Hello all! With EotM coming out tomorrow and the possibility of new folks coming into WvW, I thought it would be a good time to compile a list of less commonly offered tips for new players. These would be the little things that aren’t immediately obvious to newcomers, so not just “follow your commanders” or “stand in the circle to cap”. If the thread grows sufficiently large, I’ll try to compile a list in this post.

To start, two of mine:

1. Not sure where to spend your WvW rank points? Perhaps the most generally useful is the supply mastery line. Get it up to rank 4, as at that point you will occasionally get free supply back when spending it, which can make a large difference for a supply strapped force.

2. Sitting on a trebuchet or a catapult and not sure where to aim? If you can (and not otherwise directed by a commander) try to hit a spot that will damage multiple walls with one shot. The enemy will have to spend more supply to repair the damage, making it both easier to wear the walls down through attrition and deny them useful supply for other tasks.

3. If you see single enemy bowing to you, he’s probably looking to find a 1v1 fight! Whether or not you accept of course is up to you, feel free to kill him to your hearts content, but I have had several people ask why a single enemy would run up to a group of 10 or more people bowing

4. If you find yourself falling off the world frequently, you may want to slot a stability skill.

5. I think getting to Applied Fortitude is the best use of WvW levels and the first place a player should focus. There are some rare exceptions but IMO make a direct line to that ability. Applied Strength is my recommended second line.

6. Food and other Consumables… figure out what is best for your class/build and use it. If you need something cheap, Mango Pies work for almost every build and are dirt cheap.

7. Traveller runes make you move faster in Seige Golem , you can dodge inside a golem to get a bit of speed boost (Rune of Speed also does the same thing)

8. Every keep and tower you go in or through try to spot the siege. Press F to man it just for a second te refresh the counter back to an hour.

9. Your nametag is roughly 3-4x as wide as your character so no, you’re not hiding behind a tree. Or a rock. Or well. Or a house.

10. If a friendly keep is contested, and you aren’t doing anything terribly important at the time, equip a greatsword and sword/warhorn, and high tail it to that keep. You’re the fastest class in the game, and you have the ability to provide intel, or stay alive long enough to banner the keep lord if the worst happens. Make sure to use any arrow carts or trebs to try and destroy their rams if you can. It is your duty as young, healthy, overpowered warrior to either buy enough time to save the keep, or die with the circle up and your banner on recharge.

Protip 2.0

For best results in this endeavor, wait until the inner gate is down, hide in the back of the lord’s room until he dies. Make sure you’ve equip Dolyak Signet, Endure Pain, and Berserker Stance. Use them in reverse order, with your stability being popped as you cast banner to avoid rupts. Die laughing as your zerg shows up, wipes the interlopers, and rezzes you to many bags (it should be implied you used gs 3 to get in the middle of the circle, simultaneously tagging everyone and avoiding damages,) or waypoint with solumn joy, knowing you caused the enemy blob a few seconds of trouble.

11. your professions Fall Trait is worth equipping as it helps moving around that map quicker and jump of walls when attacking enemy’s at the gate.

12. If you are the first guy dead every time we run into the enemy you need to change your build

13. If you are dead and there is any question about who will win the fight respawn and get your tail back into the fight.
