As somebody who doesn’t have any sylvari at max level, I can honesty say I completely support this. Why? Because it adds that much more to the immersion of the game. Its already been established that sylvari are Mordremoth babies, it thus makes complete sense that they’d be able to comprehend the Elder Dragon while others would not. Have we forgotten that a number of sylvari were also driven insane by the aforementioned Elder Dragon’s voice? Wouldn’t that make sense if everybody else just heard a terrifying roar? Really the only two options that make sense in this context are either nobody can understand Mordremoth or only the sylvari can. Again, I absolutely love that this is going to be a feature in the expansion.
10/10 for Anet sticking to its lore.
I agree, I’d prefer to see them sidelined and a return to palling around with Destiny’s Edge throughout the upcoming expansion. Destiny’s Edge still has a lot more to do before I think it’s time to warrant a change in NPC heroes for us to accompany or be accompanied by.
Hurry up and reforge that sword for Logan, Eir.
“NCsoft was firm in its decision to stay away from “Asian” themes and keep it “universal.” ArenaNet had to make adjustments quickly.
This has probably already been mentioned but NCsoft was referring to Divinity’s Reach, not the game as a whole. Originally there was a Canthan district to the city and it was going to be released as part of Divinity’s Reach but beta testers in Asia didn’t like it, they preferred a universal look to the otherwise European inspired city. For that reason, the Canthan district was turned into a giant sink hole to retain the uniform appearance to the city. I believe in the lore the Canthan district existed before getting sucked into the earth. As for why they didn’t rebuild an area for the ethnic Canthans? I have no idea but my head canon would say that a lot of Canthans didn’t make it out of that disaster, not enough to justify rebuilding a district for them.
By the way, NPC chat in the city (I think) also mentions Canthan sailors still washed up on shores throughout Tyria. That means Cantha is still around and we may yet see it in the future.
