Thanks, I will also take to heart what you said about Axe/Torch + Axe/Dagger. I can see where that’s a good combination for a lot of stuff. I sometimes swap torch for offhand dagger anyway, so it makes sense. I’ll add a dagger to the crafting list.

Oops, I should have specified, this is for PVE. I have a dire exotic set I run in WvW, with a trap setup, and it works fine, though I haven’t played much WvW in quite a while now.

My plan is to spend most of my time in the open world, soloing mostly, and HoT events and such. I don’t plan to raid at all ; I’ve raided a ton in other games and it’s just not something I’m interested in right now.

As to the shortbow, I know a lot of people don’t like it much, but I enjoy it, and I feel like I have a pretty good rhythm with it.

I’ve been running around in rabid exotics, and it’s ok, but I’d like a little more, plus the condi duration of viper’s looks good.

I’m looking to make some ascended gear for my Short Bow/Axe+Torch build, and I’m thinking to go with crafting full Viper’s for armor and weapons. Then using Sinister for trinkets (from story rewards, etc.). On paper this looks good to me, but I may be missing something (?).

Is there something else I should be looking at?

I’m also leveling an engineer, and I’m thinking the armor will work well for that character too. 2 birds, one stone and all.

Thanks

Making Hero Points soloable would fix the problem.

This is the simplest and best solution.

I logged on a bit before work today, and twice I got the pop-up window about joining a new map because there aren’t many players around. This is just 3 days into the xpac.

That doesn’t bode well for completing hero challenges with champ mobs guarding them. My concern is that it will become more and more difficult to find people to group with, and some of that content will be out of reach for many players.

I hope they will consider scaling those challenges based on the number of people attempting them. Got a large group? Take on a hard-hitting champ. Going solo? Face a veteran.

Don't qq about solo, get better

So what happens next week or next month or next year, when there’s no one around to group with for the unsoloable champ-level mobs guarding the skill points?

Mr. Chrono, can I put you on my friends list, so I can call on you to come help me with those? I’m sure you’ll be glad to drop whatever you’re doing at the time, right?

Don't understand all these spec complaints...

It cost 400 hero points to fully unlock an elite spec for a single toon. Now imagine, if you have 10 toons; wanna unlock elite specs for all of them? U have to perform each individual hero challenge 10 times over. And many of these hero points challenges require a decently sized group; that would be a serious issue in the near future, when the hype wears off and map becomes dead.

U have to think long term.

Indeed, I want every spec. Getting 9×400 hero points is going to suck.
Especially since most of them can’t even be solo’d.

I agree, especially about the “not-soloable” part. The fact that they put skill acquisition behind group content gates is the worst part of this xpac.

If it isn’t changed to be soloable by this time next week, I’m out for good.

Masteries gated behind grind is fine. Challenging content is fine, it’s awesome, even. Having skills gated behind group content with champ mobs? No. Just no.

I have a feeling that the devs have never tried to complete this content outside of running it with other devs, all of whom know the content inside out. /facepalm
