Keep in mind this guide will only work on a new account! (note the amount of played games!
I have tested a lot of stuff myself and while I regard these points as “given anyway” for any kind of experienced players this method will not work on an old account. Anet has done something to give noobs an easier time in PvP and having a metabuild will automatically lead to this while facing othe noobs.
I was playing around with my 2nd account and thinking about exploiting this, but decided it’s just not worth it.
In fact any high DPS build with decent sustain will do the job with a new account.
After some time with the new system I found three workarounds. While this doesn’t solve the issue itself at all you are able to enjoy to play PvP again using these “solutions”. I encourage Anet to look at this again in order to fix the issue itself!
1. possibility (hard way – no requirements):
Every 10th match or so you get a team that is not complete trash. Use this to your advantage and just “spam” matches like crazy. While doing this play as glassy as possible since the other players probably suck too and you have to kill them faster then they can kill your team. If you get lucky you kill fast enough to rally your “teammates” and manage to gain a precious pip.
If you grind long enough you will get to tier 2. If you are here you have reached your goal and you can log to your prefered metabuild again. In the 2.d tier your teammates are not complete trash and you should have a win/loss ration of about 50% again.
2. possibility (easy way – you need friends, but works best):
Play only with guild mates that know what they are doing. If possible get on TS with them for coordination. This prevents Anet from stacking bad players in your party. Be carefull not to play with 5 premades since you actually get good enemys in that case. Play with 4 teammates. You should be able to carry one noob and this makes sure the other team is still stacked with bad players.
If you manage to get to tier 2, you can continue soloing again.
3. possibility (easy – works solo, but you will not get any rewards):
This possibility works best, but you will loose all your rewards.
The easiest way to fix the matchmaking is create a new account. You will instantly have a winratio of 90%+. The huge disadvantage is that you are not able to transfer rewards away from F2P accounts. Most metabuild will also not be playable without HoT. I only recommend this method if you are absoluty desperate.
Was this changed for some reason? I am pretty sure you didn’t lost pips for loosing 4v5s last season. I just lost a 3v5 along with a pip.
Ty Anet!
Maybe.. just maybe because it is not your lack of skill in that case and you shoudn’t get punished for that?
I just lost a pip for loosing a 3v5 match, wehre 2 players disappeared right after the match started.
Why?
I just continued playing some games, but how the kitten is it possible that I destory every single player in the enemy team while my “teammates” just get farmed one by one?
Scores like 300 50 30… vs 200 190 170…
Seriously, how is this possible?
Dear Anet,
I am sure the MMR on my account is bugged somehow. Can you please investigate this and reset my personal MMR?
The reason why i think something is wrong is, I keep facing teams where the enemy players are way superior and I am the only decent player in my team. Every single fight I don’t help (for example because I have to hold a point), my team manages to loose even 4v3 or even sometimes 4v2. Shouldn’t I get a decent team that can win a 3v2 while I win 2v1 sometimes?
I think the system massively overestimates my skill for some reason and I get paired with extraordinarily bad players against decent ones or get paired with decent players against very very good ones where neither me nor the others have a chance at all.
Below are two screenshots of my recent match results. Note that in between the time, I took these, I testet some other meta classes. I guess I don’t need to mention I lost eery single one of them. My win/loss ratio was about 50% before the latest patch. I think I won exactly 3 out of about 30 games in the last few days.
Can a dev please investigate this and reset my MMR, so I can have fun in PvP again?
Edit: Also interesting is that the matchs I managed to win were pretty strange too. My team managed to have 4 rangers in one while the other team had something that didn’t really do good against 4 druids. So I don’t think my team won for it’s skill, but because of having a “good” counter.

What did you do to the matchmaking algorithm?
For more than two months I’m having fun in PvP again. While doing so I learned that I’m not the very best player out there, but I’m kind of experienced and know how to rotate and how to fight.
During that time my win/loss ratio was about 50%. That sounds and probably is normal and wanted for casual players.
Since the new system launched I can’t win a single game even if I play for my life. I’m playing a Dragonhunter that in theory (metabuild) shoud stand a chance against most other meta classes, except those with a lot of CC/Condition damage. Having said so I get paired with way better players and most of the time I end up with premades and or get absolutely stomped.
I have a hard time believing this is intended behaviour of the matchmaking algorithm and would very much appreciate if one of the devs could have a look into this and fix whatever changes have lead to this problem.
Below a screenshot that sums it up perfectly.
It’s not really an exploit and I doubt you’ll get banned for using this “trick”, but I wouldn’t use it since it really doesn’t seem intended and you would be kitten bad sports doing so.
Please report here if you also suffer from crashes in WvW – specifically in Eternal Battlegrounds and have no issues whatsoever in other parts of the game. (Issue normally occurs playing longer than 2h)
Yesterday, I started playing WvW again and unfortunately I instantly had my first gw2.exe error in ages.
I haven’t had a single crash in weeks while playing PvE/PvP during a playtime of more than 200h. So I’m absolutely sure it is an WvW related issue.
I was playing with about 70 other players, while nearly everybody was kicked out on that evening with at least one gw2.exe error. I didn’t think about asking the others for details, because it was already pretty late, but this issue absolutely needs to be fixed. I can confirm that it occurs on all kinds of different platforms and tend to be worse on “cheaper” GPUs. (GPU memery related issue?)
I remember having the very same issue about a year ago, when I last played WvW. Hasn’t this issue been adressed yet?
Last time, I didn’t really care and thought the issue will be fixed, but obviously I was wrong. This time, I hope Anet can fix the issue for real with the help of some error logs.

Since we should report praticular bad matchs, so Justin can have a look at the details and improve the matchmaking, here are two screenshots of really bad balanced matches.
In both games my team really tried hard so archieve anythiny, but wasn’t able to do so. After all was lost, we tried to zerg the enemy team down and not even that worked. They were obviously wayyyyyy above our league.
I know some players are better than others and I’m far from beeing a very good player, but befere the update, I had pretty good matches and at least had a chance. This is just an example and this has happened pretty often since the last update.
All this happened about 20 minutes ago. I’d be great if you could have a look at these matchups to fix the issue that is causing this.
Edit:
After playing two other matches that were, one decently balanced, I experienced the same thing as before, just on the otehr side. I mean the enemy team was basically cannon fodder, just like I was before.
It wasn’t as bad as before, but like I already mentioned, since the upadte, I have more unbalanced games then ever before.
Idea to improve this:
- Pretty good spread classes – why not put one of each class into every team where every team gets the “better” player of each class and therefore the “worse” of the next class?
- Introduce solo queue, or don’t put solo qued splayers together with predifened groups or even guilds. Most of these games are really, really unbalanced as well. (Happened not that often, but therefore pretty frustrating.)
PS: Since I know posting player names is probematic, I wiped them out, but it was different players each time.

The point that bothers me at this build is the fact that it can be played by a pretty inexperienced player resulting in very “good game play”. Also I remember Anet having said something about too much dodge rolls and spamming it with vigor. In my opinion that’s not balanced at all, so I wanted to throw it out into discussion because Anet is constantly balancing the game and they definately should have a look at this particular build.
By the way, I have tried the build myself and played several hours with it in Solo Queue and as someone having played all classes quite a while I’m pretty sure this one is the best so far and I’d also go as far as saying it is OP. I’m just shocked how easy it is and don’t really like it being THAT easy.
There are of cource some really good builds for every class, but this build is really insane…I mean try it yourself and see… Killing a tanky mesmer is easymode compared to fighting a decend glassy thief running this build. Not even to start talking about soldier gear…
After I played some PVP again, it didn’t tanke me long to come across a new kind of thief build that seems a bit broken in my opinion.
I’m talking about the new famous 10,0,0,30,30 with S/D.
Thiefs playing with this build can barely be hit, because they have nearly perma evade either through using skill 3 or by using a doge roll, which is nearly always ready thanks to the traits and the constant vigor.
In combination with a well traited steal, they can steal up to 3 boon right at the beginning of the fight togehter with the save boons that are applied.
In case they do a wrong move they can use a stun breaker and get back to a save spot with skill 2.
Resetting the fight works well with Withdraw or Shadow Refuge
. For tough opponents you can use the Basilisk Venom.
Sounds like the perfect build, right? A bit too perfect in my opinion.
I think it’s good for better players to be harder to kill, but decent thiefs with this build are nearly impossible to kill in 1v1 situations. I tried it myself and after some practise, you are basically invincible.
I would love to hear your opinions on this build and if you know some way to counter it.
After they took the MF away from the celestial gear, it already lost it’s main value and it was already one of the weaker gears at that time, because it just couldn’t compare with the more specialized builds.
The next change change will basically make it useless for most players, so pls allow us to change to better stats if you really stick with this change Anet!
Aditionally regarding the change itself, I don’t think thats a step into the right direction. I fell like the game is already going down with all the recent changes that annoy a lot of players.
Why did you introduce better gear (Ascended equipment) in the first place, if you just take it away some months later???
Am I supposed to farm for hours to make up with the nerf?
I totally agree with the creator of this topic. If you really want to do livestreams, pls at least try to act a bit professional and don’t just throw a bunch of kids out there that obviously are barely prepared to do the stream.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to force myself watching this s***. Does someone have a summary of the most important changes? Does anything change except the crit. DMG being renamed and reduced by 10%?
Are there plans to allow players to change the really expensive berserker gear to gear that is not being nerfed?

I can confirm this problem. I’ve been having the very same issue. I had no crashes at all while playing PvE, but it crashed 3-4 times playing WvW. This is expecially stupid in times of long queues.
I’m using Windows 7 64Bit with the latest Updates und the lastes drivers installed.

Looking at the changelog, my first guess would be that one of the files is corrupt, in case that doesn’t help, I can’t help you either, but this is definately not normal. The game should at least be able to run for about an hour without crashing.
I just want to mention that my system has never caused a single problem in any other game except Guild Wars 2. I’m still experiencing these errors frequently and I’m going to search for a right topic or open a new one because it’s obviously not a Windows 8 related problem.
Sry, I forgot to mention I’m using Windows 7 with the latest updates installed. Aditionally I’m only expericencing these crashes in WvW, independend from the used character. Earlier, I had the crash after only 3min of WvW whereas I was able to play nearly 10hours PvE at Sunday.
I want to note that I’m constantly getting a very similar error using a supported configuration. There seems to be something wrong with some specific configurations.
Here’s my error message:

General concerns and thoughts
I want to throw into the discussion round my concerns about extreme changes to some basic features of any class. I really don’t like the idea that the playstyle of a ceratin calss becomes impossible. I rather want to encurage you guys to change some of the really weak features of traits that are barely any use at all or play around with the base damage, heal or what so ever in order to get the balancing how it is supposed to be.
Elementalist
In particular I’m refering to the ele. I think the typical D/D ele is fine as it is, just like the Z/D ele. In my opinion they are the definition of balanced. The staff ele really needs to be looked at as well as the fire, air and earth traits. I think you are already going to the right direction there. As far as I understand everything, you don’t want to chnage the current builds, you just want to create new good ones and that’s the way to go. In case you think a particular ability especialy at the water and arcane trait is OP, just try to lower the effect slightly and it should be fine, but imo they are totally OK at the moment – at least I don’t have any problems fighting other eles with an ingie, warrior, some mesmer builds, some ranger builds and a nearly every thief (also depending on the build).
Warrior
There it becomes realy difficult, because some builds are a bit OP where others are just fine. I can only hope, you guys find a way to not completely change the way warriors have to be played. I once again encourage you to think about lowering the base damage of the OP traits/weapons slightly rather than changing a lot.
Mesmer
My biggest wish for PVE and WvW would be to disable the opponent’s ability of just hitting tab until he finds the person with the most buffs and about the same life as before to get to him and smash him away. Imo this destroys the whole use of illusions and makes it really difficult or even impossible to fight good opponents.
Ranger
My only wish here is that you keep in mind that this is by design rather a range class than a melee monster. So please try to not force people to make one out of them.
Conclusion
Please keep the extreme changes as low as possible and rather play a bit with the base values of the abilities, because right now we have a game that does really a lot of fun, what you can see at the forum. In order to get the players to care enough to post that many messages, they really need to like the game. So please don’t change that much and stay a bit conservative.
Just in case anybody wants to know how I solved the problem…. I just didn’t. I disabled crossfire for GW2 temporarily since it just doesn’t show any advantages for me. It’s a hotfix so I don’t have more problems than I ablolutely need, but it’s really a pity.
I just upgraded my PC and I’m wondering why not even one component of my PC is under 100% load while I’m getting about 10FPS and the game is on the borderline to unplayable. This always happens when a lot of people are around. I’m getting more than enough frames if there aren’t many players.
The upgrade to crossfire made the problem even worse since the 9-10FPS I’m getting now feel even worse than the 7-8FPS I was getting before. The microshuttering really does it’s job here.
Is it because of poor crossfire support or does GW2 only use 2 CPU cores? Is it possible to to run the game smoothly with more than 30 players around? (In case the answer is yes, which hardware are you using?)
Does anybody have any ideas how to improve the performance?
The newest drivers are installed and other games like Crysis 3 are running smootly and don’t cause any problems.
A screenshot of the strange CPU/GPU usage is in the attatchments.
Hardware:
- Intel i5 2500K @4.6GHz
- 2xHD7950
- 16GB RAM
- running on SSD
- WvW:
WVW is by far my most favorite game mode that imo distinguished GW2 from other MMORPG games. At the time it was introduced, there wasn’t something like this with this many players and this kind of atmosphere, at least nothing that I played before.
I know Anet says WVW isn’t a fair game mode. I also don’t want to start a conversation about its balancing here. I just noticed some really concerning developments in my most favorite mode of the game and I wanted to point them out.
One serious problem in WvW is that a group of casual players with average equipment don’t stand a chance against a group half as big filled with serious hardcore gamers. There are a few – I use to call them “elite guilds” which practically dominate WvW. On most servers there’s also some sort of main zerg where some players without a WvW guild and some casual players meet at a TS Server and walk around together, but here you can see what I am complaining about in the part above. These groups are getting worse and worse while the “elite guild groups” are getting better and better. Along with this development, a lot of WvW players just stop playing WvW or they completely move on to another game. This leads to weaker groups of casual players which again drives more of them away.
One of the reasons why there are that many people leaving WvW is that you need a good group of people in order to face one or two good players. It happened to us several times that a single thief was able to disband a group of about 8 players, just by waiting till someone falls behind, then killing him with 2-3 backstabs and finishing him invisible. I know which build these people are using and I don’t really consider it what I call fair, but I accepted it. What makes this as terrible as I say is the fact that this one build I’m referring to is heavily benefitting from the better gear while casual players basically stay where they are. There are some other classes and builds that heavily profit from the new stat points, but thieves are probably the most known example of what I mean.
-PvP:
Like in every game that exists for a long time PvP is getting harder and harder, it’s really difficult to keep up with a good player that was thinking about its build for days and a player that just read a tutorial or is playing how he thinks it’s good. As far as I know there’s no possibility of getting a group with players of the same rank that are about as good as you. I don’t know what they changed here, but I noticed massive imbalance between the two teams recently and it happens more and more often to me that guilds try to get to the same team and the “noob team” is stuck with not that good players that leave the game after they realize it’s not working out that well.
Conclusion/Question:
After all, I have to ask myself whether GW2 is still worth my time, or if I should move on to another game. I really like GW2, otherwise I wouldn’t write a huge post of what is bugging me right now in order to convince the developers to take care of the problem. What do you think about the recent changes? Do you also think Anet should “rescue” the few casual players they have left?
Is GW2 shifting its target group? from casual gamers to hardcore gamers?
One of the most important reasons why I and most of my friends bought this game, is that we thought it was a game not specifically designed for hardcore gamers, but also for casual gamers, that play the game only at the weekend or sometimes after we come home from work. But the recent development of the game makes it nearly impossible for casual players to “keep up” with the other players. I’m going to list a few points that heavily disadvantage casual players in my opinion, hoping to call some attention to the problem. There are a lot of changes that discourage casual gamers:
- Introduction of the ascended gear:
It all started with the fractals which lead to the first ascended equipment available in the game. This first equipment was only available for players that play the fractals quite often. In my opinion too often, because searching for a group in your level became harder and harder the following weeks. I know they fixed part of the problem, but then came the rest of the gear. Assuming, you still hadn’t been able to get to fractals level 10, you got a new possibility of getting the ascended gear, dailies. This – again – kind of solved the problem for players with only one character, so they were at least able to get the best possible equip on one character in about half a year playtime. (I know it’s possible to get it faster, but it’s really hard to do so. I just don’t have time to do them every day.) Let’s not even talk about the stuff you need guild points for and the problems involved with it regarding smaller guilds. Just some days ago, I was able to get the rest of my ascendant gear, even though I’ve been playing this game since it was released. I am still missing the overpriced back piece though.
Yesterday a new patch introduced yet another set of ascended gear. This time it’s getting really ridiculous. You need more than 100Gold to level one profession up to 500 before you can see which resources you need for the gear. I don’t even want to think about the next update that introduces the rest of the stuff.
All this in a game where the developers said there won’t be an item progression system so all players are equally equipped and it’s a skill based game.
I’m really getting tired of trying to get the best equipment in order to keep up with other players, just to realize by now my stuff is outdated once again. Why do I even want to keep up with the other players you might ask? See the point below.
I just run a dungeon with a friend and three random people after searching for about one hour. As you might imagine we didn’t tell the last guy, we don’t want him, because he was guardian (we alrady had 2 other guardians).
So we startetd the dungeon and it took about 2 hours and many deaths to complete it. I know that might have been bad luck, since you can also be lucky, get some good players and do it without dieing once in less than half of the time.
What I’m driving at is the necessarity of good (maybe even a bit overpowered) skills. We don’t need another nerf, the game is already hard enough for casual players. I love this game, but I just don’t have time to get new ascended stuff, or at least it’ll take months.
I get more and more the feeling, we really need the new items to get around in this hard and crucial word of Guild Wars 2, but as people start to get these items, they begin to get overpowered and have to get nerfed againt. So it leads to a vicious circle that’s very dangerours for us endangered casual players.
No,
I’m already against the new items, because they totally screw up the balance in WvW by pushing the already (mostly) good hardcore gamers and discriminating the casual games even more.
Thx, for not forcing us to do fractals where you have to find a group of random people that barely work together or wait for hours.
On the other hand I’m not a big fan of the dungeons either. So I’d love to see some possibilities to choose from, as many already ointed out.
I have to admit, I’m also a bit worried about the upcoming changes. I have been playing many different classes now and all together the balancing between all of them isn’t that bad at all, but I’m afraid some classes are goining to have some serious problems in case of an AOE nerf.
Some class specific problems that I have to think about when reading this thread:
- Ele is going to have some serious disadvantages – at least with the staff equipped, since the staff is already borderline to useless and everybody uses D/D builds, the time you need to summon the fire aoe (staff – skill 5) without being killed in a serious fight
- Necro is affected even more, I personally won’t play it anymore when the change is too intense
- Ragnger – won’t be affected as much, but it’s very hard for him to survive in Orr or other high level areas anyway
- Thief – won’t give a s***, cause he’s stealthing throug enemies, spamming heardseeker 2-3 times to down the enemy, finish him invisible, run a few secounds and repead the procedure without any nerfed aoes
- Guardien – all classes that have to stand in front of the enemie are dependend on a strong attack and aoe is the only effective possibility aganinst invisible enemies in PvP, but he is probably only experiencing disadvantages in PvE while farming, except for the invisible enemy problem
Some possible consquences the Devs should be aware of:
- After the nerf, Thiefes are probably the class you want to chose for PvP/WvW since they are even harder to kill after an AOE nerf, because that was the only possibility aganinst stealthed thiefes.
Mesmers are also going to benefit from this change.
So the next step would be nerfing these classes what might lead to some other balancing issues.
- Please notice that some players don’t want to play in 50+ Zergs and it’s already hard enough to find players that want do do something with you at certain times. So the game is going to be even harder when playing alone and thus more frustrating.
- Groups of less people are supposed to win against more people when the group with more people is just as stupid, to run thoug a wall out of AOE with barriers inside!
So I’m afraid you could decrease the tactical feature in the game. I really liked being able to deal with bigger groups through well planed and coordinated gameplay.
- I don’t care that when I’m following a huge group of players, we can wipe when we play bad. Please don’t let the game go towards the direction taht the player’s abilities won’t matter as much since every attack hites only 2 or 3 people and it doesn’t matter anymore what attack you use.
A much bigger balancing problem I see in WvW is the huge difference between Exo-Equip and the new better stuff. I don’t remember it’s name. But the players that are better anyway are pushed even more, so I as casual gamer, (even trough I have been with GW2 since release) doesn’t stand a chance because I would need months or just more friends willing to do fractals to farm Equip so I’m on the same level as the hardcore gamers and stand a chance against them again.
