As someone who upgraded recently, my experience with customer support has been less than ideal. I would put in a ticket and see what they say. I hope your situation works out better for you than mine did for me. (Minus 500g).
Update:
So I finally have some freedom in the game. I’ve listed a lot of my low level armor drops on the AH and have sold quite a few things. Customer support finally responded to my ticket and told me that that there is no way to return the gold. They can wrongfully take it but not rightfully put it back? LOL. Ok. My buddy told me to let him know if I need crafting mats, bags etc and he would just send them to me. Hopefully a GM doesn’t take that too. At least I don’t feel like a free to play player anymore.
You can try each Profession in The Silverwastes with the L80 Boost before permanently deciding which to Boost.
Good luck.
This is good to know. I’m in the same boat. Before I upgraded to HOT a few days ago. I must have created every profession several times and leveled them to 10 and deleted to start another (only had 2 slots as F2P). Decisions, decisions….

New accounts have time-gated, and other, limitations to discourage RMT. It’s just a matter of playing/waiting. Here’s some information on limitations: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Account#Limitations
As for the Gold, you can contact the CS Team via the ‘Support’ link above/below and ‘Submit a Ticket’ for assistance. A new account suddenly acquiring 500 Gold through the mail likely triggered a flag. Though, if your friend somehow got hold of RMT Gold, and passed it on to you, you won’t get it returned. If the Gold is legitimate, there should be no problems getting it returned.
Welcome to Tyria, and good luck.
Hey! Yeah I’ve put in a support ticket with no response so far. The gold is legitimate as far as I know. You do make a good point about my friend passing on “bad” gold. I didn’t think about that. It’s been a week since I created the account and 2 days since I upgraded to HOT. Despite all of this happening, I still very much want to dive all in and play.
It would be nice if I could at least upgrade my bank space. I can’t even do that for another 3 days it’s telling me in game. I’m going to miss out on a lot of items. So I’d rather not play and just wait for the 3 days to pass. One thing I’ve learned throughout my time playing MMO’s/MMORPG’s is to never underestimate the value of items. I could end up destroying something that could sell for a nice amount on the TP.
Thank you for your kind words and help! I hope I meet players like you in-game.
Hello to all,
I’m a new Guild Wars 2 player but no means am I new to MMO’s/MMORPG’s. I’ve been playing these types of games for well over 10 years. I recently started looking for a “new home” since the game I have loved so much (*cough WoW) has been on a steady decline. I gave a few of the other big names a try and they weren’t too bad. Then I decided to give GW2 a try since I know a few people who play who recommended it to me and with the F2P setup, why not? I downloaded it last Sunday evening and got started. I absolutely loved it.
On Saturday, I decided I was ready for the full game experience and wanted to experience all that Tyria had to offer so I purchased HOT. This is the point where my game experience began to take a turn for the worse. After spending $50 on the xpack, I didn’t expect to be spoon fed bits and pieces of the full game experience. I currently have over 30 hours played in 6 days. I never got a character past level 11 because I’ve been going back and forth between professions and races trying to decide which I really want dive into and use my level 80 character boost on.
One of my friends offered to send me some gold to help me get started. It’s the least he could do since I set him up with a nice care package when he first started WoW. :p Anyway, he said that the max gold that he could send was 500g because there was a limit. Ok no problem. Upon receipt of the gold, my account was suspended, flagged as purchasing gold and the gold was removed.
So far, I’ve been accused of purchasing gold(I’d know if my buddy was a “gold seller”), I can’t use the trading post to sell things that have filled up my bank slots, can’t currency exchange gems/gold and several other limitations. Why do I still like I’m on a free to play account?
At this point the excitement I had to play this game has been greatly diminished. It seems buying HOT and upgrading was a mistake for me. I would love to have access to all of the game options, and have the gold return that was wrongfully taken. What can be done to rectify the situation so I don’t feel like I wasted money upgrading?
