / 2100 (pre- sep 2014 patch, according to DnT Dekeyz as disputed that the base 4% you see on your hero screen might have been rounded down from 4.47 %) or
Crit Chance = (Precision – 832) / 2100 (post-sep 2014 patch) (since base precision is increased to 926 from 916)

In any case, all you do is calculate the inverse.
So if you believe in the wiki:
1 = (Precision – 842) / 2100 => Precision = 2100+842 = 2942
or if you believe in DeKeyz
1 = (Precision – 822) / 2100 => Precision = 2100+822 = 2922
Or 2932 post sept 2014 patch

Now fury adds a flat 20% crit chance which equates to 420 precisions
So
The necessary precisions to get you up to 80% crit chance is 2522 or 2532.

Some extra info for you. A full ascended assassin set gives you 1087 precisions, and if you run 66xxx builds then expect 300 more precisions, which gives you a total of 926+1087+300 = 2313 which is about 70% crit chance

I am posting on behalf of a guildie and a friend.

The situation is he got scammed in a precursor trade. The deal was he would send his Spark for 1100g & 8 bolts of damask.

He sent first but his recipient never uphold his end of the deal nor returned Spark.

I am posting here with the understanding that trading without using the TP is at users’ own risk. However, my friend said, from the ArenaNet’s response that ArenaNet won’t be doing anything. I also understand that his Spark is lost and there is little to no chance it will be returned.

However, if such scams allow to exist without punishment, I will spread the words so people would know that scamming won’t be dealt with and it is allowed in this game.

Stolen Character Name***

Kicked from a dungeon, how to report people?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Skywing.4836

Skywing.4836

I am proposing a possible solution to this scam exploit. What ArenaNet can do is to create a series (maybe 10) of hidden flags (markers) at random timestamp during the dungeon.

At each timestamp, all present party members would receive a check mark, like an attendance check.

At the end of the dungeon, the system can check if all party members are still in party (not necessarily online since someone can have connection problem). If one party member with more than 5 checks is missing, i.e, not in party anymore, then no token will be handed out to anyone. i.e., no one get tokens.

On top of that display a message to everyone who’s trying to vote kick “If a party member is missing, no one will get reward” before they try to vote.

If a party member left by his or her own will before the end of the dungeon, then all marks for that party member can be cleared, i.e., he / she no longer has any check mark, therefore would not affect everyone’s reward. So that one person can’t grief the entire party by quitting at the end.

Also this system can be enhanced to combat the exploit where a party of 4 might go into the dungeon and clear to the last boss then invite the last member to receive reward for free. To do this: all the system has to do is to check. If a party member with less than 7 marks is present, no one gets reward either.

If you use your email address for guild wars 2 on a different website, the chance is that the hacker already got a grab on your email address i.e, log in. All they need now is a password. They could try different passwords, which result in “unauthorized attempts”. I would recommend you change your email address to log in and a new password.

For me, when they first announced that you could change your email address (~3-5 days before pre-release) I changed all of my accounts name to unique email that I created specifically for guild wars 2 only. When the storm of hacks came, I was able to avoid it.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Skywing.4836

Skywing.4836

You still cannot take reserved name yet despite the promise that they will release the names by the time they resovled all tickets filed on release day.

Let me quote: “After launch day (and after we work through support tickets filed on launch day), we’ll free up the millions of unclaimed names for new Guild Wars 2 players to use.” directly from http://www.arena.net/blog/reserving-your-character-name-for-guild-wars-2

However apparently the word “after” could mean a year, or two after release date.

GaileGray also said that they don’t have a timeframe for release of these names, which implies that currently those names will be reserved indefinitely, i.e., permanently, which is a good thing because I have names that I reserved but haven’t used yet and maybe will use those by the next expansion.

Transmuting Accessories

in Suggestions

Posted by: Skywing.4836

Skywing.4836

Currently we are unable to transmute accessories.

With the 6 extra equipments slots we have 1 amulet, 2 rings, 1 back and 2 accessories. I can think of a reason why ArenaNet call these “Accessories” slots instead of “Earring” slots because not all people (real world and in many cases fantasy characters) wear earrings. Hence we have accessories slots instead of earrings slots.

However, all high end game accessories that you can craft to arrange your stats to fit your build are … earrings.

For what? One would ask, you can’t see it, it doesn’t display on your character. That is true, however, it really break immersion to look at your male hero screen and be amazed at your character and 2 seconds later you glance on the side see 2 pairs of earrings equipped XD (And yes some men today wear earrings but most don’t and neither do knights in the medieval age) . I would be nice if those 2 earrings have been say tokens or emblems we got from karma NPC.

It really does add immersion to the game if the ability to transmute accessories and rings and amulet is added to the game.

=)
